2020s in music

What’s the music and culture of the 2020s? I can’t think of anything memorable happening.

Kendrick Lamar vs Drake

Fake vs Gay

Sabrina Carpenter got a ton of plastic surgery

I WANT TO SEE OLIVIA'S RODRIGO

imbred put out some new tracks

a lot of post-rock with post-punk and avant garde influences, if you're not into it then probably don't think it's memorable.

nothing really.
There has been a small decline in rap music and a small rise of country music.
Pop sluts are the same as ever.
Rock is dead, but maybe sleep token might bring it back into the mainstream? if so they really suck anyways.

2020s are basically the same popitmist end times as the 2010s except more dull

A shit ton of alternative music about monster energy, anything base boosted and really easy to make shit with no real meaning behind it. so basically all the indie/ bedroom pop music

TikTok

halfway through the decade

almost halfway through the year of 2025

zoomers still havent come up with an original sub culture or music

rap/trap is pretty much dead, although the old guard of rap keeps a death grip on its popularity, kanye is almost 50 years old. cant name any young rappers, nettspend? absolute garbage time

for some reason country music became popular, morgan wallen, zach bryan, the list goes on.....

white girl pop is as dull as ever, oh you make pop music and you act like a slut, how groundbreaking.

Bitch, the same description applied to post-rock in the 2000s. That is not a characteristic of the 2020s.

i wouldn't say that it's even some kind of alternative anymore
almost every shit is the same nowadays

2020s were the first decade where everyone listened to their own shit. there is no unified culture anymore; we have our own algorithm-led little rabbit holes of culture

The rise of the acceptability of anison and Jrock in Western mainstream circles

subcultures are a new thing, everyone had the same exact music taste as everyone else 10 years ago

Things can be 10 times stronger or weaker across decades, and you can notice that change.

Shitty country nostalgia and urban latin music. A very weak decade so far

Troye Sivan released the In A Dream EP Album

2020s in music

key artists are the very same artists from the 10s or even 00s.

G R I M

nothing except trannysm

finding out millennials are the last generation that matters, shouldering the burden of keeping the culture alive

The trend is that working class music in America and the UK is dead. The anglosphere is culturally dying, all new artists are trust fund kids fake singing over backing tracks while being incredibly pretentious over their own self-proclaimed genius in interviews. The future of American music is rich kids larping over AI-generated music while the plebs worship their superiority because they were born into the new oligarchal class. This is music now, this is culture now. You will slave away in Elon Musks company town while listening to XÆ12s AI generated anthems on repeat.

we're living in an increasingly soulless era in human history. culture is a thing of the past and hasn't been relevant anywhere for years.

Sophie Xeon died and took the future with her

maybe sleep token might bring it back into the mainstream?

no, and their last album isn't even rock anyway, recent examples of successful rock songs would be Sombr or Benson Boone

for some reason country music became popular

it has always been popular especially since the 90s, ever heard of Garth Brooks?

I come from a background that has experienced polarities of Chaos, with a bursting faith in God. I am here to assure, that this timeline will not last forever. In fact, things are actually going to get better. This feeling of doomerism, is unnatural to human spirit. There is no Global Elite One World Government. An ancient wisdom, older than Israel, has been called forth in this vessel for change. This name you're about to witness, has thrice meanings of powerful trinity: Peaceful Time Oathkeeper. First and foremost: GOD IS FREQUENCY. THERE IS A SECOND SOUND, QUANTUM FREQUENCY.

There is no Global Elite One World Government.

I never said this, this is about the decline of anglophone culture in the world as the United States descends into an oligarchy with a non existent middle class. Music is doing way better in mainland Europe than in the US, people are actually going to concerts there, bands are actually selling out venues because people can afford it, even bands that don't breach the charts.

now this is podracing

The way that they form and are served up from the data centers is much different. Used to be little local scenes would form, now zoomers are afraid of speaking more than once complete sentence to their neighbors in person so it's just vapid social media posts.
With the democratization of the production of music, you have so much mediocre shit to wade through it's really honestly impressive how shitty almost everything has gotten.

