CDs are more rare than vinyl

become a boomer

want to relive the good times

look into buying some CDs after decades

realize that many of my favourites are so rare they go up to £200 a regular version CD

Guys, we need to preserve CDs. You easily find the vinyl versions but CDs' existence is getting in critical levels.
What happened?
I am hurrying up to find all I can from used markets.

They went into space by 2022, by 2030 CDs will be twice or even more valuable than now

Cool, I have about 350.

cds will be twice as valuable

wow they'll be worth 20 cents each?

Nu metal CDs are disappearing. Special editions of metal albums too. Or even regular metal releases from 20 years ago.
At best you find them used at £40.
Pop CDs are trash anyways and there are millions in circulation. They are $0.20 each.

we need to preserve CDs.

Why?

At best you find them used at £40

this is easily proven false with a single ebay search

a lot of CDs have gone out of print recently, even albums by incredibly popular bands.
As a result, they're only available on the second hand market and the prices have skyrocketed.

CDs are far from rare. They're everywhere and they're cheap. Cassettes too.
It's vinyl that gets jacked up to insane prices. The average CD (new) is like $12.

Why buy CDs when you can stream the same quality? It isn't like half speed cut vinyl. Not even those snake oil gold CDs that didn't sound any different than the silver ones but cost a lot more.

CDs objectively have better sound quality than streaming, vinyl can sound "better" with the right setup but a CD is comparable and much cheaper

I work a bench at one of the last remaining vintage audio/visual repair shops. We absolutely get more jobs for CD players/changers/recorders. These people are willing to spend a good amount on service for their units. Turntables I don't see as much because they're mostly mechanical and there's generally less that can go wrong.
But I think about formats as sort of a pendulum swinging. Tapes came back, vinyl came back, so why not the CD? I got rare electronic and industrial shit that's out of print in good condition and they're going for a lot on discogs. Let the market shift.
I'll never forgive manufacturers trying to phase out optical drives in computers and cars.

kek anytime I can't find a rare album on soulseek I go on discogs and its less than $15 with shipping every time. That's my last resort to find anything and it should be yours too. I don't want those things really

I didn't know about discogs. That will help.
It is also a bongland problem.
I see tons of copies of stuff I want in the US.

Does burning CDs lose any fidelity? I realize I can’t own everything on CD (not to mention digital Walkmans are pricey af) so I want to burn my own mixtapes.

Burn slow speeds and don't multitask on Chrome or play games while it burns. Let that be the only thing the PC does.

Why do zoomers ruin everything they touch?

How long would it take to burn 78 minutes worth of music at that rate in your experience?

buying from HMV

You're doing it wrong

Trump won
You will never be a woman
Etc

I hated zoomers before trump, I will hate them after trump.

These particular 3 I had to have them new.
A few albums I have to get them new without cd player marks and Cheetos finger marks.

I don't remember. 15-20 mins.

As someone who collects punk and metal CDs, I can tell you those are by far the most expensive genres of CD since they were usually pressed by specialty/independent labels and are still generally in demand. That said, even the most desirable CDs in those genres seem to cap out at 30-40 bucks. This is nothing compared to other collecting categories like vinyl, comics, toys, video games, etc. It just feels like a lot since were used to paying $2-$5 per CD in 2024.

CDs objectively have better sound quality than streaming

lossless streaming is literally the exact same sound as cd

But I think about formats as sort of a pendulum swinging.

that's because you're a fucking moron
i bet you have lots of equally retarded thoughts in that retard brain of yours

This is such a bad graph, no indication of how vinyl is selling during the cd boom

no it's just you getting blind, the vinyl sales during the CD era are those tiny grey lines at the top

I know, they wont affirm your gender identity so you don't like them.

not quite, the graph doesn't include cassettes although it also doesn't include digital sales, the real low point of the 80s was 1982 which was worse than 2008 and slightly better than 2009

He's done a number on you.

want to relive the good times

setup eMule to look for those nasty 128kbps mp3s dolphin porn

all music is now 24bit FLAC

guys, we need to preserve 128 mp3s. you easli find the FLAC version but 128kb/s mp3s existence is getting in critical levels
what happened?
I am hurrying up to find what I can from p2m rapidshare links

not on soulseek

item not available on discogs marketplace

finally shows up on soulseek after a month of searching

it's in variable bitrate mp3

Ahhhhhhhhh

come back from the local, used kinostore

get all these for £16

It was a good day for physical.

Become a boomer

Want to relive childhood

Torrent files now cost billions of dollars

Just wait until op realizes he can buy a CD burner and cd spindle for 10 dollars

You can't understand the feeling of sitting down, headphones, and holding the printed album with the art and lyrics, looking at it, connecting the music with it.
Burned CDs look awful.

Why can't I understand that? Because you think I'm your age?

We really don't. I understand you're too retarded to actually appreciate music on its own terms and view this as a form of Funko Pop Collecting though.

Delusional

It's all about genre I have found. I got all of justice's discography for like 50$ but I don't think I could even get a copy of Hawaii: Part II on CD

How fucked up is it that millennials are the best generation?

Nickelback

Ruined an otherwise great collection.
Alice in Chains is much superior to that garbage Nickelback shit. Kys.
Early Gen X is the best generation (that is living).

Zoomers and the younger half of Millennials are cattle.
They all suffer from internet and social media brainrot.

Same with boomers.

Correct.
