There's a lineage of atmospheric black metal musicians that stems from Burzum, very often also one-man ones, and here I mean ones such as Paysage d'Hiver and Trhä, but you're right in that no other good BM album I've heard utilizes distortion this heavy. Plus the whole inclusion of that ambient track. That's not really something you'll find on many BM records, and definitely not ones considered classic.
Not really. Varg explicitly doesn't include any of his far-right politics in the music of Burzum. Burzum is about shit like nature, isolation, and Lord of the Rings. It's not even satanic, which is a hallmark of black metal.

I think the problem with people mimicking his style only focus in part of it, they over emphasize the sad part but they're missing the more majestic/nostalgic feel
