Analog

you'll understand it when you get older.

I already gave it a go and didn't get it, sure the sound is nice once you have a good set up and the record is VG+ but as long as the music is available to stream or the album is well remastered on CD I don't see the point. The only possible reason I can think of to justify it is buying oddity albums or more obscure stuff that never made it onto streaming or CD.

I already gave it a go and didn't get it

and you never will because you never had to manually beat match

Never said anything about DJ-ing, that's an entirely different thing, an actual skill.

vinyl is amazing but something they don't talk about is that you need a big room in a detached house where you can turn it up loud to properly enjoy it
this filters many

Poorfag detected

I like going to flea markets and buying jazz records. Baffles me why such a harmless hobby creates so much controversy. I wish you faggot zoomers had never discovered analog audio, because you've absolutely fucked the secondary market for records and equipment

Its improving as boomers die off

sounds better than streaming for media that was tracked to tape

I dont even mind the sound of a shitty old beat up record as long as it doesnt actually skip
A shitty old beat up cd or media file is unlistenable, on the other hand

Discogs says my collection is worth $9000

Git gud, OP

Whats your most valuable record

An original 1968 private press of Peter Brotzmann's Machine Gun according to Discogs. The most valuable to me personally is a signed copy of Grant Green's Alive

Nice
I never catalogued mine
Ive been collecting since I was a literal child so I'm sure there are a few that have appreciated some but also Ive had some since I was a literal child and their condition reflects that

Collecting is fucking cringe but wanting your hobby to be off the hands of greedy online corpos is a legitimate goal

Why wouldn't you want books and albums in your house? Is having something framed on your wall fucking cringe too? Having trouble imagining the unadorned prison cells posters ITT live in

dood the 80's haha, nostalgia, you know analog is superior right?

Vinyl was dead by the 80's and it was all cassette and CD

such a forced consoom movement.

Poorly formed strawman, vinyl is more 60s-70s medium and enthusiasts know that

You don’t want to fill your house with soulless corporate goods?

No

dood vinyl is like super premium, expensive to make haha

$300 per metric tone virgin vinyl pellets from china

$0.001 cents worth of vinyl sold for $50

you bought a table??

you know theres trees outside for free!!

strawman

I accept your concession.

Learn what a strawman is before everyone knows your retarded

Owning physical media is based but for fuck sake vinly audio fidelity is a fucking myth and they actively degrade and vent toxic fumes into your house nevermind the horrendous manufacturing process.
If you want to collect crap just buy fucking CDs they're truly losless and you can rip them to your computer as a backup

Vinyl is great when listening to old music and the ritual is pretty fun, but CD completely mogs in every way

bet your house is 50% microplastic lol

It probably is, but pvc and vinyl record manufacturing is one of nastier ones it's like the leaded gasoline of audio storage mediums

they stay in their sleeves most of the time it's really not a big deal

Analog lost its appeal when I listened to Norah Jones - Come Away With Me. At first I was excited to hear it because it has extremely high DR score for a 2002 release (DR 14), but it actually sounds like shit. It's either an analog recording or a convincing simulation of one, because it's full of tape-style hiss and saturation. There's no way this is accidental. If you're producing high dynamic range mainstream music in 2002 you are certainly aware of such things. This makes me think it's genuine analog production and whoever is to blame is proud of this. They probably think the analog flaws are a good thing. It made me feel such a profound sense of disgust that all desire to own analog recording or playback equipment vanished forever.

listens to a vinyl record made in 2000 fucking 2

writes off all vinyl based on experience with that

you're fucking retarded

I listened to the CD version. I imagine the vinyl would have sounded even worse.

oh wow you're incredibly fucking retarded lol

the point of vinyl is it sounds different you fucking mong. it's astonishing how stupid you are

When did I mention vinyl? This is an analog thread, not a vinyl thread. The CD sounds like it was transferred from analog tape. I can tolerate this in older recordings when they didn't have any choice, but this is an album that's clearly aiming for an "audiophile" audience that sounds worse than Dire Straits - Brothers in Arms from 1985. The sound was fucked up before it was ever transferred to a consumer format. CD vs. vinyl won't change that.

it's a vinyl thread.

anyway i'll educate you. the early 2000s were a terrible time for audio mastering. the gear was bad, the dominant tastes were bad. you were hearing the sound of early audio converters and subpart ssl limiting.

