Which classic rock bands are losing favor among zoomers, and which ones are maintaining or even growing in popularity?
Queen and Fleetwood Mac have obviously soared in popularity among normies. The Doors seem to be gaining more and more of cult following in music circles, but this hasn't (yet?) penetrated the normie sphere.
On the flip side, I've noticed that the Who has very poor streaming numbers on Spotify. I'm not sure why they've been so forgotten compared to their contemporaries. They have nearly half as many monthly listeners as even ELO, which was a far smaller band during the 70's.
Which classic rock bands are losing favor among zoomers, and which ones are maintaining or even growing in popularity?
It's because The Who fuckign sucks compared to other british bands of the 60s (Kinks, Byrds, Beatles)
The Byrds aren't British you retard. They're *literally* known as the American Beatles. They have about 1.5 million monthly listeners on Spotify though, so they'd be another great example of an important boomer band that's been forgotten.
Also...
not mentioning the Rolling Stones
They're the best British Invasion band.
The Who is a singles band, but so is Queen and Fleetwood Mac
The Who only has one or two great albums, the rest is pretty meh. They're good but one can only listen to My Generation or Baby O Riley on repeat so many times
Genesis's numbers are pretty low considering how huge they use to be
I really do not understand why zoomers like the Beach Boys but ignore the Byrds. They're both very dated, but the Byrds at least have some cool guitar riffs.
beach boys influence is felt on todays modern indie scene the byrds influence is felt too but its praise is given to bands that the byrds influenced like rem or the smiths
It's kind of flipping with the 80s stuff falling out of public consciousness and the 70s stuff getting rediscovered by young people online
rem
Another band zoomers ignore for some reason. Why don't zoomers listen to Murmur?
theyd rather listen to cringe gay people (morrissey) then based gay people(stipe)
todays modern indie scene
soooo shit it makes my ears bleed. aaaaaahhhh my ears!! oww
exactly
I feel like Pink Floyd are still kinda big with zoomers
King Crimson are relatively popular with them. Still more a music geek thing but they have a good amount of zoomer fans due to the Jojo anime connection
I agree with The Who. They seem more known as a name than with big youth fanbases

REM deserves credit for basically inventing the sound of college rock (and therefore US indie) but when you're the "Everybody Hurts"/"Shiny Happy People" band I don't think kids want to go back and explore your catalog.
Seems like every zoomer that is genuinely interested in music likes TVU. In my day mainly the banana album was well-known, but it seems like the zooms I know who are into music beyond the surface level also really like White Light White Heat, self-titled, and Loaded.
Radiohead
They didn't even make their best stuff until the 21st century, though? I'm glad to see that Radiohead is getting explored by zoomers more than before. Somewhere along the line all the lazy bait threads about RH being bad started getting zoomers to actually have the view. Also, Radiohead are really the last great rock band, very important for understanding pop music development history. It's still insane to see zoomers parrot lazy "Kid A bad" bait posts, but with sincerity. Then they inevitably get into OKC and then the rest of their discography
u2 hurt their popularity with the youth with that iphone stunt and mediocre 00s output. they'd probably be looked at more fondly if it werent for those
They're the shittiest meme band of all time and they never did anything important. When will they finally be forgotten?
They suck.
Van Halen
They didn't even make their best stuff until the 21st century, though?
wrong, the 21st century started in 2001, also the criteria is "had most of their success pre-2001" and their early guitar slop sold way more than the subsequent albums
you're the "Everybody Hurts"/"Shiny Happy People" band
REM is the "Losing My Religion" band, zoomers don't know about the other songs
I know about those 3 and It's the End of the World as We Know it and all 4 of them suck prompting me to not want to listen to any more of them
I'm sick of this poster.
It's still insane to see zoomers parrot lazy "Kid A bad" bait posts, but with sincerity.
Lol nigga. Clearly it's all bait. Zoomers are truly a strange species with no opinions of their own.
Ok Computer: 6.5/10
Kid A: 4/10
In Rainbows: 5/10
That's all I've listened to. I concluded this while I was in the RYM echo chamber where these 3 were universally praised without the levels of contrarianism on Anon Babble
Kid A fucking sucks compared to OK Computer and The Bends.
RYM echo chamber where these 3 were universally praised without the levels of contrarianism
i don't get it. what's the appeal? where's the riffs? Radiohead is not all that. Radiohead is barely even rock music
You're really not missing much. Music journos tried to fleece the world calling Murmur a masterpiece for the last 40 years. It's not gonna happen.
Sorry you hate good music.
Sorry you like languid, plodding twang pop.
boomer rockers outside of the spotify top 1000:
1029 Van Halen
1145 Eric Clapton
1222 Santana
1418 Def Leppard
1518 Jimi Hendrix
1557 Deep Purple
1788 Genesis
1951 Boston
2656 Meat Loaf
great post
The appeal is often in the slow buildup and repetition of slightly musically interesting patterns creating a deep ambience to the album. Besides Electioneering and Bodysnatchers I wouldn't call them rock. I really can't stand the singer's voice, it's one of the worst I've ever heard (REM's is bad too but less so). But some songs have enough of a melody and vibe to latch onto that I can stand it, and I like
Climbing up the Walls
Exit Music
Karma Police
Let Down
No Surprises
Treefingers (though the Minecraft song based on it improves it)
All I Need
Reckoner
Weird Fishes
Burn the Witch
Decks Dark
the grateful dead
And what do you suppose is better?
Blue Oyster Cult is making a comeback.
that tracks desu
If you got laid more you wouldn't care as much especially given the age that most of you guys are at. Any Sane 20 something would see a 40 Year Old Man desperately posting about how "Zoomers no longer like The Who you're le weird pothead" and instantly think "Wow what a fucking loser" even if they don't approve of or like classical rock music in general. It's just sad. Nobody cares about your shitty 2000s Incel Chungu Reddit Post Rock Bands anymore. You need to let it go.
Why are you so obsessed with people getting laid? It's so fucking weird
I can definitely see the Doors becoming a new zoomer phenomenon, they have the gothic tinge to them, Jim Morrison has sex appeal, and they have a lot of classics. The thing with artists like the Who and Jimi Hendrix not lasting is because they don't have that many "hookish" songs, they have that 1 or 3 hits they released that people will be playing eternally, but nothing really else. Don't think there's like even up to 10 Who songs the public could name, the number is probably more like 5. Same thing as bands like the Kinks or Beach Boys, if you have a bunch of catchy hits you will last longer pretty much. 1 or 3 doesn't cut it so pop bands like Queen, ABBA, Fleetwood Mac make the transition into later generations easier than let's say rock groups like the Who
Aerosmith kicks Radiohead's ass
Mama Kin >>>>> every radiohead song
REM feels like it's going back to underground, because the "Everybody Hurts" band isn't cool but it's becoming more hipster to like REM when they are ignored by the Spotify type crowds
I too love comparing Apples to Oranges
Very insecure guy, the biggest achievement he has (or will have) in his life is being some lolcow/pop figure on Anon Babble derailing threads and calling everybody manlets when they are probably like 10-15 years younger than him lol taking drugs and schizo posting on Anon Babble is all his life amounted to i guess
