Vinyl records start degrading after 100 plays
sounds worse than CD
1. it's a collectible item that's nice to hold and look at;
2. there's no 2
Whats the appeal
Its bigger, fancier
RASTAS
Start doing this
simple as
the cover art is big
there
This. I think op might genuinely be retarded. Obviously buy actual set ups but even though all in one turntables they sell with the speakers sound better I think than any digital playback on “great speakers”
Always have had an will lad s just how it's gotta be right fooken MEGA
Big cover art, more collectable than CDs. Looks nicer displaying them in your apartment than a CD rack. I do like Vinyls and appreciate their historical significance, but in modern times people treat them like Funko pops. I own a bunch of vinyls and do absolutely nothing with them. I think I've played them a handful of times during covid
You might be retarded. If there are no differences in mastering, even cheap cd player will have much less distortion than most expensive analog player
The appeal is that every vinyl record cost $1 from 1995-2012. If you didn't buy in during that period, you should not consider the hobby
When did you hear the "most expensive analog player" and make the comparison?
Vinyl's sound quality is worse than CD, people have compared both using software and confirmed it
Perhaps a useful test if you are also software and your opinions are formed by crunching numbers. CDs are an objectively retarded format anyway, 24-bit FLAC is the king of digital and CDs are handicapped
this guy gets it mostly right there is a nice tactility to picking up a big slab of plastic and putting it on the turntable
it feels more dignified if only because of the added hassle
obsessing over sound quality when the vast majority of vinyl is just digital files pressed onto the disc is mega autistic
if youre gonna listen to any physical media in the modern age you kinda have to admit to yourself that the physical aspect is adding something to the experience other than the sound coming out of the speaker
For me it`s like getting a cup of tea at some machine in a gas station vs a full blown sadõ.
I have all my music on flac, but i have my favorite albums on vinyl as well and on those rare occasions i play them it has become almost like a ritual full of memories as I grew up with vinyl.
Though today i would think most people just get them for the chance to say "look at me, i`m different" or treat it is an investment.
The CD version is often deliberately sabotaged with shitty mastering while the vinyl is not.
muh warmth
you're poor if you don't get it
you were born too late kek
fuck zoomies
16 bit is sufficient for zero audible noise floor at safe levels. 24 bit is only useful to give extra headroom during production.
Snobbism. That's all.
Maybe the music is just shit. I mean, it's Oasis.
Biblically terrible opinion
maybe you are shit
you know LG x
Plastic trinket that gives a vibe of authenticity
Like owning a book which proves you "read"
Same for vinyl, it gives you audiophile street cred. If anyone visits you can show them your vinyls to impress. Not the same effect if you pull out a playlist on a computer
obsessing over sound quality when the vast majority of vinyl is just digital files pressed onto the disc is mega autistic
Your argument only applies to people who purchase modern albums pressed on vinyl, and not people who listen to old music in its original format
This post indicates a dual insecurity, related both to music and literature, where anon is intimidated by people who enjoy the pastime in a way he dislikes
But that digital version isn't always available. Obviously it would be better if you could listen to it without the noise and distortion of vinyl, but often the only digital version is ruined by loudness war mastering.
I bet you have a lot of "books" and vinyls to show a visitor hahaha
Based
Oasis sucks big horse balls
sounds worse than CD
Wrong. Vinyl can sound every bit as good as a CD, and usually sounds better because CDs are often mastered for in-car listening and have been since the 1990s.
AIs and the zoomer / alpha set just repeats lame untrue things like OP does, without even a shred of critical skepticism.
Fuck off count LG x
Unless your a DJ using it for a scratch record who
plays their vinyl album sides 100 times or more?
Even my favorite albums I bought in the 70's probably have less then 60 plays if that on them.
Old people: "I grew up with it, therefore it's better"
Young people: "It's old and all over the media I've been fed (films etc), therefore it's cool"
The Industry: We've found that as time goes on and everything gets worse retro stuff makes more money, so we're going to push it onto people.
Always seen it as a social thing. Even apart from sparking conversations with hi-if enthusiasts there’s a certain presence to a turntable playing a popular record atop a high-end stereo setup. Great for social functions.
while costing 2-4 times more in price
Sounds like you're shopping in shitty places.
I found some of my favorite all time albums for $10 or less.
But for my end, the number one reason I collect (and a reason I rarely if ever see brought up in these threads) is discovery.
There's a lot of really juicy stuff at thrift stores or cheap online that have never been released to streaming or hard to find otherwise (unless you love 144p YouTube reuploads), and it's lead to stuff I'd have never found or thought about through any other methods.
If you wanna discover funk, rock, or jazz that has been lost to time, it's an amazing way to do it.
I do occasionally collect vinyl for artists / albums I already know but that's far from my main focus.
they're just glorified talentless chavs
If VHS's go the same way, I'll be glad for buying all those back in 2017 for 25 cents a piece
