Pete Townshend

Thoughts on Pete Townshend? I never listened to The Who apart from their songs in GTA and on TV (Baba O'Riley, The Seeker, Eminence Front, Who Are You). All I know about them is that they are/were crazy but that Pete was the craziest of the lot.

As for his love of researching, I don't know what to make of it. They found nothing on his computers and he claimed to have not seen anything, but he's changed his story a few times (researching for a book, working with a charity that combats child abuse, showing that banks were complicit in processing funds for child abuse and that Russians were behind it all) and in his police interview which was on a BBC documentary available on YouTube, he described a few images from whatever websites he saw quite graphically. All I've been able to deduce for certain is that he's an odd duck with a warped mind and tortured soul. Should I do a deep dive of his musical work before he dies?

wtf based

Thoughts on Pete Townshend?

Might be the best songwriter in rock history. Any Who record from 1967 to 1975 is worth listening in its entirety. They peaked with Quadrophenia in the studio and with Isle of Wight live.
This 1968 performance was so good that the Rolling Stones felt completely upstaged and refused to release the footage until 1996

I like how he got caught looking at CP and his defense was

I was just looking for it so I could report it to the authorities

holy fuck this is great

We have a remedy

Little girl guide

Why don't you stop your crying

Here comes Ivor the dirty old sooty engine driver to make you feel alright

Apparently this song is meant to be a metaphor for his experience as a CSA victim, but I can't help but feel that he was doing a bit more than research for that book.

I went into that site just to know how to get out of it

CP is disgusting awful filth. i had to find out what sites it was on so i could be sure i'd never go there

1:28 pete messing up keith's boom mic

kek

that's a blues tune. you'll never guess how i know this

the who were the only "hard" rock band i ever got into, blows the others out of the water

he looks like he did 8 hours straight of cocaine and researching

The Tommy film is such a bizarre fever dream I can't help but love it.

Saw it during my artsy phase in high school and I thought it was a pile of shit, especially compared to the album, Jack Nicholson was absolutely embarrassing

leave Pete alone, he earned those kids!

nah that's jazz blues. or blues jazz as i like to call it

are you Nigel Tufnel?

Well, the guy who wrote it (Mose Allison) was more known for jazz. He just played Blues occasionally.

GOAT!

Not even Sabbath or Zeppelin?

U2's Edge and Pete Townshend are cut from the same cloth. The can create and take a sound never heard before and make it turn into enjoyment and money. It is a gift or talent that no other can do as well.

Should I do a deep dive of his musical work before he dies?

you may as well get through all the big who records either way. I was the classic story of a long haired classic rock guitar middle schooler who branched out as a teen. Going back and combing through all the classic rock stuff I liked as a kid, honestly most of it isn't interesting anymore, but the who definitely holds up. Some of their real early shit is honestly kinda heavy for the time. Tryna look through what kinda pre-metal pre-punk classic rock stuff was sorta heavy, you end finding like blue cheer and the sonics and shit, but the who deserve a shout out there too. Nothing really too harsh or dissonant tho, but if for nothing else it's history you know

great song.

invented the Marshall stack

invented the Marshall half-stack

He gets a pass.

DourCunt.jpg - 900x542, 73.45K

Reminder that he only asked for the half stack to be made because he was too weak to carry the full stack into gigs.

Should I just start with their first album and go from there?

the first 5 up to who's next are def worth scoping. If you don't wanna commit to that you could make do by just getting my generation, who's next, and then a singles comp/greatest hits to cover the basics tho

He had a surprise pop hit in the early 80s youtube.com/watch?v=lw2u3MDBTEM

followed it up with this Talking Heads-ish number youtube.com/watch?v=yiQI2x7RKYM

His demos are renowned for how complete they are compared to the final studio recordings. The other guys in The Who were more or less just session musicians who turned up and played better versions of what Pete had already put down on tape youtube.com/watch?v=75yodhpuvrg

As for the man himself, he seems like a bit of a nutter.

a loaded 4x12 is around 80 lbs. x2 for a full stack is 160 lbs. plus approx 54 lbs for the head. No one is carrying all that into a gig on their own every night, if they can help it.

nope. don't really know why
no but i met him once on a jazz blues festival, or was it a blues jazz festival? he caught me looking at his guitar and promptly chased me away, "you can't look at it, dont do it" he said

COA

He's the reason we got to hear Keith Moon. Highly important person in rock. No Pete Townshend = Keith Moon keeps playing surf rock

mad how he became better looking when he started losing his hair and going all scraggly and gray. went from adam lanza to esteemed gentleman.

Yo, that's the nigga from the Rolling Stones

They call him the researcher
He's researching low and hiiiiiiigh

Yeah we get it guys. Get over it already

Alright mate, how about you stop fighting with Roger and invite Zak back for the final tour?

Miss me with this garbage pedophile boomer music please and thanks
