Does Boogie Woogie count as a sub-genre of jazz?

What about Barrelhouse?

no and neither is ragtime

Caught this on the radio recently and really like it. Picked Kikoski out pretty quickly, I didn't realize how distinctive of a player he is

Every time I listen to this guy I just keep asking myself

When is the music going to start?

What do you think?

Yep.

Jazz is a subgenre of both boogie woogie and barrelhouse. Dixieland tunes also gave birth to jazz.

Didn't know about this record, perfect way to end the day

i like my jazz pianists to sound like borderline functioning autists who would starve to death sitting next to the piano if someone didnt bring them food

duke?

I want a double breasted suit

Sadly we must feed ourselves for the first 15 years or so but then yeah the girls tend to bring sammies. They know we're already married so they angle themselves with positive reinforcement to our already beloved keys and then we associate them with our beloved and so they become beloved

Not really, it's more like a kind of blues playing that evolved until it became its own thing alongside jazz and regular blues. But of course, jazz players were influenced by it too, check out Walter Bishop's piano here: youtu.be/3VATrlmodWg?si=BGtLuD4ZxjMZ-rqn

The boog infection didn't start until much later. in the 30/40s we find no boog licks whatsoever and now it's infected every pianist everywhere (who can't play jazz)

you can lick my boog, faggot

Typical boog player mindset

Submit to collective will

It's getting hotter, I wonder if they'll ever figure out what game is being played here. It just keeps inching towards explicity
