Go to Slowdive concert

go to Slowdive concert

crowd is 90% 18-21 year old girls

When the fuck did this happen?

sure it is, slowdive manager

Not in a 'haha sexy young women' way, but 'when the fuck did zoomers get into them'? Is this a tiktok thing?

kek this happened to me. All the overdressed tiktok zoomers. Zero Millennials in sight, only the occasional gen Xer.

shoegaze is TikTok fodder, the kids love shoegaze

Not Ride

yeah it really took me away. I vaguely remember my first show watching them in 2023 being similar but I remember a fair few more people in that mid-20s-30s crowd. I think I would've been one of the oldest people at this show a few nights ago and I'm only 26

man when I stepped in front of the venue where a big tiktok zoomer horde was waiting I felt incredibly intimated for some reason.

true, they are plebs

the kids love shoegaze

not really, they love dream pop though

If what you’re saying is true, then just be happy that the next generation is showing love to music that you also like.

No, they like it for the wrong reasons.

lmfao op did u go to sydney concert last night

theres no difference in a zoomers mind, get with the times

nah, Adelaide
unironically feel this way about some art sometimes
there was some stereotypical catty gay in my left ear the whole time just snarking has way through the whole set and all I could think was 'man why are you here'
why do non American gays adopt the black woman mannerisms anyway

This is correct. Music is mere window dressing for them, a prop in the dress-up game that is their life. It's "vibes" with zero appreciation for the craft. They don't know the band members, they don't know any of the albums, they don't know any deep cuts, they don't even know the popular songs beyond the twenty seconds of Alison or When the Sun Hits that featured in their gay fucking tiktoks. It used to be that being a poseur would involve at least an attempt at being learned. Now you can just say "brooo this is a vibe fr" with a selfie and voila, you're a "fan".

they need to embrace their demo songs instead of the new slop they put out

What is zoomergaze? It sucks though. Sounds way too much like grunge or nu metal.

in theory that's a good thing. I prefer HUM and SP over all Shoegaze except Mbv maybe. The bedroom producers and trust fund bands can try to emulate any style but it will never sound good. FL Studio production without any songwriting will never get them on a level with a 90s band

Self-titled back in 2017. Sugar For The Pill and Star Roving were hits, and the album probably represents the band's commercial and maybe even critical peak.

but Souvlaki

was relentlessly shit on when it released and is only really appreciated retrospectively. Self-titled was beloved by a new generation on impact.

they don't even know the popular songs beyond the twenty seconds of Alison or When the Sun Hits

their daily streams on Spotify have doubled since 2022, if you think zoomers use TikTok to listen to music you're technically retarded

the average zoomer was like 11 in 2017

I looked into this a while ago and apparently Snoy has the rights to their stuff under Creation Records so it's up to them whether the old demos end up getting mastered and released officially, not the band itself
It's a shame really, the Souvlaki-Pygmalion era demos are better than most bands' discographies. Gonna see if I can track down a copy of I Saw The Sun/Hide Yer Eyes and get that signed the next time they come back down this way

2017 was nearly a decade ago

Bros...

they really don't, Tiktok views:

Slowdive 470m
My Bloody Valentine 69m
Ride 0.7m

Beach House 8.1 billion for comparison

This guy gets it. They don't really like the noisier shoegaze. They do like slowdive because their aesthetics are fucking phenomenal.

When the fuck did this happen?

My working theory is that they have nostalgia of what came before they were born. I guess millenials had the same with 80s back in 2015 (I'm talking about vaporwave).
Stuff like Lily chou chou, Wong kar wai, even 500 days of summer. That's what we grow up with, through tumblr and pinterest.

t. 23 yo zoomer

No, the dream pop reverb rock side of shoegaze is a millennial thing. All millennial-made landfill indie of the 2010s sounds that way. Millennials seethe at zoomer orientated bands that have hum and deftones influences

When the sun Hits has more streams (179M) than the biggest My Bloody Valentine's song (When You Sleep, 111M)

how does she do it
met her once after a 2023 show and was pretty close to the front of the other night's show and honestly she's still just as gorgeous as the 90s

They don't really like the noisier shoegaze

That's just wrong. All the new shoegaze bands are much heavier in sound than the 90s ones.

I don't think the people who claim to like deftones are the same who claim to like shoegaze.
It looks to me that the deftones fans are those onlyfans girls who fakeplay their guitar while trying to juggle their tits (youtube.com/shorts/Hi3ucAt4S3U), while the slowdive fans try to achieve a more "dreamy" (and they do use that term a lot, alongside "ethereal") look (youtube.com/shorts/mv1OjlBK16w).
While I was looking into this and I agree with you, they are heavier, but all these new bands are not actually shoegaze. Some of their songs (the majority actually) are doomgaze with clear/emo vocals.
I wouldn't judge the shoegaze fans solely off of what the new bands are known for. Jane Remover, Wisp etc. might have revitalized the genre, but I don't think they are always shoegaze. Imho, if a new fan of them becomes a Slowdive fan, it's not because of the doomgaze tracks that these new bands put out. It's because of the more dreamy stuff.

While I was looking into this and I agree with you, they are heavier, but all these new bands are not actually shoegaze.

I agree with you, they are heavier, but all these new bands are not actually shoegaze.*
Forgot to delete.

I saw them at the Slough Music Festival 1991, with Ride and Curve.

me with the poster, 1991

Jesus anon, I'm jealous. Do you remember much of that show? Very curious what that JFAD era sounded like live considering it's a lot more subdued in comparison to how they play nowadays.

Yeah they were a lot more amateur sounding then, and their stage presence was literally gazing at their shoes. At the time they were seen as a poor man's MBV.I used to hang around the Creation records office and I remember when Loveless was finally released and we all heard it for the first time, it blew everything else out the water. And that was pretty much the end of the shoegaze scene.

allowing a catty gaylord near you for longer than a few moments

Your fault faggot

look mate I'm literally half a fag but I just don't get it
we're on the opposite side of the world, why are you talking like beyonce is your best friend

Gee I wonder (((who))) could be behind the insidious spread of the international gay cabal

are doomgaze with clear/emo vocals.

I wouldn't consider it doomgaze as they're way too grungy and not artsy enough.

Yeah it is a bizarre trend, saw them on their two previous Australian tours in 2018 and 2023 and last year in Liverpool, 2018 show was mostly 40 year olds, exact same demographic as when I saw Ride the year after, but seeing them last year I was surrounded by literal teenagers, just turned 30 that was one of the first times at a gig feeling like I was too old for the target demographic, which is fucking weird at a Slowdive show when they're all in their 50s

they added Sleep to their setlist in their 2023 tour, I'm possibly merch vending for them at Outbreak festival next month, if I see them gonna ask them to play Joy or Beach Song in their set next lol
