So close

third time's the charm boys

FUCK CAN A JANNIE JUST ADD /PROD/ TO THE OP TITLE

is this the thread?

Some stuff I started today, had to reinstall windows so I'm missing most of my vsts. It's been fun limiting myself but it's mostly all shit.
I like some of the sounds in the first two, the third one I think sucks all together, and the last one is the first one I've tried that's not straight up electronica sounding (it also kinda sucks)

It definitely sounds like what it's supposed to sound like. Good job! I wish I was better at crafting a sound (even a generic one) like this. It sounds like I'm shitting on you, but I'd say the same thing about a deadmau5 song.
I have a primal urge to break rules I don't even understand enough to break properly, for no reason other than ... ego? idk
being able to "craft a sound" just means you have access to a greater range of sounds to sample/use and then the experience/understanding to make the right choices to end up with a "crafted sound"

based on your vocaroos, you need to expand your drum sample library - lot of stock sounds in there
synths are a bit more difficult - as you probably just need to spend a few years learning and practicing synthesis before you'll be able to make the sounds you want

I can’t believe /prod/ is so close to dying again…

FINALLY

I think I'm more talking about

I'm going to make a bossa nova song today

makes a bossa nova song

I tend to think I can break rules along the way, and I end up doing it so poorly I leave the idea behind.

For example, I tried to copy this

And somehow ended up here (muddy)

Maybe it's the drums I'm choosing, but those songs are just bones and the drums were just there to keep time / keep me sane.

sick track, but fuck you for posting it in prod

haven't been feeling cute

ITS A MEME U DIP

i-im not actually a faggot, i-its a joke

I liked this one. Feels like a good basis to go off, just needs to evolve more and be fleshed out with more sounds/parts.

New to music production.

Have zero clue what I am doing most of the time.

Accidently make something that sounds awesome.

Lack of experience prevents me from expanding upon it.

Any suggestions for how to improve this are very welcome.

im pretty baked and this was kinda trippy, reminds me of terraria

Lack of experience prevents me from expanding upon it

not everything has to be a 3minute radio song

I just realized that the whole reason this sounds good in the first place is because my patterns are overlapping each other.

You just learned glide notes

Just keep making simple 30-second loops for now. Don't worry about structure.

Well it sounds like you're one experience closer to figuring it out.
If this was just used as an ambient bg track for a game or something, I think all you need is arrangement. You could probably loop the part before 30 seconds and then do the part after, maybe even loop that, or return to the first loop. When the part changed (30 seconds ish in) I felt like I wanted to hear the loop more.

Thanks! That's the one I like best too. I keep humming it to myself so I think I'll be able to finish it naturally.

Op you fricken dumbass

Bump
Page 10 Tf is wrong with you guys

shhhh just let it slide so we can get a proper thread

really nice song enjoyed it a lot, my one critique is the drums. to me it feels like they lack variation and groove. they feel quite stale after a while even if the sounds are there

vocaroo.com/1n6MFCAdlaAH

Pretty sick. Idk why would you ask to be gentle.

vocaroo.com/1lRbM4Jij7Ma

Need better pad sound, melody is nice tho.

vocaroo.com/1euH3hN69urJ

Noice, not my genre tho.

voca.ro/1drU8BEU2ikx

I make music on and off for like 5 years and im only starting to get melodies i have in my head
right bro. No comment on expanding them. Do better than me, thats all i got to say

vocaroo.com/1f1FNkhiPOKU

Chill out with that bass bro!!! Also wouldnt mind it being a lil mo diverse in terms of notes its playing.

Thanks, im already fixing the drums,
dequantizing them ie. Putting them off the grid. That'll give groove i guess? I can put some more variation, sure. Got already 3 variations but probably wouldnt hurt to get some more
though garage is supposed to be pretty repetetive is it not?

true, but the reason repetition works in garage is because the drums have a very strong underlying groove to them

How do you define groove yourself? Its probably one of those things that cant be defined, its when drums work i guess. Drums have always been my weakest link in production, i get chords, baselines, melodies, vocals, arrangement but for some reason my drums are always pretty weak

vocaroo.com/1lRbM4Jij7Ma

Thanks! There isn't actually a pad but yeah that organ sucks and you can't hear the horns.

Tried another shot at being stripped down. Made this piano loop
vocaroo.com/1adeMhH3CAM5
and then tried to play bass on top and wrote around it.
The melody thing I added halfway in sucks ass I know but I think I'm getting closer to making music

How do I get compression in my music that sounds like this ?

bumping the dead thread without a title

LET. IT. DIE

You bumped it too retard

is the /prod/ in the subject crucial to the discussion?
also, why don't you make a new thread right now?

everyone thinks different, especially now that music is so accessible. i think of groove as rhythm and of its importance as making up 1 half of the macro elements of a song. for example the two components of melody is pitch and rhythm, the two components of a drum kit is timbre and rhythm, and the two components of bass is feel and rhythm. thats just how i like to imagine things and while its probably a wrongly broad way of looking at things it helps me to stay focused when arranging

obviously not, but it's the most obvious reason for there being practically no posters since this thread started.

but it's the most obvious reason for there being practically no posters since this thread started.

the last 3 threads died bro, and they all had /prod in the title

it's been slow lately but this one is noticeably slower

idc either way since this thread is so shit now but i thought this was obvious

Was there just a lot of bots prior to the election or something? Crazy how less active this board is now.
I think this is going somewhere but it needs variation, and less delay. Thoughts?
vocaroo.com/12ZBSRxh8oL1

funcoverthing.png - 1024x1024, 1.96M

i think the delay could stay but be progressively introduced or quieter/more panned to differentiate it from the organ lead thing

the main drum sounds are absolute ass and took me out of the mood
