What are some covers that aren't just straightforward replays and add something new to the rendition? I recently stumbled across picrel, never could I have imagined that you could cover a track off Kid A so imaginatively and beautifully
"clever" covers
I Am Hated For Loving by Morrissey Xiu Xiu cover. Recontextualizes the lyrics in an interesting way, makes the song sound much more desperate and disturbed.

I liked the Wall of Voodoo cover of Ring of Fire.

There's this industrial metal cover of army of me which uses the bass line as its foundation

Which is actually a very different cover of Dylan's original version.
Another Dylan cover
Sturgill Simpson’s cover of In Bloom is a superb example of this imo. He tweaked the lyricism and changed the instrumentation enough to truly make it his own. Honestly, I think it’s better than the original. youtu.be
More songs should've been Oingo Boingo'd

There's this death metal cover of killing an arab

Genre switch-ups in general, e.g. this Wilderun cover of Radiohead's "Everything In Its Right Place":
Not as creative as the above Punch Brothers cover, but still decent. They any good, worth checking out?
Not really, no. They barely even have a discography as is. I randomly came across them one day when browsing the depths of YouTube looking for Radiohead covers. I mean something like this strikes me as fairly unremarkable:

When I do listen to Metal these days it's either still boilerplate stuff stuff like CC, SFU and so on or eclectic pants-on-head-retarded chaos à la Igorrr.
Jeff Buckley did some interesting covers
In turn, the Punch Bros did some interesting Jeff Buckley covers as well
I guess you aren't a fan of prog metal like Opeth then
unironically listening to SFU
kek
unironically NOT listening to SFU
Yikes. Also
implying this isn't peak groovy Death Metal
5/10 not enough EEEEEEE

i love cover songs that are pretty much making fun of the original song
Opeth
Dunno, musically some of their songs are decent but I can't stand their clean vocals. This isn't a general thing though, I do like 'em in bands such as Dark Tranquillity for instance (or, to tick you off even more, early Bullet For My Valentine). As for Prog Metal as a whole, there are some bands I listen(ed) to, e.g. August Burns Red or Animals as Leaders. On the regular though there's only really The Faceless right now ... if you wanna count them. Planetary Duality I and II are still some of the nastiest songs out there if you ask me:

I genuinely like his EEEEEEs. The ones on their TNT cover are legendary:

Speaking of Barnes, the album he did with Torture Killer is an absolute gem:

So many good songs on there, even the eponymous instrumental one.
Rage Against the Machine renegades album has several especially those rap covers. Always loved their kicked out the jams rendition but it's not that different
Wow, that's awful, anon.
why is everyone so dismissive on here now? what do you want me to pretend i listen to shit i don't?
No. Why would that be your take-away from my reply? I just opined that the track you posted sounds like crap. I mean what is all that shit in the background? This is like noise music except if noise just didn't give a fuck about musicality at all and just added actual noise for the heck of it.

Don't be such a baby. I like butthole surfers but you're giving them a bad name by being a faggot when someone shits on them
now
i'm sorry i meant the last 11 years.
this isn't industrial metal. using keyboards doesn't make you "industrial"
that's all the tape vocal effects. it's a psychedelic effect.
it's a consistent pattern i tell ya. there is some kind of pop music mafia that intentionally derails any discussion of music they consider "scary" or "abnormal". they made that copypasta, killed the concept of Anon Babblecore, are probably responsible for the nico sperg, etc.
unbelievably bad taste
Also, Tool, obviously. Duh.
Yours? Yeah, probably. Go ahead and share it so we can judge.
apparently I liked it too
It's an awful effect is what it is.
Whatever makes you happy
