i wouldn't say they suck, they were extremely influential and innovative for a band that started with a bunch of high school kids. they might seem trite in the modern day when comparing them to the works that were inspired and built on the foundations laid by them, and the post-gabriel pop era of genesis is also kind of boring. but peter really flourished when he went solo, and no one has really been able to be as emotionally resonant as him.
