Masterpiece with largely terrible fans

big man with a gun slaps

NIN peaked with Broken/Fixed but this is fine too

cringe lyrics

lyrics

I got Apple Music and just threw this on randomly and it blew me away on my beats I got for cheap, they gave me 3 months free or wouldn't have gotten it. Sorry for the "ad" not trying to be weird my bad but just wanted to explain myself. These headphones are way better than my old HyperX.

The sound design of this album is incredible and unforgettable, if you have a knowledge of true crime there are indelible moments in this album that sound exactly like phone calls of serial killers and basement tapes of torture recordings. There are moments I got tense as bad as watching a good horror movie but without the cheese that making "horrorcore" can often come with, like its authentically evil music.

Even the "cheesy hit" Closer sounds disgusting as hell if you just sit there and experience the sound design, the beat on that song and sounds are so far ahead of their time that even if the lyrics are god awful the song was just undeniably sick and everyone wanted to hear it. Actually the lyrics go with the song pretty well they are just laughable to todays standards, they do get at that sick incel killer trying to say sexy things to a girl and being weird.

I forced myself to listen to Hurt and I really fucking resent people saying Johnny Cashes version is the "official version" Hurt actually has wonderful sound and is honestly a real journey for your ears. Overall this album is possibly even forgotten, if you are a Gen Z I would definitely get into a dark room where you will not be interrupted, get good headphones and just experience the awesome darkness going on you will feel so much you would not expect music to be capable of making you feel, the sheer brutality and technicality going on here is something to experience once.

Overrated. The lyrics are really gay and Trent sounds like the dude from Smash Mouth. Then people say "well le production is le masterful" but it's just obnoxious ear rape. It makes people think they're cool for simply tolerating it when it's like babbys first industrial album

Not a fan unfortunately

an incredible record that stood the test of its time, I'm fairly certain its quality will not diminish over time and will be just as great as in 1994

Masterpiece. The Fragile is better

Sorry if I killed the thread by my large wall of text paragraph I didn't mean to intimidate everyone...

NIN shirts are like Nirvana shirts or Rolling Stones "red lips" shirts: people will wear the logo but never actually listen to the music

dude from Smash Mouth

I wish this meme will die already

Yes. Grow up.

My bad, Steve Harwell

monumental

Sauntered so NIN could run

now that i'm old i can hear how badly trent wanted to be al jourgenson. also because i'm old lyrics that were previously cringe are painfully real

Man any record that starts out with audio of someone being beaten with a rubber hose is a 10/10 in my book

i can recommend you a doll doll doll by venetian snares if you like true crime vibes.

i mean, i agree with that description, the problem is that was all intended for a teenager audience.
the purpose of the music is seduction, to seduce and destroy the mind of a 14 years old with weird and edgy feels. a waste of talent - just like broken/fixed which were even superior musically in their out-of-this-world brutality, but still with retarded poser lyrics. it is what it is, i guess NIN with intelligent adult lyrics doesn't exist, cannot exist with the same level of (fake) intensity.

a forever fake, forever poser junkie with an idiotic libtard understanding of the world, that can still do immense amounts of studio work no matter what, and has a thing for pop hooks

sounds about right.
they both lost inspiration around the same time
at least ministry allowed humor and absurdism to exist in their music, it was a bit more adult

also because i'm old lyrics that were previously cringe are painfully real

didn't catch that part first time i read it.
maybe you're right, cringe is a painful truth we don't want to be confronted with

actually teenagers can't understand these lyrics truly. it's not fuck you mom i'm gonna kys myself. it's existential and it's something you will understand later..after trying and failing always. life don't give you an easy pass.

Nine inch nails, although definitely not my cup if tea, is still better than the grating crap metal often linked here. Is jarring to read people who listen to unknown and unpopular bands, try to tear down much more successful artists, than the pretentious garbage they pretend to like for the sake of being a contrarian.

Even the "cheesy hit" Closer sounds disgusting as hell if you just sit there and experience the sound design, the beat on that song and sounds are so far ahead of their time that even if the lyrics are god awful the song was just undeniably sick and everyone wanted to hear it. Actually the lyrics go with the song pretty well they are just laughable to todays standards, they do get at that sick incel killer trying to say sexy things to a girl and being weird.

it's pretty clear in context (at least the first times i listened to it when it came out) that the song is not about sex, nor about a girl - more about a tranny talking to himself looking in a mirror or something equally lonely and fucked up

he could’ve lowered the volume on the last part of Hurt and removed the opening noise on Warm Place. the latter is an amazing piece and the edits where the speed is lowered sounds awesome

The loud blast of sound at the end of Hurt is the best part

Not metal.

and that's a good thing

the latter is an amazing piece

meh, not after you've heard Bowie's Low B-side which is the original down to the sounds and notes used. good pastiche and good that he did it though - I love this type of cheesy "twin peaks" ambient.

thankfully

I wanna fuck you like an animal

cool sound design and sampling but the lyrics/vocals are horrible for the most part and basically any time a stupid epic rock guitar comes in it sucks

Objectively true.

What is the upward spiral?

hesitation marks

Harsh, noisy and angsty

One of the greatest works of art any human has ever put forth, arguably up there with Beethoven.

Thank god

NIN peaked with Broken/Fixed

correct. and i hate "industrial metal" but this is one in a lifetime weird object and experience

but this is fine too

it's a hollywood product, whereas broken still had a feeling of danger and being indie about it

just ok
