Logic, but I fucking hate Apple and refuse to buy another Mac after my last one shat the bed so no longer using it.
Use
Studio One because it's basically bargain bin Logic for Windows. Honorable mention to Audacity and Gleetchlab for just fucking around with noise.
I got a Mac specifically to use Logic and ended up liking Mac more than Windows for 99% of stuff
Windows is so fucking shit, I'll never go back. When I was in my Linux phases I used Reaper
FL Studio got me into production and I still use it but I've been thinking about using learning Ableton because I'll look at guys who do tutorials using it and the work flow looks less convoluted
Logic
I only like Windows for vidya..but I barely even play them anymore.
LMMS
you could buy one used, most macs post 2012 can run the latest OS even if they're not officially supported
is garage band good for someone who has no idea what they're doing but wants to start recording shitty songs and creating drums tracks?
Yeah. Plenty can be done with it. It's not as extensible as a full fledged DAW, but it does the basic job. Then when you think you need to, just upgrade to Logic.
or is it better to just go straight to logic and learn it since you'll upgrade eventually anyway?
If you've never messed with a daw, garage band is still a good way to get acquainted anyhow. Besides, one is free and the other is $200 (not that much, but you could save money for now).
just start with garage band, you'll know if you want to upgrade to logic
Garage Band is basically the tutorial for Logic. It's also actually a perfectly viable DAW, just an exceptionally beginner-friendly one. Once you look past the loops and hand-holding there is actually a versatile DAW in there. Justice and Grimes both actually used to make some of their music in it.
I used Garage Band for like a year before upgrading to Logic and it felt like an extremely natural progression.
Ableton Live. After using FL for almost 3 years, when I used Ableton it was like I had shortness of breath in FL all these years.
audacity
is it any good?
just here to say protools is dog shit
live nigga
was like I had shortness of breath in FL
what does that even mean?
doubt anyone here uses pro tools
I realized in Ableton you can work and apply the idea on your mind much more efficiently, but in FL its like the DAW limits you in every possible way to make things harder.
what instrument do you use? or do you create beats?
I use electric guitar, synth-orchestral-effect plugins etc. virtual instruments with a midi keyboard
i record electric guitar too mostly and i use ezdrummer for drums and i find logic to be really complicated
maybe i just need more time and to get more experienced with it, but i get annoyed at how much shit is on my screen sometimes
It’s the ms-paint of daws
Ableton Live. I tried like 8 or 9 times over the course of 7 years on FL studio. I got a copy of live lite. Tired it, and enjoyed it. The tutorials people made with it, actually made sense and how to do stuff makes sense to me. Because of it. I learned music theory, basics of piano, guitar, and bass. Planning on going more. I got a few more things Ill be working on, then it will be nothing but making songs.
Reznor put out some tracks using it. A long long time ago...
I use something called SAW Studio. It has the best sound of all the daws I tried
i dont use daw i just record into a tascam recorder but i need a new one because my puppy chewed it
Should I get a MAC for music? Idk
Audacity ((HELP ME))
I just record on a portable multitrack then put everything together on Audacity
use logic, fl and ableton and i think theyre all good just for different things. fl is peak for beats and stuff of that nature imo
What’s good for recording some tasty metal licks on my guitar?
over the years ive used fruity loops, ableton, logic, garageband, reason and pro tools. ableton is easily number one for production. reason is the most unique in its workflow.
ive only ever used it in actual recording studios and although looking and feeling a bit archaic it does work reasonably well in that environment. would never use it for anything else though.
the other is $200
It wasn't for me
Reaper and Audacity
Reaper because it's modular and can do everything the others do and more
None
I know Anon Babble is mostly populated by stemcel sperg types, but windows is absolute shit in almost every way. I love Mac and I got logic for it which is great
I've heard driver dependent hardware like audio interfaces enjoy much better longterm support on Mac, if this is true It would be a huge selling point for me
What DAW would you recommend for a tech illiterate phone poster?
Garage Band if Mac (unironically), FL Studio if Windows
Ableton because it looks nice.
REAPER gives me the most control. It's almost like a Linux DAW.
