I consider the first wave and second wave to be very distinct sounds so I probably would not put them on the same chart if I wanted to get someone into it. They'd just be grossly out of place because they sound so wildly different from what I put in but I did make a separate chart for an easy entry point into the first wave.

Back in the day MC was just the cheapest thing to record and release on. That's why you have so many "legendary" demo tapes. But that's not true anymore, you have to go out of your way to release on MC and is mostly for limited meme runs and novelty. See in the case of emperor, most of these tapes are probably from the MC boxset, that you could get at 50% off at some points who got bought out, ripped into pieces and sold seperately to spin a profit. It's alrdy fucked before it even began. But getting some 80s thrash from the thriftstore is allright. But the question is, didn't some tards alrdy buy them clean to gamble like it was for LPs and vidya.

BELIEVE IT OR NOT slam riffs are less than 10% of the total riffing. these guys are really into lots of notes disgorge style, but this shit sounds way better than disgorge. it's kind of amazing that musicians out there can actually remember how to play this shit.

Originally, tapes were all dubbed from a mother tape. Meaning there was at least another step from the analog master. And multiple mother tapes would have to be created. Each generation degrades the audio; details are lost.
Today, the tapes are simply dubbed from a digital source. At this point, you may as well buy blank tapes and dub your own CDs. When the tape wears out, dub it again.
I used to copy my vinyl to tape, adding singles and compilation tracks to albums, for portability, convenience and preservation. But that can all be done digitally today, achieving better results.
For the record: I've always preferred vinyl.

Originally I used a turntable with inbuilt dual tape decks. Some systems will capture your EQ or volume setting; others (mine) made a flat transfer, which is preferable.
By hand, spool the tape to just before the leader ends, and insert in the deck. This way, you won't clip the beginning of the music, nor capture the clunk of the 'record' button, when pressed. Engage 'record' (or 'record/play', depending on your system) after setting the needle on the vinyl, to avoid capturing that sound (some people like having the sound).
Depending on your tape deck, you would need to compare results between 'pause' or 'stop' at the end of the side, to avoid or limit unwanted sounds. For the second side, depending on the tape length, you will be engaging 'record' directly on the tape (unlike the start, which was on leader) and, again, you'll need to compare results between 'record' or unpausing 'record' (or 'record/play').
If the decibels of each side, or mixed sources, differs greatly, you'll hear it, and can't fix it unless your deck captures volume settings.

You might notice that Incantation uses tremolo picked, chromatic power chords and tritone intervals and they never stay put on the same tonic. In this song the riffs move from the third fret to the open fret, another one on the fourth and some on the sixth which brings out the atonality. Really solid work.
