It's a great album. Was surprised to see the latest live videos of her (YouTube pushed them on me) and she was super energetic, running around the stage the entire show. Sounded good too.

Alanis said she was mostly influenced by Tori Amos and Sinead O Connor for JLP. Glen ballard said Alanis told him that she wanted to make music "like Tori Amos". This was when Tori only had her first two albums out and several of the songs sound like radio friendly Tori. They pushed that split tour on Tori. JLP was mostly great though. 'You Oughta Know' felt like a really superficial reading of a PJ Harvey song for adult contemporary radio and that was kinda cringe but the rest was really good.

I'm a feminist, but she kinda sucks. Way overrated.

You Oughta Know" was really the 1st mainstream top 10 single that just oozed venom. I mean come on. The lines:

"Will She go down on you in a theater"

And every time I scratch my nails down someone eleses backKKK I HHOOPPPE YYYOUU FEEEELLLLLL IITTTTTT. CCCAAANNN YYYOOOUUUU FFFEEELLLLL IIITTTTTTTTTTT.
