How long did you take to like metal? Should I give up?

In general, metal is way too emotionally one-note and redundant for me to listen to for a whole album. The artists and albums that aren't like this are almost always criticized as not being "real" metal.
I can definitely appreciate individual tracks though.

Listen to a few different kinds of metal first. Black metal is harder to get into than death metal. BM has the highest highs but your average BM album is both worse than and harder to get into than your average DM album.

Take internet metalheads opinions on albums/bands with a grain of salt they're all geeks. I've been into metal since the early 90's and my #1 album is considered poser shit because one of their songs was in a tony hawk game and they started doing metalcore later on. Listen to the gateway drug stuff and you might develop a taste for the other shit. Or maybe you won't.

what the fuck is that cover supposed to be

Idk, it just clicked when I was a kid. Then I stopped for a while and went through many phases. Somehow, after I started listening to classical music I picked up metal again because I just really like how heavy, dark, and textural it can be. Certain genres, I mean, I like black metal, some death doom, Celtic Frost, stuff like that. I'm not too crazy about power metal or whatever.

Make then suffer new album

i thought he meant just extreme metal.
true listen to sabbath and metallica and shit like that first.

I got into it very young and it was instantaneous. I heard iron maiden hallowed by thy name and I immediately knew it’s the kind of music for me. Don’t start with bands like Burzum, start with the originators.

yeah, I didn't think someone would go from never having heard Metallica to listening to Burzum lol

Slipknot and Deafheaven are good gateway bands

Ok zoomer

That seems something a stupid kid would be very likely to do

read that as another word and was confused why you were bringing jews into this

gayway bands

Don't start with black metal. It's hard to get into for most people. Try thrash

When I started listening to extreme metal, my first impression was "it's okay, but I'm not crazy about it". Then I relistened to some of the albums, picked up on more things, and started to enjoy it a lot. Filosofem is one of those albums that despite its extreme harshness and experimental nature I managed to get into fairly quickly. Try picrel. I used to dislike death metal, but I liked this album the first time I heard it, and my enjoyment has only grown since.

Dont "try" to get i to a genre. You dont have to like stuff.

Anyways i started with nu metal as a teen then got into extreme metal and doom metal. At the time i was just really into anything wild. All that stuff was. Then as i grew up i didn't want wild and i wanted stuff that had more to it than just the most extreme of anything. And i narrowed down my taste using streaming radio like last fm and now Spotify.

play Vice City with the V-rock station playing until you like it

i like listening to filosofem at the gym. Haven't found any other metal albums that give me the same stimulation, but i haven't looked very hard.

Try picrel. Just be warned that it's extremely abrasive. But if you manage to get passed it, you'll be left with an extremely brutal, monstrous, and manic sounding record. I actually used to absolutely hate it for the longest time, until one day on of the relistens it clicked hard, and since then it's become my most listened-to album of all time.

shoegaze is a kind of metal literally HAHAHAHAHAHAHA disorganized metal exists every FAKE MUSIC NEWS ARTICLE is getting sent through chemical vats

Even the harsher stuff on Filosofem has a soothing quality to it

similar stimulation as far as the ambient repetitive parts go:

There's so many types of metal. Try different genres. Even try nu metal to ease your way into it. Jumping right into extreme stuff like black and death metal might turn you off. A lot of people that like metal can never get into harsh growling vocals

I realize this term gets thrown around a lot here but you're not going to like shit like pure black metal unless you're autistic. There's a reason why some metal subgenres are extremely underground and only listened to by very weird guys. Metal is a huge genre and there's plenty of variety within the genre outside of objectively horrible shit like Burzum. Remember where you are also when you see people discussing these bands and that metal fans can be some of the most aggressively hipster music communities in the way they constantly try to one up each other with how obscure and unlistenable their "favorite" bands are.

If you asking specifically for black metal recs then feel free to disregard, otherwise here's a sampling of stuff I like from various metal subgenres:
Melodic death:

Symphonic death:

Folk:

Even try nu metal to ease your way into it.

And then continue listening to it because it's based

there's only a handful of good metal and the rest the fans go all in because of autism

lolwut
You've written your post as if getting into a music genre is a task. Forcing yourself to like something is pointless. Listening to something until it 'clicks' works for an album/artist, not an entire genre...if you've spent a month listening and still don't like anything, just don't bother

that applies to basically every genre of music

this is what every Ghost song sounds like to metal purists

I started with tamer bands like sabbath, metallica, slipknot and it helped to be an edgy teen. I'll listen to metal but it isn't my main genre of choice anymore. Don't force it, try different styles and genres. Try alternative metal, classic heavy metal, metalcore, and melodic death metal.

Burzum is easy listening compared to anything off Iowa

Burzum might be the exception but black metal as a whole is purposefully inaccessible and abrasive. Like if someone wanted to try spicy ramen and you give them the spiciest ramen noodle challenge on the first bowl. Later slipknot might be a bit easier to get into.

OP here, I know all these but thanks either way

Dont "try" to get into a genre.

I'm doing it for my own entertainment, some things are acquired tastes, the same way you don't like alcohol or coffee at first. I didn't like reading now it's my favorite thing to do, etc.

Black metal is harder to get into than death metal.

I don't think so. It rather depends on what you prefer - atmosphere or groove. Especially with blackgaze or atmo bm it's pretty easy to get into bm.
