Why is every artist featured here entirely forgotten now
Why is every artist featured here entirely forgotten now
Certainly not Sonic Youth, Dino Jr and Fugazi
People no longer require independent music by cis white males.
Beat Happening and Big Black are both grear bands that have been talked about extensively on Anon Babble
I checked Spotify plays because I was curious how big a fag OP is being, and Beat Happening had the least of any band in the book.
why does time pass and why do old things get forgotten
mudhoney chapter is just a fucking ad for sub pop records
other than that, bretty good book
Thurston Moore wanting to take credit for everything that happened with Nirvana is also hilarious
i like thinking about this type of thing, that book is a relic, a moment in time that is gone now, its way outdated.
I like thinking about how 20 years ago how different pop culture was, like mainstream was britney and christina and boy bands.
i cant wait till garbage like billie ellish is irrelevant
now
the whole Burma chapter is pretty much about how they were forgotten even back then
the mudhoney chapter was one of the best of the book. legendary rock band. also butthole surfers
his Nirvana book is also great, but OBCBYL takes the cake
Husker Du is great and has aged the best out of all of them.
I love Mudhoney, but it revolved too much on the label rather than the band itself.
Minutemen, Replacements and Surfers had the best chapters.
Despite that, I think the most boring chapter was the Dinosaur Jr one.
They basically wrote great pop tunes, but just recorded them with heavy distortion in a wet cardboard box in Minnesota. You could probably do breathy female acoustic covers of their songs and they wouldn’t stand out on a coffee shop playlist.
Spotify streams are a poor measure of whether a band has been forgotten, because the sample is skewed with a pleb bias
Nah beat happening is obscure and esoteric. Nothing wrong with that.
greg ginn, j. mascis, bob mould are assholes
thurston moore has delusions of grandeur
calvin johnson probably leads a cult
rest seemed cool
That's why I like them anon. Pop songs about universal subject matter stand the test of time better than singing about Ronald Reagan and political bullshit.
I saw Calvin Johnson live once, and he was spooky charismatic. If he'd told the audience to kill, we would've.
entirely forgotten
We got this kino release not too long ago
People no longer require independent music by cis white males.
husker du
cis
beat happening has not been talked about extensively on Anon Babble
their production aged like milk.
has aged the best out of all of them
not even the best Minnesota band in that book
do Americans remember all of those bands like Mudhoney, Replacements and so on? Alternative music is incredibly niche here in Europe. Even genuine Nirvana fans are quite rare (apart from the popular t-shirt)
No. Metalheads are probably the only ones that keep track on classic acts.
Nah bands that are remembered by tons of average Americans in that general alt vein
STP
AiC
Jane’s addiction
bush
everclear
tool
rollins band
live
filter
juliana Hatfield
faith no more
Could be wrong but royal trux, ride, mercury rev, Lisa Germano would all be obscure to most
One of the reasons why the book was made is that so people won't forget the bands that "built" the indie scene that eventually led to the success of Nirvana.
They were niche even in their heyday, with The Replacements probably being the closest to mainstream appeal.
Their production is unironically what gives them a unique sound and sets them apart from the other generic hardcore of the time.
What sort of elite level production are people expecting from diy punk label
Yeah I think all of my'veteran' friends are metalheads
Yeah, why does that happen?
have you heard wipers is this real?

They are forgotten now. Overhyped music scene
Read this
Find out a suspicious amount of artists in this scene had rich parents/trust funds
I was there, and I've already forgotten them.
lmao, they should call it Weird Scenes in Williamsburg
This unfortunately. Still great but really sucks it'll never be what it should sound like
This was definitely one of the first cases where the scene was entirely manufactured
We perfected indie rock. You guys were busy perfecting electronic
I came across a normie into this.
