Looks good, but is there a specific reason for choosing red?

do it. i dare you.

it's not covered

Cringe tb h

I imagined myself listening to Black Sabbath on it and what color I would want to listen to it on and that color was red. Green was a neat option but I don't like the shade. Wood is another $120

Only thing holding me back is no anti-skating control. How big of a deal is that omission?

it has a cover frog its just detachable

If you don't have a turntable from the 70s get the fuck outta ere

no anti-skating

That seems to be the norm these days so it can't be too important. Maybe they figured out how to work it into the tonearm rotation. No idea desu.

If you want to second guess yourself I rave about the Fluance with ortofon blue. Love it.

For me? It's a BSR record changer with 16 speed

16 speed

Is it a bicycle?

I'd like a vinyl expert to explain the phenomena to me but I can't find anything beyond a basic explainer.
yeah it's either the U-T or the RT85N for me. kind of feels like an Apple vs. Android situation with these two.
did you get the measuring doohickeys to make sure everything is in order with the counter-balance and anti-skate? seems like a pain desu
very nice. checked

doohickeys

No, just did the basic counterweight stuff and it comes with a bubble level. I didn't do the protractor alignment as suggested but no problems that I'm aware of.

Uturn orbit not a bad table at all.

Also did the anti-skate. It's built in and easy to do, just forgot it had it.

On our original tonearm, some anti-skate force was applied via damping of the unipivot bearing. This damping is not possible with the new gimbal bearing, so we designed an anti-skate mechanism (consisting of a small spring that is pre-set at the factory) that provides a small amount of outward force to counteract inward skating force.

The new anti-skate mechanism allows the stylus to sit more precisely in the center of the groove, which improves trackability and further reduces distortion. The difference is most noticeable on difficult-to-track passages that contain large amplitudes or complex waveforms (e.g. trumpets, percussion).

Internal anti-skate according to U-turn.

does this include vertical tracking force (VTF)? because I see multiple youtube people using a VTF gauge doohickey. its all so complicated lol

Nah, fuck all that. Balancing a tonearm is easy.

Incidentally, you have to install the counterweight by hand out of the box and with the fluance it took a lot of force before it was on properly. People say you think you're going to break it and I thought that way before I applied enough force. You can get it half on and think it's ok but the weight won't adjust.

thanks for the help anons.
I think my plan is to get a U-Turn Custom and then an Audio Technica VM540ML down the line + get a hi-fi store to align it for me so I know its not fucked up

Q: I'm curious, what is the FIRST record you anons play when you want to test your audio setup?

birds.jpg - 1000x685, 92.14K

for me i play a single of God Only Knows by The Beach Boys
cause i've got 2 i can use one to test

there is anti skate built into the tone arm

fuck fuck FUCK just found a forum shitting all over U-Turn for a number of reasons. and found out that the Fluance RT85N is in essence too bitchmade for the Audio Technica VM540ML.

I'm gonna end up getting a $1,000 direct drive table aren't I

Linear tracking puts less wear on the record, a lot less. Some claim 10x less.

Audiophiles are full of shit.

Checked but no, you're wrong. Some audiophile stuff is lame and retarded, OTOH better quality speakers, class A over AB or worse, etc. is all solidly grounded and Sciencey, as a Redditor you should love Science.

if the SL-10 is so good why aren't they still making it
and if I simply must have it how do you clean all the boomer boogers and cum out of the sensors?

I do fucking love science.

if the SL-10 is so good why aren't they still making it

This is a very Reddit take, why don't you head on back?

Agreed. No turntable lid? Welcome to dust hell.

Because the motors are an elaborate point of failure.

Actually they're rock solid, the only real point of failure is the tonearm belt, which is easily available and can be replaced in five minutes.

I found an SL-5 on craigslist that claims to be cleaned and re-lubed with a new AT85EP cartridge.
How's that? I'm not going to say how much it costs I'm going to ask you how much it's worth if it's worth a damn at all

SL-5 is good too, same basic thing actually internally. Also there is no alignment step for the cartridge with the linear tracking tables, you just pop it onto the end of the tonearm and fix it down with the screw, boom all done.

for me its crosley

Some vinyl formulations end up developing a pretty good static charge after you play the record. Some seem not to at all. Since none of the record pressing outfits say what they use and it varies batch to batch to some degree, it remains a mystery as to why but let me tell you - if you get a record like that and play it on an open table it's going to be like a tractor beam for any dust particle in a 6' radius lol.

Some people on Amazon complained that their Crosleys cause a lot of wear, turns out some batches used a steel needle with no diamond lol.

Okay, I might just get that until I'm ready to really spend some dough.
Will 180g vinyl give it any problems? Cause I got some audiophile jazz records I just need to hear

NTA but record weight is a meme.

I know that but some high-end releases you can't get a normal weight you have to get the heavyweight. I'm not in favor of it either

Nah I've used all different types of records from the super thin ones that came in magazines to super super thick radio transcription records (I would guess 300g?) without issue.

Heavier records wear more slowly because there's more thermal mass. The diamond can get hot - 900 degrees or more - by the end of an LP.

can you post your player? I want to see it

Maybe later, it just looks normal though. Same as any SL-10. I have three actually, one has a busted plexiglass top sadly. The other is missing its feet and the merchants on Fleabay want like $100 a pop for 'em.

I also have two SL-6's (that was my first linear tracker) plus some off brand ones I got at the thrift store.

In fact my only table that isn't a linear is the one built into some big '80s boom box I have. Sucker is a BEAST. Has a tape player too.
