It's up
Metal is saved baybee
the death metal is back, but all the medieval folk elements have been replaced by jazz
still good i guess
bump. i want to see more opinions on this album
Wanted to comment on previuos thread
800 sec waiting time because i almost never post
gets archived before i can comment
I war surprised how much growling it had, i expected much less but i'm glad and he sounds great too.
After Watershed he started writing a death metal ablum but it got canned and they made the switch to the prog era. This feels like what that could have ended up like.
I like it a lot and most likely will like it even more on a second listen.
I bet Fantano will rate it like a 6
Another mid album but this time they're trying to hide it behind shitty growls which midwits think is the best thing ever /m
What the fuck? This is actually so good.
I will need more listens but based on the first one this is a top 3 Opeth album
So what's the album story about?
I'm not hearing any jazz though?
post time stamps of jazz parts
Bump
holy shit this sucks
this is a top 3 Opeth album
fuckin wew lad
Fantano Derangement Syndrome
Fantano hates most prog
Listening to it right now. It's lacking any iconicity. I cant retain any particular memorable part, riff, musical section, it's way too complicated without any reason to be so.
§5 is having some nice musical stuff going on starting at around 1:30
I might have to listen to it a couple times, I sense there might be something worthwhile
I might have to listen to the last 5 albums again, actually. It's a strange catalog
yeah cuz he hates anything good
I cant retain any particular memorable part, riff, musical section, it's way too complicated without any reason to be so.
summed up well. everything is just so muddled. it just goes from new section to new section.
I bet you could make a good 2-lp concept album with the sheer amount of ideas thrown at every minute of the album
Copyright claimed
§4 is the best song
all i've heard from Opeth is Blackwater Park
which i rated a 5 back in 2020
should i listen to this new album or one of their other older albums first?
Out of 5 or 10?
out of 5
Listen to Stil Life first
okay i will
It's lacking any iconicity. I cant retain any particular memorable part
That's most Opeth
They didn't click with me on first listen
Listen to Ghost Reveries too
will do
listen to all their pre-2010s albums first
I like Paragraph 4
Very jazzy
with each listen, this clicks more and more with me. right now, it's a high 8 - low 9.
a story never told is kinda meh, especially since the track before has a great outro and is a kickass song as a whole.
THIS ALBUM IS LITERALLY FUCKING PERFECT, HOLY SHIT!! 5/5!!!
*proceeds to never listen to the band again*
rymfags are a fucking joke
An instant classic, and a true masterpiece! This record seems to be the most complete musical production I can recall in the past several years.
I really don't like it, the constant section changes are not enjoyable and it sounds a too goofy. When I think of prog rock this is definitely my last favorite style of it. I need to go listen to Morningrise or Still life to get this bad taste out if my ears.
My arms your hearse is the best opeth no if you say anything else you're wrong, I know the leper affinity is mad and the drapery falls and moonlapse vertigo is probably my favourite song by virtue of being the first opeth song I ever heard but my arms your hearse is still there best album
disgusting listening habits. art means nothing to you.
i'm not sure jazz is the right word. it just doesn't have the mood of the older albums thats all.
Yeah, lmao. At least this is heavier than the camel worship era but I'd more likely listen to any album from Watershed and backwards.
I alternate between MAYH and Morningrise for #1, but if forced I likely agree with you. Probably would round out the top 5 with Blackwater, Deliverance, and Damnation.
It pissed me off that that fag Bradley Hall called My Arms Your Hearse shit. But praised there prog era.
I liked it.
felt EXACTLY the same. wanted to put on any of the first 5 albums to cleanse my mind. this new album is a unmemorable mess that leaves me feeling annoyed and irritated.
i enjoyed In Cauda Venenum for what it's worth
Only gave it a couple listens so far but it seems like the kind of album that gives more as you listen to it more. It's really dense and feels like it compresses enough ideas down to double its runtime and still be alright. On principle I like it more than the last 4 and Paragraph One remains what I hoped their prog sound would ultimately become, but it's not an immediate record at all.
this album is a chore to sit through. it's only 50 minutes but feels like 2 hours
