I love metal
Just finished. It feels like they're aiming for the relative mainstream, not just on the alleged "no overtly NS themes" front, but with the prolonged song lengths that may exist to get the most out of streaming revenue, and of course the music itself. The atmosphere and mournful melodies of Kultur are dialed up a bit, but with less of Nordhauk's (or whoever's singing now) vocal theatrics from that album. It has little of the malevolence that's found in Natur or that characterizes much of black metal.
It's a solid but less inspired expansion pack of sorts to the Kultur sound. I prefer my reaching for the mainstream albums named Ultra spelled with a V.

Failures bridges HIA and CTAWB, being more of the last album but hinting at what would come
another creative leap with Close to a World Below, very focused on narrative song structures, has explosive drumming, apocalyptic atmosphere, isn't a concept album but FEELS like one, about as dissonant as death metal gets before bordering on Gorguts/Portal territory
Unholy Cult being Close with more of a focus on guitarwork and writing individual songs
Immo channels their style into more accessible but still quality death metal with Harnessing Ruin onward

I love Dawn of Possession but do not care for Here in After or Failures for Gods. Everything after that is good to great.
We play this tauntingly at our other band members when they break a string or a head and need a minute or two after a song to get things in order. It works really well in a thrashy death context.
