Holy shit... This album fucking sucks. Goddamn this is horrible. Likely the worst new music I have listened to all year. However, the reception this is getting on the internet is making me feel like I am going insane. People on rym and other internet nerd gathering spots are claiming that this album is a 10/10, brilliant, amazing, inspiring, emotional, finely crafted masterpiece on par or even better than their first two albums and are claiming that people who don't like it are incels, chuds, contrarions etc.... They are extremly quick to personally attack anybody who doesn't think the album is literally perfect.
I feel like people are coping and massively gaslighting themselves because they feel they NEED to like the popular indie band album for cred/image online....
Of course their favorite melon like it too...

What does everybody here think about the new BNCR album? Genuinly curious if I am just weird in not liking it at all.

it's pretty good. some of the lyrics I will admit are a bit ridiculous but it's a lot better than isaacs whine and the really ridiculous "post-punk" aspects of it. this one leans in even harder on the Funeral-era Arcade Fire but it's good. At least it's trying to do SOMETHING instead of the same shit we've been getting for the last 8 years

They brought out the worse "art school" aspects from the last album and I don't really vibe with it too much. Im sure its a good album if you dig that shit though, the instrumentals are good.

They were more unique before, baroque pop isn't a new or interesting twist and if anything it makes them sound even more dated

You are insane. You honestly think this is doing something more intertesting than the first two albums??? Insane. This is bog standard, poorly done art pop/chamber pop. It isnt even as good as the stuff it is trying to be. And holy fuck, no, the lyrics are fucking terrible. Their lyrics with isaac were not brilliant but they had personality, alongside the whole project, now it is just generic and cringe.
Are they really though? I see people trying to say how beautiufl and plush and deep the arrangements are.... Are we listening to the same fucking album???

to each their own I suppose. I would much rather listen to baroque pop than garbage post punk

the lyrics with isaac did not have personality at all.
Sure, he'd occasionally bare it all and sing about whacking it or whatever, but it was all his vocal delivery that drove those ideas home. Which is something that carried over to this record. These guys sing their words well, but their words are ridiculous. Now. I like good lyrics, but when you've got even better instrumentals you can just let it go. And that's all I wanna do when I put on a record

but it was all his vocal delivery t

Okay so lets talk about vocal delivery on this album... 3 women who you cant even tell aprt because they all sound the fucking same and like 1000000000000000000 other carbon copy art pop singers.

better instrumentals

Some of the most uninspired, generic, boring, meandering baroque pop that wishes it could be Joanna newsom is better???

this band has one of the worst names for any band I've ever heard and it really makes me not want to give them the time, I can't even imagine telling someone I like "Black Country New Road"

Just listen to Fishmans’ Long Season its
much better

Huh? It's at 3.61 on RYM, which is pretty low all things considered. Usually new records by their favorite artists are immensely overrated and hover around 4.00 in the first couple of weeks.

you don't need to tell them apart. I certainly do not care enough to tell them apart, because I'm not even that big a fan. I know what the generic art pop/indie female vocalist voice sounds like, and I don't really think these girls totally fit the bill.
Secondly, EVERYONE wishes they could be Joanna Newsom, she's the best songwriter this century and maybe ever. If she inspires you that greatly, why not you go for it?
Maybe the sense of urgency seems lost on this record compared to the others, maybe that blows for some fans not just of the band but independent music at large, but I find that it's okay to reinvent yourself and slow down especially after the face of your entire band just quits

The arrangements arent any worse than the last album. I wouldn't say plush or deep but for me at least its my favorite part

Look at the reviews and the comments. The rating is lower than thier other albums and will likely drop lower, but the people in the reviews and comments have drank the koolaid and are felating this album hard.

Compared to other contemporary music its pretty good. What happened to that guy singer, he kind of sucked but I would be lying if I said he didn't grow on me

Wrong.
Wrong.
Extra wrong. Fuck you.

BCNR was never Post-Punk

Fuck off chud this album is a literal masterpiece it will be remmebered as one of the greatest pop albums of all time this band fucking sucked before this album its crazy they improved so much honestly.

They were awful before this album. Super bland, shitty singer, cringe lyrics, with nothing at all to say. They continue to be terrible with the new album but in a different way. Uninteresting grandma vocals / vocal melodies, less cringe but still idiotic lyrics, and only one semi memorable instrumental part on the whole mediocre turd. Oh, and they still have nothing to say. Weird how people glomb onto some random mediocre band like this when mediocre shit gets pumped out all over the internet every day. None of it worthy of attention.

nothing they ever made is good including this piece of shit ad the last one.

this sounds like the Dresden Dolls

Name one musical act that has good lyrics.

Considering they've only made 1 half way decent song I can guarantee this is even more shit, they're a write off and only people with a god complex sit through the shit

highest rated album on rym for 2022 consisting of forty-nine thousand votes

ok anon.

What's the name even supposed to mean?

ascribing any importance to RYM ratings

You should never post on this board again.

you sound like an angry child.

I see you people typing a lot of words but failling in every level to actually express why this is good or bad.

there's a lot of great tracks on it. I do miss Isaac's weirdo voice but the new vocalists mostly do a good job but I agree they do kinda blend together. I love medieval and pagan type stories or music so the harpsichord on here is cool to me and the story on For Cold Country are up my alley. Mary and Two Horses are also standouts on the album, especially for the vocal performances. Overall I think they knew they were losing something when Isaac departed but they did an decent job adapting and coming out with something that's their own.

I like some of the stuff on this, bit it mostly made me want to go listen to Meer and Bent Knee

It is a fact that if a sizable amount of people like something and you don’t, that you are wrong.

Do you like scat porn? Piss play? Meth? Twilight? If you say no, then you're in the wrong.

Let me revise what I said, wasn’t entirely accurate:
It is a fact that if a sizable amount of people like something, *and you think it’s bad*, that you are wrong.

forty-nine thousand listeners of music are irrelevant and their opinions hold no value due to their opinion sharing platform of choice

why should I hold the opinion of one(1) retarded anon, on Anon Babble of all places, higher than forty-nine thousand people on a platform dedicated to reviewing music. you are a joyless fag.

He was quite literally me. Without him, I see them for what they truly are.

welcome to Anon Babble

It's fine

forty-nine thousand listeners of music are irrelevant and their opinions hold no value

Yes.

due to their opinion sharing platform of choice

No.

why should I hold the opinion of one(1) retarded anon, on Anon Babble of all places, higher than forty-nine thousand people on a platform dedicated to reviewing music.

Never said you should.

you are a joyless fag.

My joy as a patrician is the same as yours as a pleb.

It's not bad but there's absolutely nothing new or groundbreaking in what they're writing, singing, playing, making, whatever. Old-ass instruments, old-ass genres, should be playing at retirement homes if they're looking for an audience
