/prog/ - Progressive rock general

no homo edition

What would be homo prog then???

marillion, steven wilson, that kind of thing

This cover is better than the original.

it only works if you know the original. think about it.
Woul dhave been good to have on the inside sleeve of DSOTM or something, but without the coloured rfracted light on the other side as a reference, OP's pic kind means nothing, it;s just graphic design because nothing indicates that's that's a prism

What's some prog for sex havers like Roxy Music?

King Crimson 80s

what a sorry face
why is he in a bathroom?

it actually makes more sense because colors don't exist.

is that anthony kiedis?

stop making a mockery of this guy's death, what the fuck is wrong with you?

prog for thinking fellers?

Where can I download DVD rip footage of Magma concerts, like the Ëmëhntëhtt-Ré Trilogie?

rutracker

Neat.

call me retarded but were voivod really big enough to get a game?

I'm not gonna call you retarded but aesthetically I definitely see it working. Voivod had, if anything, really cool art and characters.

Quintus

I don't know. It does really look like someone's passion project, doesn't it? Maybe someone in the dev team pitched it to them personally and they agreed to colab.

maybe five of those are prog at most. also it's ice death

I'll never forgive him for what he did to based Wyatt

thoughts on KEOKEANJI HYEAKKUEI?

sorry, i meant KOENJIHYAKKEI also known as KOENJI HYAKKEI for some reason.

When did you realize Dream Theater are actually really good?

I didn't. Where do I start?

GET OFF MY ASS
YA WEE BITTY FUCK

Images and Words

Dream Theater

kek, a truly awful band.

Both siddessss of the story
BOTH SIDESSSSS OF THE STORY YEAHHH

I think Tool are alright
Yes, I know their fanbase is full of pretentious retards
Yes, I know Maynard is a childish cunt

Roger hates Jews.

Dad rock prog is shit. Floyd is shit. Zeplin is shit. Rush is shit. Etc

Is this where I start with Brian Eno

Yes

I THINK MUSIC FOR AIRPORTS SUCKS

alright alright after many years of neglect, Collins-era Genesis is starting to click with me. I really like Duke, what do you guys like?

hey watch it your tone buddy!

Thank you for your worthless post, friend.

I must be filtered. This sounds like ass.

Pretty much as soon as I was born. The piano lead from Wait for Sleep is practically burnt into my brain, when I revisited the album and got to the song it was like getting struck by lightning. Thanks dad.

Don't give up Anon.
If you don't off yourself you too can fuck Kate Bush.

I figured there at one time early in the history of Anon Babble was a post numbered 90125. Tried searching but the archive doesn't go back that far.

90125.jpg - 1425x1425, 174.23K

honestly it's kind of a mediocre ambient album, it is a masterpiece though, if only because of how influential and important it was, but Discreet Music, Evening Star, On Land, The Pearl, Apollo & Thursday Afternoon are all better.

digits

It would be criminal for me to not listen to this

No. Start with the Portsmouth Sinfonia

Shan't be listening. Brian Eno sucks balls.

HCWJ is a great answer but if you don't quite "get it", maybe you need to go back further to Roxy Music (which actually IS prog at least the early era) featuring eno working behind the scenes to set atmosphere with his weird methods rather than being the frontman (reserved by another bryan)

uk chart.jpg - 1241x712, 109.13K

What did he do to Wyatt?

We should've spammed it to the top. It doesn't take much to get a #1 debut in the UK.

Carti wins again.

It will click. Just give it a chance.

Thank you to the Canadian who is seeding this beautiful beast.

For a prog album in 2025, is still impressive

Anybody know a good thread for Music ID’ing? I have this mystery song from “The New York Ripper” 1982 that plays at a sex club here, plot relevant and not listed in the ending credits/any soundtrack release, Sounds like it has too high production to be a low effort one off and the lyrics are a bit hard to understand, anybody wanna look?
files.catbox.moe/b3kpgl.mp3 With BG noises filtered out
files.catbox.moe/wcf13b.mp3 Original volume from film, may have details missed by the edit but is quieter
Sorry about the annoyance

shut him down and ultimately fired him from the band he helped create over petty reasons

Brian Eno is prog rock? Never would have guessed.

everything is prog rock except prog metal

Am I prog rock?

Well, are you prog metal?

Well my friends call me a tool :(

Tool is actually Prog Rock with post-metal influence, not prog metal

Huh. Honestly didn't expect to learn anything after making a shitty tool pun.

Funny thing with jazz is how there are different solo albums with the exact same crew. Unclear why or how they pick who’s the leader

Usually the leader just wrangles together as many of his friends as are available to form a combo, or the producer sets them up. They have different working bands for live shows.

