Just make more notes lol
Lmao who gives a shit?
probably been done before
I guess that means it isn't worth doing.
It's a good starting point. Once you get a grasp on it you can continue onto more complicated structures.

It’s not possible to do anything else
micro-tones
Those are just 12 notes that are slightly flat or sharp
The universe literally only has 12 notes
and people argue this is the best art form?
No? Cinema is because it's the culmination of all art forms: painting (matte), sculpture (props), architecture (sets), writing, photography, dancing (choreography, including fighting) and music.
Actually video games are because of the addition of interactivity. Ebert was filtered.
We need to standardize on 72 notes per octave.
Wrong. The most "natural" music is music based on the harmonic series. You can't even sing barbershop with only 12 notes per octave, because the defining sound of the genre is the harmonic seventh chord. 12 notes is only good enough for approximations of ratios up to the 5th harmonic. Dividing the octave into 36 unlocks the 7th harmonic and barbershop chords (very natural and traditional sound that's not at all weird). Dividing it into 72 unlocks the 11th harmonic and neutral chords (also a natural and traditional sound, although unlike barbershop chords it sounds foreign to most Western listeners). You don't need to go higher than 11th harmonic because the rest just sounds weird and dissonant and you have plenty of weird and dissonant intervals already.
And if this isn't enough, tuned percussion (e.g. gamelan) gives you inharmonic timbres and a whole new set of tunings to work with.
only 12 colors
all good brushes have been taken
portraits aren't complicated, ti's just faces
and people argue this is the best art form?
i feel bad for movie buffs who never played vidya, i feel like they're missing out
music is a much more rigid system than painting on a canvas, there's a lot less variety and you know it
i invent new colors when i play death metal every blast beat creates new colors
if you limit yourself then it's indeed a rigid system
Music hasall been discovered. Every melody made atop every chord structure. The final frontier was synthesizer sound design and that's over too. Music is a corpse. Like every other art form destroyed including video games and movies, it was the internet that killed them by allowing every single person to make their own art freely with no QC
The most "natural" music as you describe it is impossible to sing without pitch drift or play on an instrument and is as such completely useless for actual performance and recording
Dividing it into 72
good luck on designing instruments with 72 notes per octave lol. i love microtonal music but creatives rarely think of the practical consequences. Every instrument would have to have as many buttons as an organ. How would you even notate it? Can you even sing it with any accuracy? 12TET has been the standard for a reason, it strikes a nice balance between intervals and practicality.
In fact 12TET has been the standard for so long that most normal people even perceive the perfect major third or the perfect b7 as sounding "off". There's not a magic detector in your eardrums that inherently knows when an interval is in tune, the perception complexes in your brain determine it for a large part and people are too used to how 12TET sounds.
Octaves aren't the same note, the frequency is just doubled up, which is like saying 1 is the same as 2. So right away you're a completely talentless hack, as is everyone else here. But we already knew that.
Videogames are trite for manchildren and babies
Literally just posts outing themselves for having no soul.
Music is not good because you have an "original idea", it's about how you execute this idea. It's funny you mention Jazz when it's a perfect example of that as it's a genre which for a huge period was about reinterpreting existing melodies.

Music has never been about writing this special original melody that nobody else ever wrote, that idea only exists now in this copyright hellhole that we live in. It's always been about building on other melodies and doing your own thing with them. EMS made a decent video about this recently, this practice has been around for centuries
The universe literally only has 12 notes
finally, someone who understands.
Hindemith explains the mathematics and physics behind it in detail but in short, the reason why the universe only has twelve tones is because there is a point at which intervals are felt as roughly equivalent to each other.
the ratios 8:9 and 9:10 both sound like major seconds (denoted by the symbol s). 25:32 and 16:20 both sound like major thirds (denoted by m), and so on.
12 notes
play 2 notes at the same time
now there's 122 combinations
too hard for my brainlet mind
give up
complain on Anon Babble about 12 notes
122
that was 12^2 but Anon Babble didn't like the superscript 2
This. There's so much more to music than just the notes. Really it's not what you play it's how you play it. Think of how many 0-3-5 riffs there are.
I would say it's the other way around
youtu.be
yeah THAT LITERALLY NOT CORRECT
bug music exists
quite literally on a dancepad i can create a new sound everytime actually a natural yogurt sound has over 916391917491913792 tones in it at once i'm aware can't think of any new ones it's just that literally every ause nigga invent new ones every less than a second with brain
did you have a stroke?

a pinecone literally has more than 12 notes
it falls from a tree that means that from nature there is more than 12 notes
>attempts at revisionism
>trjd revise what frog sound is
The most "natural" music as you describe it is impossible to sing without pitch drift
I know, that's why I suggest using an equal temperament approximation.
Every instrument would have to have as many buttons as an organ
Yes. But most music is programmed on computers now so this isn't really a big problem.
How would you even notate it?
Chromatic staff + five accidentals.
Can you even sing it with any accuracy?
Everybody can using the the standard modern technique of pitch correction.
most normal people even perceive the perfect major third or the perfect b7 as sounding "off".
That's mostly trained musicians, not normal people.
A barbershop seventh very obviously does not sound like a dominant seventh. You don't need any special training to appreciate this. Likewise neutral thirds are obviously not minor or major.
yeah God can invent new tones
i hope you dont mind me paraphrasing some of your points
most music is programmed on computers now
people can sing microtonally using the standard modern technique of pitch correction
this is my main gripe with this kind of "lots of tones" microtonal music, it's impossible to perform without some kind of computer tuning everything afterwards
is this really the most "natural" way to make music, having a computer pitch correct everything? it being almost impossible to sing live or play on traditional instruments at all? is that really the way forward?
It's already standard practice, and it really is the way forward. My biggest disappointment with music is how the tradition of live performance has held it back. Imagine how good prog rock could have been if they hadn't compromised by restricting their compositions to things that could be played live. And if you still think live performance matters there are many possibilities for semi-automated playing. Single-finger chords go back to theater organs and autoharps.
whatever you write has probably been done before
This might only be an issue if there are people who've heard both.
This, steal everything that isn't bolted to the floor. Samples, melodies, rhythm.
Hard truth. The legends are all theives that got away with it
This way of thinking is why stuff like Doechii's Anxiety exists. You should take ideas, not entire melodies or hooks
tripe is the word you were looking for. trite is what you are

Then write me some hit songs please if not for yourself
Give me some melodies.
brian wilson did a lot that was novel and different, engaging and good music.
Give me some melodies.
i can't, all the good ones have been taken
he's also reused motifs and melodies several times, even in the early days (chuck berry riffs, doo wop progressions, surfer girl/girls on the beach)
I agree he has, but he also did some truly great and interesting and emotive musical things too.
