is any of this wrong? personally, i reject the assertion that music has to or should be a purely auditory art. very few types of music are sufficiently complex enough to warrant a listener's undivided attention. the original forms were certainly not pure, blending with dance, poetry, performance, religious ritual. none of the high-art forms since have escaped this blending, classical still coinciding with a formal type of evening entertainment where you dress up and attend expensive dinner parties
in that regard, it's quite natural that modern people continue to consume music blended with their other interests, with tv shows, videogames, psychedelic gatherings, parasocial girlfriends
