I still think you should perhaps try out some symphonies by other composers first before Mahler but overall absolutely, so go on right ahead, it's just straightforward music, there's no special knowledge or difficulty to it that you have to work toward, it's not like reading Ulysses.

In the 1930s, the Third Symphony was Arnold Bax's most performed major work for orchestra, even though its pallette is darker that that of his earlier symphonies. But it's a curious darkness. It has none of Delius's melancholy (Bax is often linked to Delius); rather its despondency seems to come right out of the troubled times of the Great Depression leading up to World War II. It has more modern complications in scoring than Bax is known for, but this is easily handled today by any good orchestra. Anyway, all I'm saying is Mahler isn't like Schoenberg where jumping right to him too soon would be a huge musical shock, because the influences from Mahler's music has seeped far and deep into music since and surely has reached you and gotten you acclimated to it already somewhat. So, again, in terms of enjoyment you're fine listening to Mahler whenever you want, I'd suggest the first or second symphony. But if you wanna listen and work through the canon in a progressive manner to hear and experience first-hand musical developments, then yeah, listen to some Brahms, Mozart, Schumann, Dvorak, Mendelssohn, Tchaikovsky, etc. first. But if you go for Mahler asap, it's not gonna be spoiled for you is all I'm saying.

Pretty good, but Kavokos' recordings of violin sonatas (I've heard his Beethoven too) are always a bit too slow for my tastes. I get one has to distinguish themselves from the old greats and classic recordings, and it's the style of the day too, so if it's what someone is into, I'm sure his playing is perfect. Not my ideal though.

Societa Corelli's recording of the Four Seasons is my definitive version of Vivaldi's masterpiece; Munch's Brandenburgs are one of my favorite recordings of those pieces; Fritz Reiner's Beethoven recordings are lovely on that label, and despite me despising Rubinstein as a person, he has great Mozart recordings on there. Living Stereo is one of the most solid series of recordings ever produced; don't let some retard on Anon Babble discourage you from enjoying them.
Depends, Sofronitsky for instance has by far my favorite Scriabin performances, but the recording quality is so bad. The constant background hiss is the absolute worst.