i just think culture matters a lot less globally and it shows a lot in modern art which lacks a lot of substance.
everything is so subdued to the most easiest and sanitised ends, the keys have been handed to AI because people can't be fucked anymore.
everything in the world now is white walls.

i hate zoomers so fucking much

every kid is into vocaloid and goreshit, that's the dominant strain right now

The problem is that a lot of modern self-proclaimed "weebs" don't really know a lot about otaku-culture or Japanese culture at large and just slop up trash anime while pushing an image of a Japan that never was and never will be.

eh there's some bands like Still House Plants, Moin, Bar Italia, all those have a distinct 2020s feel about them

getting fed by your spotty/yt algorithm isn't a subculture

the only time i got excite for music is 2020s is when geordie greep dropped that music video for holy holy

youtube.com/watch?v=A4EU_0vFzuU

key artist of 2020

all of op's picrel started in the 2010s

I think most of my favorite 2020s records are folk

Share some examples anon, I’ve recently gotten into folk music.

Culture has died, everyone is depressed and hopeless

What are your fav songs by them?
I was following post-rock and related -rocks until the mid 2010s, but I fell out of the rhythm.

muh perfect ethereal transtrender who in the best part of a decade made barely any wider impact outside of a small coterie of fellow trust fund kiddies and fashion mag sub-editors was totally about to change the future of music I swear

check this out from Moin, you can hear a lot of Slint but its all wrapped up in a slick, depressive, I don't know what else to call it, "arty" kinda downtrodden vibe? It's two guys from 2010s dubby ambient act Raime and a drummer with a long resume of collabs

I mean for that period it was the best pop music being produced, and what has come out since has been less good so yeah desu

are you in 10 years ago?

bro if you want to say the global economy was in a long depression since 2008 and there's no money to invest in such frivolous stuff you could say it in a less pretentious fashion. i mean the Great Depression also lasted an entire generation.

get a better brain

Yes I’m sure the electronic music with slightly updated sound design from the previous decade’s electronic music was totally about to change the future if only she hadn’t gone up on that roof to view the moon as was required of her strongly held spiritual beliefs

she

her

Try again

i saw some french pop girl while ago, cant even remember name. thats one of very few recent songs i liked. she was wearing yellow track jacket in video, anyone?

So far it’s been dominated by one record and one record only- 2023’s Mike Love Not War

Thanks for the recs.
I do hear very a very Slinty influence, but Slint used more trad melody, which I like more. I think the first one is too experimental for my taste, but I have added 2 to my playlist.

Skibidi toilet will be the definitive cultural artifact of the 2020s for future historians

drift phonk is kinda cool

If you can't see the influence she left on music I don't know what to tell you.

Smash that like button and subscribe for more and don't forget to hit that notification bell so you won't get FOMOitis also your mom will die in her sleep if you don't reply to this post

What about Chicken Jockey

imagine if covid had been for real and put humanity out of its misery

Lady Gaga

Bruno Mars

weird inclusions, also Bad Bunny is the #1 artist of the decade and Weeknd/Drake top 5

Skibbidi Biden!
JOE JOE
Trump is using HITLER'S LANGUAGE!
Hitler's language

Can't identify some notable new great trend, because the best music was mostly to be found in the electronic zone and that's been mostly a continuation of the late 2010s.

And even that is not that great, just much more authentic than all the mainstream slop pushed on us by the corporate hype machine.
So the outlook is terrible, considering we're already in the middle of the decade.

The 1970s was considered a relatively lackluster decade for music until the Sex Pistols formed in 1975 so there is still time for something good to happen in the 2020s.

The 1970s was considered a relatively lackluster decade for music until the Sex Pistols formed in 1975 s

Lol, LMAO even

pop died

Zoomers have no music scene because it was considered cringe to have music be your only defining personality.
Read: Zoomers got fed a parody of culture through cartoons and satire and was told that it reflected real life. Pair that with being on ADD or xanax since elementary school and you have zoomers.
Jeetification in full swing since the 90's and we have anglo liberalism and white women/trumped up brownoids with daddy's issues to thank for it.

its all pop artists that got popular in the 2010s

grim

Rodrigo’s debut was in 2021

She was a Disney teenybopper starlet before that, same with Sabrina
They were on the same fucking sitcom together