now music that was made for the medium (tape to vinyl) was wonderful when experienced in the intended fashion. there is personality and nonlinearities which digital will never capture in analog recordings. whether someone like you is capable of appreciating that is another matter entirely.

listen to miles davis - kind of blue on a record player with proper speakers, then listen to it on a 'lossless' streaming service, or CD. notice how the depth seems to go on forever in vinyl- that's the analog non-linearities. it's a delight which was of course never properly realized but that's okay.

early audio converters

Complete nonsense. We've had excellent ADCs since the 80s.

subpart ssl limiting

The only audible dynamic range compression sounds exactly like analog tape saturation.
None of the flaws I hear are flaws of digital production. The flaws I hear are the flaws of analog reel-to-reel tape recording. If you do this in 2002 it's a deliberate choice.

digital will never capture

You cannot ABX a good digital recording of an analog recording from the original analog recording. 100% impossible.
The streaming service version is probably remastered garbage. Music peaked with late 80s digital production.

you're retarded. the only good adc pre 2000 was the sony and it was not standard. mixes went through ssl which imparted clinical sound

i can pick em out blind 100% of the time. i can pick out different audio converters and different sample rates. maybe you can't but i can.

Every professional ADC from the last few decades is transparent. It's rare to even find consumer grade ADCs with audible flaws now. But even the most expensive analog recording setups you can get have obvious flaws.

different sample rates

There is no reason to ever record at higher than 48kHz. You are not a dog.

look up psychoacoustics. inaudible tones can have psychological effects. it's why analog is superior. there are tests studies etc. which demonstrate the effect of 'inaudible' overtones on conscious perception. always record at the highest sample rate possible.

most adcs suck donkey dick no matter when they were made. getting a premium converter is a matter of taste which obviously most lack entirely.

inaudible tones can have psychological effects

Infrasound can be felt through the skin. Analog is terrible at reproducing infrasound, and in any case hardly anybody has playback equipment for it. Ultrasound can fuck up your playback equipment and introduce audio frequency distortion in an unpredictable way. This is a bad thing. Some analog equipment is capable of recording ultrasound, but it can never be useful musically (distortion can only be musical when it's controlled) so it's always a bad idea to record it in a musical context.

you have no idea what you're talking about

Lmfaoing @ your life

Link one of these “tests”

Everything I said is objectively measurable fact. Watch these:

Oohashi et al. from the Japanese Institute for Multimedia Education. Entitled "High-Frequency Sound Above the Audible Range Affects Brain Electric Activity and Sound Perception"

The tangibility is the allure. I'm not even a vinylfag but jesus christ, how fucking hard is that to understand?

Reminder that RIAA equalization is lossy compression. All vinyl records are encoded with the primitive ancestor of MP3.

CDs are equally tangible and don't sound like shit (unless mastered wrong on purpose, which is unfortunately common).

You are the definition of a mark. It’s a test of 30 people from the year 2000 with inconclusive results. What exactly did you think was so impressive about this study? The title?

i'm the definition of a mark all right. listen i tried to help you better luck with whatever happens next

Cds dont have the durability

Ok faggot lmao. My glucose levels are spiking from these high frequencies I can feel it, but I can’t hear it! It’s worth all the money please believe me guys.

look it's about the quality of reality. something again you would know nothing about. for those that do, it's important. don't worry you're going to die having done nothing.

CDs have more durability than vinyl. I have CDs from the 80s and they still play 100% perfectly. Vinyl degrades with each playback.

Bro this reality quality is bullshit I can feel it in my glucose levels. I genuinely didn’t believe people could be this retarded but I guess someone is falling for those telemarketing scams.

again you're an idiot

A degraded vinyl sounds a bit worse and costs a bit less, a degraded cd is landfill

Yeah that’s not really lining up with the quality of reality on my glucose monitor

again cuz you're retarded

it’s about the hypersonic artifacts read this retarded study

actually it’s about the quality of reality

actually you’re just retarded

Cope and seethe faggot

seriously you're retarded

Noisesome earlet! Bet you're still using organic cochleas to convert sound waves into signals your wrinkly ape brain can understand.

all books and all media are soulless and corporate

speaks more to your bad taste than anything else

[records made of PVC] vent toxic fumes into your house

Zoomies will literally believe anything they hear
