This website rules, and I say that as a genuine massive Phil fan lol. Jesus Christ.

people complaining about Anon Babble invasion in 2017

little would they know

Yes lol. I do love this. I once thought about making a power metal version of "Ravens".

I miss the days when CLT accused me of being a social Marxist even though I was just a dumb liberal. Now I'm a literal Marxist!!

Now I'm a literal Marxist!!

were you molested or raped in the meantime?

Nope, I did a lot of that myself in my spare time though.

tfw we used to be kinda funny

Everybody is less funny now tbf. Stress, apathy, antipathy towards our fellow man. It takes a toll.

tfw live 20 minutes away from Phil and saw him at Safeway like a month after his wife died

gave him the ol’ sad smile and nod

he returned it

Did you feel The Chasm?

Phil fucking sucks. I saw some videos of his concert and he literally just fucking opens his act with "Fuck the police", and then plays a song about why we should destroy america.
All white pale virtue signalers there with "muh colonization" and proceed to do jackshit about it.

inb4 Anon Babble

Phil made himself political.

makes an album about his wife dying

...while fucking a hollywood actress

not sure if based or cringe, need time to decide

he literally just fucking opens his act with "Fuck the police"

Based!

and then plays a song about why we should destroy america.

Doubly based!!

He married Michelle in July 2018 but I think it's also BASED AND RED PILLED that he tried to move on. Genevieve is dead. Gotta live life.

and then plays a song about why we should destroy america

cope and seethe retard

I don't agree with you. Why do you think it's cool for some privileged white guy to say things he'll never actually act on? He's a sham from what I see.
But I'm always open to new opinions.

For real though, it’s a small town and he’s a living legend among the local music dorks. I grew up climbing around the real Mt Erie and it’s surrounding lakes and as a teenager getting into the Microphones it was crazy that he was right there in town.

Sorry that I don't like music that's so blatantly political. I agree that America fucking sucks right now but why listen to self-affirming preachy shit?

Hell yeah boy.

"Fuck the police" is a broad philosophy and not something that you necessarily have to act on. It's a feeling, not a prescriptive call to action, especially when police have legal protections to literally kill you. Come on.

I've often said to myself if I ever get a bunch of money I'm moving out there. Though less because I want to bother Phil (I respect and love him a lot, but don't want anything to do with him outside of his art, for multiple very personal reason) and more because I think the environment is fantastic.

It's a feeling, not a prescriptive call to action, especially when police have legal protections to literally kill you. Come on.

That's a fair point. I just dislike his more preachy political music. It's a turn off.

I just don't think it's even that heavy is all. People have their worldviews and he's never made that even a 10% focus on any of his albums. I really do feel like it's an authentic representation of how he feels based on how little he talks about it as well as how forcefully he does talk about it when he does bring it up.

Hm. I'll take your word for it, could've just been a kneejerk reaction. Will give him a few more listens.

Nah you don't even gotta do that, but if you do, would you like recommendations? He's my favourite artist and his biggest thing is that he's a lower class white boy from rural Washington who loves Buddhism lol.

It’s beautiful up here but the people are horrible. The genuine locals are fine, but it’s full of transplants from the city who go out of their way to run it into the city they moved here from and it sucks. Like Isaac Brock said “I didn’t move to the city, the city moved to me”

would you like recommendations?

Sure! I know people praise his "The Glow Part 2" album.

It's his best album and easily the best starting point for the broad philosophy he lays out, but if I have to recommend just 1 thing before that it would be the prequel song: The Glow, which is really a masterpiece.

Will check it out, thanks anon for reversing my opinion.

I just love people approaching things in a legit, non-irony poisoned way and I appreciate you doing the same.

non-irony poisoned way

Can agree with that. A lot of online banter now is veiled under 20 layers of irony and closed-mindedness.

Exactly! Here's a pic of Phil and his late wife, one of my favourite pics ever.

His dad wife was such a qt.

OP here, very much agree, I've had a crush on her for years.

Go listen to Black Wooden Ceiling Opening and the accompanying live record, that’s my favorite of Phil’s work. I’ve seen a few bands play at the venue the live recording was played at but never Phil there.

It must suck so much to fall madly in love with someone, make them the center of your life, and then have them die. Makes me glad I'm totally alone.

how was he able to reach the sidewalk if his shoelaces were tied together

When he remarried a lot of people were kind of upset at him about it, and then when he moved to New York people got really mad like he was abandoning this local scene. When he remarried and left there was a lot of grumbling. He currently lives up on Orcas Island (maybe a 30 minute ferry ride out of his old hometown) in a house him and his brother built, before his wife died they were going to build it together but that plan basically got scrapped for a few years while he figured life out after losing his wife.

Yes but then if you listen to Lost Wisdom, Pt. 2 (the album, not the song), it's pretty clear that living in New York was a hard ordeal for him and that it was a contributing factor to his divorce with Michelle. It's just not an environment he can really deal with. People who listen to his stuff regularly can pick up on this. People who only found out he existed after A Crow Looked at Me can't.

I’m just saying it was weird coming from someone less than half an hour away. The scene changed. Like it got darker when he was widowed (Genevieve was also a part of the scene here so it sucked losing her but it was also weird having suck a big part as Phil going through loss), then when he remarried and left it felt even worse (like a betrayal to the dorks here who invest too much of their life into other people’s business and lives). When he came back he was welcomed with open arms because everyone here loves him but it was definitely weird for a while while he was gone.

maybe your gay ass town shouldnt act like some freaky weird cultists about some homo singer

Not my town, I’m on a different island. Anacortes has always been called Can’taffordus by my town cuz they’re all ritzy ditzy and we’re more rural redneck. They’re super hippy dippy over there. They’re also the closest music scene that wasn’t gay metal so I spent a lot of time over there as a teenager and young adult, that scene was more indie/alternative/folk kinda stuff and the scene here is all gay metal and some super gay ska bands so yeah I’d rather head over there for that music than my island’s lame music. They have one of the coolest music stores around and I’d spend a lot of time digging through records and CDs and tapes, and they’d always have shows with cool bands. Just saying it was weird having someone die and another people leave.

Really dont wanna be that guy but when it's a woman moving on quick you all throw a fit

American musican hates being American

Color me surprised. Is there a person with more self-hatred than Americans? They live in perpetual apologetic mode for living in America
