I have never listened to any Jazz, but found myself listening to The Black Saint and the Sinner Lady. It's incredible, and I want to hear more of that kind. Could someone provide me with some more projects like that?
Please recommend some Jazz
Heres a list of good jazz albums:
and thats the end of the list
Charles Mingus has loads of great albums like that.
Mingus Ah Um
Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus Mingus
Let My Children Hear Music
are some of my favourites.
But I'll recommend Ole Coltrane. One of my all time favourites.
of that kind
You mean big band? His album Let My Children Hear Music is somewhat similar, Mingus Ah Um by a smaller band.
you forgot the list
feel free to mock me but genuinely one of my favorites that's not as well known is Bob Acri, who you may recall from one of the default songs in the music folder in windows 7
he was a genius pianist and this whole album is really good
africa/brass
No RYM bold = hack
RYM
who?
RYM sold out, nothing but paid promotions. worthless for any music newer than 2010.
thanks a lot! I'll definitely check them out
I genuinely have no idea about Jazz, and "big band" for example doesn't mean much to me beyond that I assume it is a larger ensemble than in other performances. I will do some reading. I hoped some people more knowledgeable than me could guide me down a path where I could learn more about it. Thank you in any way for the recommendation!
if you liked mingus, you might like dolphy (out to lunch, out there, far cry, iron man). my recs were already doubled by the other anon.
if you're feeling adventurous, try listening to unit structures.
the only good jazz is early jazz
Dixieland
Swing
Big Band
all others are not music

woody, pls
that album is a real outlier, so good luck
Liberation Music Orchestra is good
the list....doesn't go on??
+1 Africa/Brass
go home Albini, you're dead anyway.
Feel free to listen to the rest of his fuKKKing discography, maybe?
I recommend starting with jazz rock to get used to swing, then Brubeck and Guaraldi, and then moving down to bebop. People will “man, Bitches Brew and Love Supreme” but they're like, not accessible and will dissuade you from liking Jazz.
Steve Turre - Rhythm Within
Archie Shepp - Attica Blues Big Band
Wayne Shorter - High Life
Miles Davis - Aura
Dizzy Gillespie - United Nations Orchestra
Hermeto Pascoal - Hermeto
not everyone is a braindead rockist
theres a lot going on in this album and a lot of it is very accessible but the playing never feels boring or like there is a lack of adventure. more accessible bebop stuff is where you want to start imho
lennie tristano - descent into the maelstrom
this is incredible. what the actual fuck
Pharoah Sanders - Karma
I would say this album is like noire/detective Jazz. So listen to albums similar to that.
Was relistening to this. Great fusion of puertorican and brazilian rhythms

buckle the fuck up, OP
I also never really listened to jazz, but iv been looking for chill / somber jazz like 'blue in green' or 'flaminco sketches' from Miles Davis or even like the ost to halo 3: odst. Would highly appreciate any recs.

wayne shorter - night dreamer, juju, speak no evil
Duke Ellington Orchestra - The Blanton Webster Band
I'm gonna assume you're not trolling and say you check out Bill Evans. 'Flamenco Sketches' was actually based on his composition 'Peace Piece':

Other good tracks by him:
'My Foolish Heart': youtu.be
'Alice in Wonderland': youtu.be
'Haunted Heart': youtu.be
'Waltz for Debby': youtu.be
not trolling and this is exactly the kind of thing i was after, thank you anon.

Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus.
Mingus at Antibes.
Eric Dolphy - Out to Lunch.
Take the Dolphy pill.
you already listened to the best album, why bother with more?
Not music.
larping tourist
Outside recommending other Mingus albums this is probably the best advice ITT
