Worst Songs of the 2000s

Vanessa Carlton - "A Thousand Miles"

This one is tolerably ok, at least I wouldn't turn it off if it came on the radio even if you have to snicker a bit at her Alanis Morrisette/Jewel mashup vocals. It has a beat so that's a positive over Hey There Delilah anyway.

Stacy's Mom is stupid as fuck lyrically and I guess if you like stupid songs it's good enough. I get why Christgau liked it but...eh.

The best part of 99 Problems is the beat other than that it's very very standard early 00s rap postering that doesn't do anything special. Definite proof that rap had become commercial product to be played at WWF matches by that point.

lamentably it was heavier than literally anything that passed for "rock" at that point

Jet - "Are You Gonna Be My Girl"

I want to shoot speakers every time I hear this

It's supposed to be some vaguely retro 70s garage rock. I'd rather listen to the real stuff than this pastiche attempt even though it doesn't do anything really that bad, it's more the idea that annoys.

Kelis always had those weird staccato beats on her songs. Other than that another cliched early 00s rap/R&B number based around stupid posturing.

It's kind of a rip off of Iggy Pop's Lust for Life which is a light years better song than Jet's

Made me not wanna listen to Fountains of Wayne because of how bad it sucks. Turns out that album is good and they're actually a great band.

Love Don't Cost a Thing is about as insincere in its message as Little Things Mean a Lot was in the '50s (as if women would ever be that loyal IRL). Nothing much to say about the generic mall sound system music.
