Redpill me on Pink Floyd

Looking to get into them

Their 60s stuff is better than The later shit. They're ok. They were super influential for the first couple albums but kinda "sold out" after that I guess. Grateful Dead,Soft Machine,Quicksilver Messenger Service,CAN,and Amon Düül ii are easily comparable as is Funkadelic as is Magma as is Hawkwind. Maybe Zappa even! Least on the longer jammer tracks. That's prettymuch what Floyd are known for. They fell off after 72 maybe.

check out r/music

They do unironically like Pink Floyd there, but desu dude I think you're underestimating how "normie" Pink Floyd's appeal is. They're a "t shirt band" as much as The Beatles.

Just listen to Shine on You Crazy Diamond parts I-IX then be done with it.

Strictly for boomers.

AND HOLD ON TO THE DREEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA

tell me about Pink Floyd

I don’t know anything but I will pretend I do, btw Grateful Dead,Soft Machine,Quicksilver Messenger Service,CAN,and Amon Düül ii, Funkadelic, Magma ,Hawkwind, Zappa

Tard rage response. All of these bands have similar pacing and sense of ambiance. Similar "spaciness". The Moody Blues are also quite literally Pink Floyd inspired lol. I think you could probably add Mythos and Arzachel to that aswell though.

The Dead and Floyd drew on each other all throughout the 60s and 70s. Soft Machine are prettymuch just a band who was doing similar stuff around the same time.

just listen to Live at Pompeii

"don't know anything"

Guy who's so retarded that he actually convinced himself he "likes" TMR

"don't know anything" because I actually focused on psychedelia as opposed to just routing the funyn retarded yelling meme lists ad nauseum

thinking knowing Anon Babblecore proves you have goof taste in music as opposed to just proving that you're a "virgin with rage"

Gunther Shickert is comparable to Pink Floyd aswell btw. Also Sand. Way way moreso than whatever shit they said inspired it at that, bands I also like included.

If he listens to everything from Piper to Meddle he should be good though.

You're probably right Nad I'll freely admit Floyd aren't my favorite band although I appreciate what they did for the genre, but I'm fair to treat that as the classic era of their studio discography by a lot of standards right?

i changed my mind. just listen to The Early Years 1965-1972 boxset.

I mean I'm not super into Pink Floyd dude,no reason for me to be a reason to change that.

I'd trust your gut, they never sticked to me. Aslong as your gut says pre 1975 lol. Thinking it does though.

the boxset has Vegetable Man on it and thats my favorite song they ever did

THERE'S ONE IN THE SPOTLIGHT; HE DON'T LOOK RIGHT TO ME.

Is it you?

Unless you want to be that weird guy that knows their obscure shit then just start with DSOTM and proceed forward.

"That's very retardcore Bae! Giving Retard vibes yassss"-How Anon Babble Users expect to be treated by gyatts after putting out some shitty retarded take like this

Zappa is better than all of that other bullshit you listed, OP should just check out Zappa instead or maybe Dream Theater for real prog

maxresdefault.jpg - 1280x720, 84.59K

65 through 72 Boxset it is lol

You're kinda bullying yourself by putting yourself on the spot like this. I already understand you habe concept of pacing or presentation though yes.

The Syd Barrett-Era is the best but their 70s output is top notch. Unless you're a completionist you should just stop listening to them after Final Cut and move on to Roger Waters' solo work. Gilmour Floyd just isn't the same

I just know what we listened to in the 70's and it was nothing before DSOTM. Honestly I don't even remember seeing earlier albums in the record store bins until maybe 81 at a Tower Records in Las Vegas.

They're considered the peak of mainstream grandpa rock for a very good reason. What more do you need?

gets filtered by advanced prog

"hurr there's no pacing here durr"

what a pleb

Fair enough. I am in fact in my late 20s so I cannot speak to that.

You're just doubling down on being a manchild but sure lol,I'm guessing "advanced" means shitting out random notes as quickly as possible and that being le epic and sporky is the same thing as having artistic intent to you on top of that?

No concept of refinement. I think that's your issue.

how do you cope with the fact that mogs CAN's entire discography?

This post had a lot to do with a lot of things in your life. Probably a lot in terms of your mental development too. Nothing to do with me or CAN though. Hope that answers your question. I can tell you really really sexualize that broom thing even if you genuinely probably aren't aware of it.

Your obessesion with "Marzipan" is very weird and offputting.

DSOTM is the best

1 - start with

DSOTM

their best record

The Wall

a rock opera
kind of bloated, but filled with great tunes

Wish You Were Here

brilliant, hauntingly beautiful, a tribute to former member Syd Barrett

Animals

based on Orwell's Animal Farm, Gilmour really shines on this one

2 - then their transitional stuff

Meddle

Echoes is the greatest track here by far, but the shorter songs are solid as well

Atom Heart Mother

the band was figuring out their sound
title track is the best, but the shorter ballads have a ton of charm
Gilmour's solo on Fat Old Sun is amazing

Obscured By Clouds

supposed to be a soundtrack
forgettable, but sweet. One of their most overlooked albums

(you can now go either to 3 or skip straight to 4, depending on which albums you enjoyed the most)

3 - their post-Wall stuff (not as good, but there are some gems)

The Final Cut

this sounds more like a Roger album, very introspective and not as dynamic
still, some great stuff

Division Bell

Gilmour-led album, with some beautiful songs, amidst others less interesting ones
High Hopes is the best here, and should have been their final song

AMLOR

80s adventure in pop-rock, and the first post-Waters album
alright at best, kind of dismissable

4 - their early psych rock stuff is cool, but sometimes whacky and not as polished

TPATGOD

their debut, a real leap in creativity in the late 60s scene
Syd's whimsical brand of psychedelia shines in their songs
Astronomy Domine and Interstellar Overdrive are incredible

Saucerful of Secrets

less focused, and with Gilmour coming into the band, taking over Syd's role as he was becoming inept
extended psychedelic jams are sometimes fun, sometimes plain noise
Jugband Blues is the best song, Syd's goodbye to the band

More

soundtrack album with some solid tunes

Ummagumma

live album is good, studio album is trash
they realy didn't know quite what to do here

and Endless River is more of a posthumous compilation of unreleased material

Go back. You are detested here, you fucking cuckolded loser.

Spastic Retard repeats funny meme words at me because I was right and also because he's never had sex

Completely unironically this is what is happening here

So anyway CAN and The Grateful Dead both have similarities to Pink Floyd and so does Quicksilver Messenger Service and so does Amon Düül ii and so does Soft Machine. These are not new nor controversial opinions.

You can ad Group 1850 to that list aswell. You're welcome. Some Cockney Rebel stuff especially around Psychomodo.

Gilmour's solo on Fat Old Sun is amazing

I'm really glad to see someone else give credit to this. I think it's possibly his best work.

Pink Floyd were wildly successful and influenced a lot of bands immediately in their wake. There were also a lot of bands attempting similar things that just never got as big on top of that. Not controversial at all.

You've lost your marbles.

I absolutely haven't. They were easily as big and more influential than The Beatles were even if they were initially inspired by them. Lot of bands were trying to compete. Lots of bands were also just doing similar things or playing with similar ideas. Obviously Pink Floyd were the biggest.

"a lot of people like good music therefor it is bad music" unbelievable common redditor logic you might as well start using it yourself retard

Notice how this never applies to popular bands that Anon Babblelikes either like The Beatles who are by any objective standard pure "goyslop".
