Not even close to being the best alt band, let alone the greatest rock band of all time. The best alternative rock band is either Nirvana or R.E.M. I don't care how obvious or cliche of a choice Nirvana is either, they're beloved for a reason.

Best alternative rock band's spot is between Royal Trux and Ween. Also, Stone Temple Pilots is better than Nirvana, Hüsker Dü are better than R.E.M.
Lynyrd Skynyrd never gets included in the greatest classic rock bands because 1) They were southern rock and 2) Because they died prematurely. But they are by far the best, most prolific classic guitar rock band of all time. Most people only know Sweet Home Alabama or Free Bird but they have like 10-15 other incredible hit songs like that. Go down the Skynyrd rabbit hole and you will never come out again. They’re simply a level above all the other shit, yes even Zeppelin or Aerosmith, and nobody who has listened to their catalog or knows their story would ever argue against that.
