Is there a more soul-crushing song in all of music's history than Black by Pearl Jam?
Is there a more soul-crushing song in all of music's history than Black by Pearl Jam?
soul-crushing
define what this means to you and then we can answer
The BLACKest Day by Lana Del Rey
Not that many, another good one is Like Suicide by Soundgarden
SHEETS OF EMPTY CANVAS
Black Gives Way to Blue - AiC
the depression suite - the tragically hip
old and wise - alan parsons
Alice in Chains - Nutshell
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio
LCD Soundsystem - Someone Great
I KNOW YOU'LL BE A STAR
IN SOMEBODY ELSE'S SKY BUT WHY
WHY
WHY
Brutal
How to Disappear Completely - Radiohead
Fucking pathetic.
No wonder most of the people from that genre are dead now.
God forbid you listen to something fun and happy.
Glad I grew up listening to Van Halen and ACDC instead of suicide depression music.
Look at the smiles on their faces. Do that instead.
Fucking pathetic.
the irony on this post
Pearl Jam sucks so fucking much it's hard to describe the magnitude of it sucking.
Van Halen
Goddamit those assholes are the reason good rock disappeared in the 80s and instead we got ten years of hair metal trash until grunge arrived in the 90s and Nirvana and Pearl Jam made all those gay poodle hair bands completely irrelevant overnight
Well it's not really Van Halen's fault and I do like their first album but anyway you're still wrong and gay. And as for ACDC well they only have one album they just keep releasing over and over again
Still at least they're not hair metal, you could've said Poison or KISS or Bon Jovi so there's hope for you yet
This. And Eddie Vedder sounds like he's gargling cum when he "sings"
Do that instead
Cocaine?
It's a shame you didn't kill yourself with shit taste like that
It's a shame you didn't kill yourself with shit taste like that
Killing yourselves is what fucking grunge bands and their fans do. Mostly because they are drugged up left wing faggots with mental disorders.
I have nothing in common with low lifes like that and will continue to listen to rock music that is full of songs about fun and good times.
If that bothers your sensitive feelings maybe you should off youselves like the weeping faggots in your grunge bands.
Oh no, my Daughter, don't get Blacked
The Pearl Jam round your neck will remi-ind me
Not a single fucking song Slop Jam made comes even close to something as hauntingly beautiful as Nutshell. Aquire some taste.
Don't like grunge and every band you listed that you enjoy is embarrassing
My Doggo is kill by Keanu MC. Le poor chonky pupper >:-(
It's a shame they can't write songs like that anymore. Pearl Jam seem to follow some kind of reverse trajectory in terms of quality in relation how long the band ha been together. Obviously all bands/artists get old and their later stuff usually sucks but with Pearl Jam it's to such an extreme degree. Like how almost everyone agrees their first album is their best work and the band at absolute peak performance, the second album is not quite as good but still up there, the third drops off a bit more, the fourth is down to one or two good songs, the fifth album you can't even remember, the sixth album you got mixed up with the fifth, the seventh you can't believe they're still together churning out this crap etc. etc.
Occasionally the quality seems to go back up and they release a halfway decent album but then the next two or three albums are so bland and unmemorable they just blend into the background again and you forget Pearl Jam are even a thing anymore. Which is where I'm at with them now. They release a new album, I skim through the tracks a few times, get bored and go put on Ten for the billionth time instead. They're like Zombie Simpsons for me. I don't watch it and don't really know why it still exists but I guess some people like it, maybe it's just kind of comforting that it's even still going after all this time. Oh well.
what
the fifth album you can't even remember
Stop it Yield was a pretty good album No Code sucked but not Yield.
Based Keanu
Oh yeah you're right. Yield was one of their better mid-period albums. Definitely better than No Code, probably on par if not better than Vitalogy even. Still this is what I was talking about though, you get to that point in their discography and it all gets a bit hazy as the songs worth listening to become fewer and further between. Of course none of this matters in the age of streaming where everyone just listens to the one or two songs they like by an artist and no one bothers sitting through a shitty album full of filler tracks to get to the one good song. Hey maybe it's not such a bad thing that the album is dying as a format.
no one bothers sitting through a shitty album full of filler tracks to get to the one good song.
try listening to a good band you wouldn't have to do that
LOL! This.
Pearl Jam and grunge was a fad that sold itself as the new thing for the 90's generation. They had their appeal to emotionally unstable kids and drug addicts from that time period. The kids wanted their own sound and not their older brother or dad's classic rock or hair metal.
It's a shame that there was such a divide between grunge and older rock from the 70's and 80's. I blame the fans from that time period that didn't really fit in with 80's rock due to them being pro-gay and left wing activists from around the Seattle area. Their fans suck because they are mostly trashy people.
The problem with tracks like these (and music like this more generally) is that the instrumentation just isn't dark enough to fit in with actual disturbing / soul-crushing music.
No need to look to other genres, just go to Alice in Chains and see how the much darker / dissonant instrumentation from Jerry and co gave a much more nightmarish and depressing quality to the whole thing.
When Layne talks about blowing his brains across the wall in Dirt the instrumentation sells it 100%.
An anon in this thread mentioned Lana Del Rey and even her Video Games come across as being much more brooding and mellow.
Sun Kil Moon - Carry Me Ohio
also Sun Kil Moon's Duk Koo Kim and Red House Painters's Katy Song. Mark Kozelek loves himself some depressing music
EVEN FLOW
that was 100% copy pasted from the band's own website. get the fuck out of here.
FREEEEEEEEEEEEEEZIN
If you actually understand what his lyrics are about it's impossible not to vote for Richey Edwards
youtu.be
a fucking love song
yes, of course there is
youtu.be
someone already said this, but nutshell by aic
black picks up at the tail end and is "semi"-triumphant(ish), but nutshell is steady sadness
Yeah, Porch by Pearl Jam and Elderly Woman Behind the Counter in a Small Town by Pearl Jam, Chloe Dancer/Crown of Thorns by Mother Love Bone, River of Deceit by Mad Season, Tighter & Tighter by Soundgarden, Where The River Goes by Stone Temple Pilots and Nutshell by Alice in Chains.
My dad loves this album
I miss him
I wish I was a more manly man so I could talk to him easier
Yellow Ledbetter
Idk what the fuck he’s saying but I do be crying
Yeld is so corny, i prefer the 2 albums after that.
literally retards
from my experience if you're a bit of a shy sensitive type then chances are your dad is as well, at least to some extent, and if he comes across as a real manly man it might be just bluff and bluster to keep people from discovering that he's actually kind of shy and sensitive
or maybe you got it all from your mum and your dad is nothing like you, probably shouldn't listen to anything I say since I just remembered I'm severely emotionally retarded but I'm probably right
