When did Deftones turn into the fuckboy and fuckgirl band..and why is it this band specifically that resonates with zoomers so much?

When they became popular on TikTok. What you have to understand about Zoomers is that they care most about aesthetics/"vibe" - Deftones hits both the early 00s nu-metal aesthetics while also having the "vibe-y" shoegaze influence. I've noticed a lot of the zoomer grunge-gaze bands that appeal to this type of Zoomer are primary concerned with aesthetics, to the point where there isnt nearly as much focus on the actual songwriting. The actual music is subordinated to visual aesthetics "vibe" to consume and use as a personality signifier trait so they can all dress the same. A bunch of se;f-described "non-conformists" all conforming to the same standards of non-conformity. They do the same with other things like Silent Hill - it becomes merely an aesthetic to co-opt, most of them haven't even played the games but watch Silent Hill vibe TikToks and say they're big fans because they're primarily interested in the "look" of things rather than the actual experience in of itself.

I've said long in the past early into our interactions with zoomers that they really don't care that much about a lot of things and hate going deep. If millennials were about ironic detachment while actually being scholarly, zoomers are the exact opposite of having feigned enthusiasm masking a fundamental nonchalance. If anything, it arguably hasn't been until hipsters that actual broader cultural, political and commercial change has happened somewhat directly contributable to them.
