I don't care for him because he's racist against Whites. I can't tolerate that in an artist, as soon as I find out they're racist against my kind I trash the music I happened to pirate and sell any albums I have.

The guy was a druggie and partly a fag too, I don't know where he got off on shitting on Whites. His house wasn't orderly enough to go around being racist.

Most blacks hate whites

Miles was always known as a huge poseur and scene tourist.

Kek

Ludicrous assertion, he's got like the second largest amount of tunes in the regular repertoire and was band leader on so many essential recordings. This reeks of rockist contrarianism.

Every popular artist is called 'overrated" at some point. In Miles' case, it doesn't help that he played a big part in many controversial changes in jazz music, such as Fusion, or that he was a huge asshole in real life, who liked to talk smack about other musicians who were just as talented as him if not more.
Personally, I like his music, and I think he deserves a lot of his fame, but he did let it go a bit to his head.

the victimhood is strong with this one

how do you do fellow jazzers

Who's calling him overrated?

"Overrated" is such a cancerous word for music criticism because it says nothing about the music itself, but indulges a useless meta-commentary on other people's opinions. Music reviewers should try to say something enlightening about music rather than being contrarian against the opinions of other reviewers

Music reviewers should try to say something enlightening about music rather than being contrarian against the opinions of other reviewers

That takes brains and discipline, so fat chance.

Is it even a common thing to say among reviewers?

Among amateur reviewers on RYM and Anon Babble, absolutely. At this point, Anon Babble is almost incapable of talking about music itself and the assessment of the music is secondary to the assessment of other people's opinions on it

Not saying he wasn't important, but Miles was the worst song stealer in the history of the music heres some examples.

Solar

Actually written by Chuck Wayne

Blue in Green

Actually written by Bill Evans

Four and Tune Up

Actually written by Eddie Vinson

Seven Steps to Heaven

Actually written by Victor Feldman

Budo

Actually written by Bud Powell

There are so many more examples, I would be surprised if Miles Davis actually wrote one song by himself.

I barely ever listen to any black people's music. Some foundational delta blues. Some Herbie (who doesn't seem to hate Whites).

Buddy you're on a board that almost entirely revolves around contrarianism.
You can't really be that surprised.

How many pairs of furry ears do you own

Times are a changing, White people won't tolerate your nonsense any more. You missed and you lost and it's all being rolled back. Your attitude will determine if we roll back merely to the '90s or if we need to roll all the way back to the '30s. So get as lippy as you want, but don't blame society for what happens next. YOU asked for it and you WILL be victim blamed and shamed.

'Meta commentary on other's opinions' is the bread and butter of all these reviewers, amateur or not.
The 'pro' reviewers are worse because they don't actually enjoy music for the most part, people who enjoy music don't say the things that Christgau would say, for example. You only say those things if you're trying to put on a front to other people, it's all very dishonest.

you want to be a victim so bad kek

He came from the richest black family in Illinois.
He hated whites because he had to deal with inferior white people who called him a boy.

Because it's the primordial jazz choice for rockists

Jazz people don't care about songs.
They are just chord sequences to improvise on.

Mid comment
This commentary mogs you

I just don't like trumpet that much

where? i don't see any hate for him here or anywhere else

I can tell you're white and that you'd react just as strongly if an artist came out as hating blacks.

Wrong again, victim.

He USED to be racist but changed his mind when he first visited France after the war in 1949. He found out there are loads of white people in the world who are cordial and generous, he just got overexposed to a bunch of aggressive, black-hating whites in America. You have to keep in mind he got treated poorly by cops a lot and even witnessed a couple lynchings. This is a well-known fact and you come off like a major faggot tourist for being this girly and whiny.

Man tourists will just say anything to sound smart lmao

I actually love him cause he's racist against whites
t.racist that respects the honesty and hustle

Benny Golson and Horace Silver were great tunesmiths but they were not nearly as famous as Coltrane or Davis.
Jazz people care about performance, not songs.

I prefer Kilometre Michael

Or both.

He’s got this little tune called so what you may have heard of

its a banger but what a team effort to make it what it is on the album

so what, pharaoh's dance, the list could go on

pharaoh's dance

Written by Joe Zawinul

I mean do you want it go on? Shh/peaceful and right off would also make my personal list of his best. Do you really have a hard time thinking of songs composed by Miles?

you got me there, kek

i like milestones too

i like Coltrane, but i wanted to kill him after listening to his version of Greensleeves. thanks for reading my blog.
