/prog/ – Progressive Rock General

Are there any real pure prog albums this century or are they all metal and alt rock fusion garbage

Echolyn acknowledged. It's about time.

Pure prog albums this century?

Depends. By "pure prog," do you mean stuff that sounds like the high point from the 70s?

Yeah like symphonic prog

There's Wobbler, which sounds like a pastiche of that prog style, not to mention the countless stuff circulating on Bandcamp that gets little to no attention. Take pic rel as an example.

My Band

Yes

any Progressive Neofolk?

I couldn't recommend this enough.

just listen to 70s prog, why would you want to listen to cheap modern recreations of older music?

Slow threads huh?

Is there anyone slightly visible who's making something that sounds kinda proggy these days?
Does the current musical generation have a Mars Volta? or even a Muse?

thread died early cause you didn't Acknowledge Kansas

Belew > Wetton > Lake > everyone else > Jakko
You can't refute this.

Slow threads

More like culling the herd.

There's always a next time.

You can't refute this

Lake > Wetton > everyone else > Belew > Jakko
I just did.

Yes, My Band

Uhhhh I heard black midi in a hipster cafe on my third world shithole last month so they're definitely known in alt. circles
Otherwise prog is taking a break from the spotlight, if the guy above me counts then Haken is still being talked about in metal circles but the band is 15 years old ffs. And a rapper sampled Gentle Giant but that went nowhere.

Wetton > Lake > Belew > everyone else in no particular order

Gential Giant > Genesis Giant

Cunt Crimson > Genital Giant

The problem being that black midi fucking sucks with their quirky unhinged vocal delivery and tasteless jazz influence. Same goes for greep and copycats like eunuchs. I fear there is way more to come just like it.

there is no Jazz influence

Hell, Gordon Haskell is a much better vocalist than Belew. Belew comes after everyone else who has ever contributed vocals to King Crimson's repertoire.

Based Lizard enjoyer.

belew > boz > haskell (frantic) > lake and wetton > haskell (subdued)
his vocals are great on cirkus, indoor games, and happy family where he does the playful psychedelic style. I just don't like when he tries to do greg lake because it's noticably worse

apparently a love song

doesn't sing any actual words

what did they mean by this

my copy of asia's debut seems incredibly boosted in the high end

that weirdo steve howe, man, always that high treble

Meant to say 90s btw.

as a matter of fact yes, my sister has ordered it for my birthday :D

I listened to The Weirding and Born.
These are a little more retro than I was looking for--I was thinking of something more alt or indie sounding (I was the anon who mentioned Mars Volta)--but they were good listens regardless. Nice balance of symph and heavy prog, with an occasional contemporary flourish. Thanks for the recommends.

my sister

is she hot?

i don't know mate she's my sister

she's my sister

that alone should make her attractive to you

and?

70s Crimson (Wetton) > 60s Crimson > 70s Crimson (pre Wetton) > 80s Crimson > 10s Crimson >>> 90s Crimson >>>> 00s Crimson

10s Crimson should be higher

No way you can call 90s Crimson bad unless you lump in the projekcts to weigh them down
Double trio is peak live KC

I only like 80s KC

stop posting this trans freak

60s Crimson > 70s Crimson (pre Wetton) > 70s Crimson (Wetton) >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 80s Crimson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 90s Crimson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 00s Crimson >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> 00s Crimson

The last one should read 10s.

Breddy gud.

Meltdown is a masterpiece
