There's literally no reason at all to do what you did.
I think the whole thing might sound better pitched down some and yeah eq all the random overlapping frequencies getting added from all the reverb at least. Low cut filters on most stuff but bass/kick. Also get kilohearts transient shaper for your drums it's free, simple, and super OP.

sounds cool anon! good wide sounding mix and cool beat, the fake vinyl pops do make me cringe but that's a personal taste thing
overall cool psychill thing but I think your mix is kind of muddy, esp. in later half with more tracks playing, needs some additional eq work on the individual tracks to get them to nestle better so you can then scale back your compression IMO
Ye they are kinda wack just slapped on top. I'm planning on using MAGC to side chain amen break onto it so it's like a vinyly crackly really quiet one over the track, but it's WIP. Cheers.

WIP from yesterday, I know the mix is a mess but I think the bones are here. Started out as a piano piece I wrote then drew it into my daw cause have no keyboard lol. Do you guys think the modulation is cool or too much?

Nice. Good progress, anon. 'n yeah I use transient shaper in almost every song. Even stuff that isn't immediately obvious like lowering the attack to have synths or whatever fade in. Having the little pump knob is super cool.

Fair enough, I really like something about the way the cray pitch modulation sounds with the melody at varying degrees of coherence. Makes me feel like I'm on an acid trip and everything is flying around and bombarding your senses chaotically but there's a part of you that stays grounded and feels the comfort in knowing amidst the chaos that you're still on the path you set for yourself. Or something.
I get that, I do. I have the same ting with putting a phaser on most of my synths, they really trip things up. I'm not against modulation per se, I'd just rather it not be the pitch thing throughout the entire song.
Bouncing rough mixes to an anonymous audience is just so important for getting my mixes right. Especially since I tend to work high lol.
Definitely. I'm also shirtless high as fuck running out to my car to check the mix over and over too. My neighbors probably think I'm a meth head. If you like the way my bass sounds a trick I do to get it like that is putting a pretty aggressive hicut filter on it then a limiter on it anywhere between -3 and -4 db and then boosting it into that as needed. Then I put a GClip (any clipper works it's just free and I like how the 2x oversample sounds) just literally slapped onto the master with Mloudnessmeter after it at target between -14 and -3 luf and tweaking output depending on what sounds good. Then you probably have to make everything else way louder so it's not just the bass clogging up the entire clipper. That's just how to replicate my brain rot squashed BASS BOOSTED sound though you could maybe do it more tastefully with less aggressive parameters.
Thanks for listening and for the feedback :) I think you're right there has to be more diplomatic use of it, it sounds good to my ear because I've heard the melody hundreds of times.
One final super important thing I got to add. Idk if you have pro-q3 but I'd recommend using an eq that has linear phase mode like that does at the bottom for your bass to avoid phase distortion. Add some latency but you can get a way cleaner sound while still eq aggressively. If you're in FL you can also use Maximus as a hicut filter/limiter at the same time for previous steps by tweaking the bands and the envelope shape and then click the LN at the lower right side for linear phase mode. Little bit of word vomit but maybe someone will find it useful or tell me how I'm retarded.

I'd also add if I were doing this on a track with like a bass guitar I'd actually low cut that super hard then add a second sub bass that is basically just a sine or saw wave depending on what sounds good an octave or two below the bass that is providing the color and do the above bass steps just to that new sub bass.

8/10 and could go higher with a couple tweaks imo. I think if you use auto gain compensation on the white noise swells so that they follow the dynamics of the drums and then add a really bright dry reverb to that it goes to a 9+. I just think that would add a lot more movement and groovability. Really nice stuff, though. MAGC is a free and easy way to do that if you think that might sound cool.

disappointed in my retardation
stuck using 404 as main interface until I find the right mixer
but having less to work with actually helped me figure out a way to hook everything up without having a mixer
Since I have no plans for vocals, this isn't a bad setup and saves a lot of desk space. Only annoying thing is I need to have ableton open to hear any playback but that's not really an issue.
Sounds like a good plan. You could even do the auto gain thing on a separate track in parallel with the regular white noise how it is now to get both effects too.

Are you still around anon? Given what you said I tried to make the melodic part a lot more prominent so the pitchy bit isn't always so annoyingly in focus, do you think this is better? Also made it faster

If anybody wants to know how to make crazy pitch bent sounds btw it is a lot easier than it seems, for mine I almost always use CV with an LFO controlling a parameter such as delay time or in the track I just posted I am modulating the FM parameter on an FM synth. You sync the LFO up with your track tempo and it allows you to automate basically anything your daw will let you, it's a very easy flexible way to do modulation. You can use a pattern sequencer/gate or even an audio signal (this is janky) as CV out as well which allows for finer control but more input required. This language might be specific to my daw but I think most daws should have a programmer or similar function that allows this. Maybe you already know this stuff but I certainly didn't know it for a long time so figured I would share!

Does anyone know if MODO Bass or Drums are any good? They use physical modeling. Humble Bundle has a lot of MODO packs packed together for $30 total. I like the concept of physical modeling as it takes less space and can be highly tweaked, but they aren't always the best sounding.
I do classic Hip Hop boom bap, but I tend to filter it through SP1200 filters or 16 bit bitcrushers, then process it through tape or wax/vinyl emulators for extra compression and smoothness. It's not lofi per say, but I like to give it a 60's or 70's feel to my bass and drums. I assume if I feed my fx chain crap it will still be crap, so hoping for a response if anyone here likes MODO
I have no clue lol. Me likey physical modeling. Me no likey spend $30. Surely you can make some good drums without it but if you have the disposable income sounds like fun especially if you can mess with the modeling parameters

What? I thought that was was a very helpful trick, did I get something wrong? I know CV is primarily an analog thing and in that respect I'm not too familiar, I'm just talking about using LFOs and other devices to control various parameters automatically, and in my DAW the process to do this is based off of analog CV.
