Be rock listener

Think jazz sucks because all the rock critics dipping their toe into jazz recommend Bitches Brew as the GOAT jazz album

Listen to other albums

Realise jazz is actually good and Bitches Brew isn’t even the GOAT Miles Davis album, closer to the WOAT

Why do Fantano types dickride this album so much?

They love black cock

listened to this album maybe like 6 or 7 times and hated it each time.
listened to 'on the corner' once and thought it was bretty gud but never bothered getting all that into him because of how much i didn't like bitches brew

It's Jazz for people with low attention spans

Why do Fantano types dickride this album so much?

It strikes the balance of accessibility, influence and the avant-garde that appeals to rock critics. It's also iconic, it represents the whole of Miles' fusion era and it's influence of rock music.

I think that describes stuff like Giant Steps, Time Out and The Shape of Jazz to Come more accurately.

mental illness
if you enjoy this trash your brain is fucked

that accurately describes none of them u silly sausage

No, it describes a large portion of Coleman's work. I say that because free jazz is the only jazz I keep coming back to.

Actually good gateway jazz albums for non-jazz listeners

A Love Supreme

The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady

Underground

Headhunters

In what fucking world is Bitches Brew accessible?

It has electric guitar in it o algo

t. normie pleb

20 favorite albums. Now.

Only noobies have favourite albums

Because it's good.

Because they don't bother making it past the tip of the iceberg

Is it though?

In what fucking world is Bitches Brew accessible?

It is obviously not a mid recording tailored to the layman as Kendrick Lamar o Britney Spears but if a normie pay a little attention:
The melodies are really catchy.
It's gimmicky full of sounds and effects.
It doesn't have an immediate verse, chorus scheme but the chord progression is always enjoyable.

Bitches Brew is amazing but I prefer In A Silent Way.

It's gimmicky full of sounds and effects.

In my experience normies fucking hate this, it’s too gimmicky and they rarely get what he’s going for, if they make it long enough to the barking dogs bit near the end most would presume it’s some kind of joke.

It doesn't have an immediate verse, chorus scheme but the chord progression is always enjoyable.

This style of listening is something normies need a minute to get to grips with, it’s probably the main reason most jazzheads in 2025 are people that play music. And there’s way better jazz albums for getting normies into following the progressions than this one, in large part because of the weird gimmicks and the fact the opening track is extremely long and the most inaccessible on the album by far.
I don’t think it’s actually that accessible. Christgau just sucked it off because it legitimised rock as serious artistic business and a generation of other rock critics followed him on that. Otherwise it’s near a TMR tier meme album.

1. Miles was a fucking idiot that never rocked and never bopped. Ballads were his field.
2. Most of the people who listen to music (especially jazz) and don't play are just pretending to understand.

Do the math and you got the reason for why many of the most hideous albums are top rated.

In a Silent Way is more influential while also being far more accessible and soothing

what are some other overated non-miles jazz albums in your mind?

Fantanites won't tell you about this

This and picrel. Also Jaco Pastorius without weather report. Needless to say everything from Frank Zappa and steely dan. The true kings of fusion are Chick Corea, Michael Brecker and Allan Holdsworth. Honorary mention to Bill Frisell who took fusion to a whole new level.

nah but headhunters is such an easy listen and its not really a bad album. making super accessible music like that, that also doesnt suck is kinda impressive imho. hes like consistently able to create musical trends or atleast stay ahead of them and incorporate new tech into his music, he just knew what would work and put that shit out.

There's a lot of better records than Headhunters, and accesible too. Hell, Stevie Wonder and Quincy Jones did it a lot better than Herbie. Some has to say that Herbie is no creative genius. He's a very proficient jazz pianist at best. When he's contained by strong people like Wayne Shorter or even that faggot Miles, Herbie is at his best. When unleashed he's completely aimless. No wonder hacks like Jacob Collier immediately stick to him.

a mid recording

He was Miles ahead og the time

When did you realize "It Don't Mean a Thing (If It Ain't Got That Swing)"

he was good Tim

Respect due to you for being the first person to post a Japanese album in this thread. I don't think a full conversation can be had without at least considering the international contributions to the genre. While we're here you all should recommend me music. I like Masayoshi Takanaka and Lonnie Liston Smith. I have been on a major PRISM (the Japanese one) kick recently as well.

Depends on what you start with. Bitches Brew was the first jazz album I listened to so it sounds accessible to me.

i like miles davis and john coltrane and a few others, the other day my dad sent me "jazz" artist that his boss recced to him and it was the most cringe smooth modern white boy jazz you'll ever hear, so I tell my dad (who doesn't care for jazz at all) that its the pinnacle of bad jazz and then he goes and tells his boss what I said like I'm some kind of intelligence on the subject and suddenly my dad is like back and forthing between me and his boss and all I'm saying at this point is ehh I kinda prefer jazz thats more "free" or fusiony. The way he made his boss sound was like he was an old boomer that just got crushed by the younger generation

post the smooth modern white boy jazz

Not music

black people make better music than wignats do. I'd rather listen to jazz or blues as opposed to speedcore touhou mixes, nsbm or incelcore.
