I am waiting for someone to make an AI that will go through my Spotify albums and torrent them for me. Before then, not my problem. I am not going to care about a person that willingly chose to become a musician to become rich and famous, you made your choice, live in it.

Can someone explain what the benefits are of using a streaming platform rather than just using YouTube like i do now?

You don't have to care about them or their lives, but as Spotify gets bigger and bigger (including with your usage), the industry (and hence musicians and their music) will inevitably continue to cater to and be influenced by the toxic Spotify model. It will affect you even if you don't see how yet.

I completely disagree with you. They said the same thing about Napster. If its a small band I like, ill buy the album just to throw them some loot, go to their shows. But no, streaming services, not just Spotify, is not ruining the music industry.

Spotify has a large majority of the streaming market, and so whatever they do, as the industry leader, will have an effect on the way the whole market moves. If it's a race to the bottom, it's in part because they led the way.

The list is extensive, but at the root of it all is the way that music is devalued. To the consumer, for labels and services, for artists. Goes way beyond just low payouts for streams.

No, I wouldn't, but since the majority of people I know consider Spotify to be the one and only way to listen to music, they obviously have an influence on people's perception of music.

That isn't the streaming services fault. The root cause is consumerism and convenience. Pre internet, 90 of people were buying albums, physical and iTunes. Then limewire Napster blew up, and the labels and artists were all bitching about the same shit you are talking about. Now, I don't even have to download shit, I pay a tener a month and I get all the music at my fingertips.
