Why is RYM so unpopular? The most popular album on the site, OK Computer, only has 116k ratings. Even the 1000th most popular anime on MyAnimeList has significantly more ratings than that despite music having a way wider audience than anime. Now that I think about it, RYM has had even less of an influence on the musical zeitgeist than Anon Babble, a board of a few thousand autists. Even sites like Pitchfork run by a few people or individual critics like Fantano are more culturally relevant than RYM. It's a nonentity.
Why is RYM so unpopular? The most popular album on the site, OK Computer, only has 116k ratings...
go to RYM
highest rated album isn't even music
close site and never return
albums are for autists
normal people don't care about listening to full albums
overrun by insane trannies who only rate albums by virtue signalling and not listening to the actual music. Any wrongthink is immediately banned by the jannies
That pretty much sums it up. Still I like the functionality of the site I use it every day
No joke, if you have a different opinion than the admins (whether they're sane or not is irrelevant to the point, though they most evidently are not), you get warned, and eventually permanently banned, for "trolling". I've done the experiment. First time around I admit I overdid it, yet by the second time I was simply sharing my honest thoughts and writing more in-depth reviews and comments than 99% of their userbase could ever come up with, and they didn't appreciate that, either. Only children and posers are allowed to use the site, and none of them listen nor discuss music for the right purposes. A ridiculous, sad hub of patheticism.
Its purpose is very niche and its interface is going to be unattractive for a lot of potential users.
It's not a very useful recordkeeping tool for your listening since you have to get everything in manually so if you want to keep track of your listening then scrobbling is going to work better.
It's not a useful catalog since it's not at all complete and doesn't hyperlink itself fully, can't search by specific credit or label etc. So the meganerds and collectors are much better off with discogs.
The site itself doesn't specialize or properly editorialize so it's not going to be a useful exposure tool like a dedicated niche database or such could be. Especially since, as a user-generated database, it's going to reflect its own userbase which again, isn't autistic discogs turbonerd manually inputting barcode numbers.
It's not a useful social tool either as its functionalities in that regard are barebones to put it nicely.
It tries to do everything and is not very good at any one of its several functions.
this is the real answer. most people only listen to individual songs and dont have the time nor the autism to listen to full albums
Instead of being a neutral zone for discussing and reviewing music; it's turned into what every review forum turns into when they attribute a 'score' to a piece of music. People wanna see bigger numbers and they want their thing to top charts and have 'good' scores whether they are good or not. Doesn't matter because the score is a non-thing it eventually devolves into a moral criticism or approval of the artist. Music writing/video essays are valid, but only if they refuse to score because you have to actually interrogate what the critic is saying. A score is just a cheap way out of actually saying anything. Watch any of Fantano's modern 'reviews'. He just uses adjectives to describes sounds, gives a short history lesson of the climate the album comes out in then drops an arbitrary score. Even he's bought into his own bullshit by silently indicating and joking with his audience with his flannel color choice. We should abolish all scores from album reviews.
The trends and samey lists speak for themselves at this point. Catered to very specific subset as well. I was always more of a sputnik music guy
What's the travistan of RYM
Can't you get banned by rating an album 1 star, as its considered trolling despite them having a 1-5 system lmao
Esp. if it's an album they use for virtue-signaling or that reaffirms the braindead political viewpoint of the admins, such as kendshit fagmar's tpab.
samefagging won't make you a woman
There is always that on Anon Babble tourist in every thread who is paranoid about everyone being trans or Indian. Go back
Your proposal is worth considering, but dismissable since it would fail to indicate what is and isn't valuable enough to engage with.
Zoomers ruin everything they touch. They dont create, they only subvert what is already there. Even gen alpha created more than them.
that on Anon Babble tourist
Anyway, this way of thinking is hilarious to me because it means you not only gained a superiority complex from being the only individual you personally know who listens to full albums, but also happened to be autistic enough to invent a worldview based on your superiority complex and inverted it to prove how "normal" you are to people who will never care, all while not even talking to enough people in the real world to know what that word might mean.
My sister's taste in music is unironically the entire Spotify top 10 and I, a real sperg, asked her once if she listens to albums "the entire way through", I just kept specifying what I meant and she kept looking at me weird and acting like the answer is obviously yes because that's something "everyone" does.
trannies
are you saying RYM is less popular now than 10 years ago when George Soros invented trannies?
Your sister is a zoomer, she does not deserve a opinion on music, or any culture. Zoomers are anti human and need to be killed on mass. Kill your sister if she was born after 1997 and before 2012. Do it. NOW.
This
Same reason letterbox sucked
I can give a 3 out of 5 to chicken run or good kid maad city and some loser will be having a period on my notos. No thanks bro
Pitchfork
twice less traffic than RYM
Fantano
he's gaining 10k subscribers a month, RYM are gaining 15k
When did this happen and why is it so extremely prevalent on rym specifically? Even letterboxd has actual women on it every now and then.
actual women
trannies
critics
Either way you split it they're annoying af. Women don't make it any better in fact letterbox wenches are annoying as hell. It's just the culture of those platforms. It's more about logging and wearing music n movies as a fashion than actually enjoying what you listen to.
what about black men? are you ok with them using RYM or Letterboxd?
anon what
we all know most people don't listen to albums all the way through the same way people on Anon Babble know most people aren't familiar with most of the best films and that the things we care about are absolutely not normal. if it were normal, Animal Collective would be a household name when I think literally everyone here would agree that they aren't as even Anon Babble is increasingly trafficked by normies who are offended at the idea that music that's either not popular or not rock music is good
Even the 1000th most popular anime on MyAnimeList has significantly more ratings than 116K
#1000 is 凡人修仙传 第四季 [Fanren Xiu Xian Chuan 4th Season] (A Record of Mortal's Journey to Immortality Season 4), which has been rated by 189 users
dumb frogposter
using a music rating site
why is everyone obsessed with tracking every part of their media consumption
fact checking patriot
2020 was 10 years ago
welp
Boredom and a need for attention
Because I enjoy it
Do you remember every album you ever listened to and every film you wetched?
You were probably being racist
trannies were invented 5 years ago
incorrect
For me, some of my personal projects were mislabeled and when I tried to fix it or contact someone with the site, I was ignored and then met with hostility and tard rage. So fuck their imaginary site with made up rules and made up pages.
ZDS moment
2013-19 Zoomers are safe?
OP is pointing out how strangely few people do this