Glam/art rock then shitty ambient

You chickenshit. You’re a criminal. You’re gonna be in jail tonight you piece of shit.

this album is so goofy yet strangely beautiful at times. magma is such a trip as a first time listener. seems to me so far you're guaranteed to get something cool and memorable with each record no matter what.
thank you /prog/ for introducing me to these madlads

Bad album art

folder.jpg - 1417x1417, 807.98K

Tool is progressive post-grunge

I like Tool. Perhaps the only palatable progressive metal I actually enjoy.

caring about charts in 2025

It's actually pretty impressive for a prog album in 2025 to chart this high. I haven't listened to the album (mostly because I hate Steven Wilson for his many, many shitty remixes of classic albums), but it is still impressive to be that high on the charts.

Not true

hard prog rock + krautrock

This album is so fucking good man

thoughts on Neptunian Maximalism?

Kōenjihyakkei vs Kōenji Hyakkei?

They lose me the second the stupid black metal shrieking starts - no wait that’s oranssi pazuzu… or both?

I regret not buying this the other day when I saw it for like $12.

It does feel like it's missing something but if any other band besides Floyd released it it would be considered a forgotten masterpiece.

This is still the blind spot in my Pink Floyd knowledge

It's alright. First two tracks are incredible but so misleading because it just turns into formless drone nonsense for 90% of it's runtime. Could have been one of the coolest zeuhl albums ever if it kept up the momentum of the first two tracks.

I don't think there's really any black metal shrieking in that album.

Just listened to Red for the first time. It's good. Very good.

Much better than Pourt of the Crimshit. Ping. Less of the faggy flutes and shit, more ominous sounding metal stuff. Very good. Very, very good

kys

No I won't kill myself

Ok have a nice day

Its 8.30pm here. Thanks for the sentiment nevertheless

people who hold this opinion do not like prog

what is "liking prog" anyway

I think a good barometer is liking the grandfather of prog rock and one of the finest pieces of prog rock ever made

I genuinely don't understand hearing I Talk To the Wind and not instantly realizing you're listening to a peak human creation

Whatever you say big man

throws the studio disc in the bin

now this is a bloody fine pf release, innit?

Its gay music for women. Flute is the most homosexual instrument you can play. Probably imagine themselves slurping on a dick when they play it

Yeah I already got that from but it doesn't answer the question

Prog liker here
Lark's, Red, Discipline, etc >>> Itchy Cock, Poseidon, Lizard

ascended.jpg - 416x327, 29.8K

So did we ever decide on which Touhou is the /prog/hu? I think Ran is the proggest.

Difficult question, there are canonical sources (album arts, promotional graphics) supporting both.

Listened to The Wall in it's entirety for the first time. God damn it's good.

Roger you post on 4channel?

I could never get into it. I've tried many times at many points in my life because while I love PF, The Wall has just always felt too bloated. There's a good album in there but as a whole it's never done it for me. I'd put it towards the bottom half of Floyds discography.

Unironically you might (((get))) it eventually. I never understood what was so great about it until like 2 decades after I first heard it the first time. Truly an impressive feat.

I may watch the film tonight. I have nothing else to do and I'm already kinda drunk.

The live album is good too (maybe even better).

music is great on there

i used to watch the movie all the time when i was young, it's a bit baffling to think about now. but i think i connected through the movie more than the album

Roger is exclusively Anon Babbleestine.

Is it prog?

file.jpg - 300x300, 50.94K

it's Superprog - Prog of the Century

used to be that was the other album than Dark Side Of The Moon they used in hi-fi stores to show off speakers and amps

B-B-B-BUT MUH LYRICS!

it's surreal seeing the movie after only listening to the album on its own for so long.... i think im gonna keep doing that, this was lame as fuck lol

it's close to being perfect. i cannot understand why they cut hey you. not only is it the best track after comfortably numb, it's pretty relevant to the plot as well.

There is a movie adaptation of an IQ's album but I don't know if it's any good

Acknowledge Kansas

Kansas, like Foreigner or Journey, is a great band but definitely not prog

More evidence that zeuhl is not a real genre.

Kansas and early Journey are undeniably prog. Foreigner was never prog.

favourite prog song?

definitely Any Way You Want It

Foreigner

great

Also Kansas is prog

Steven Wilson's japanese gf doing a couple ad-libs on Stupid Dream is way more prog than any of these whores

the truth is they were all geniuses, syd too
I remember when Richard died it was the final end of Pink Floyd, not that they had been anything in decades
but was nice Nick, David, and Roger acknowledged the end
I love the entirety of them from the mid 60s to early 90s live. The variety, innovation, and professionalism throughout is to be commended

Proggybumps and listenin to League of Gentlemen

BALLY HOO!

file.png - 592x612, 469.49K

This
Pink Floyd was the sum of its parts, not just a "creative genius" doing all the work.
The best proof of this is their solo discographies. None of them ever made anything as relevant as what they did with when they were working together.

Why does Steven Wilson make Anon Babble seethe so much?

I watched The Wall last night on an anons recc here
I dont know if I liked it or hated it but I did enjoy the movie more than the album

why are we not talking about King Crimson? what the fuck happened to this general?

Why do you care so much? Who really gives a fuck?

It's just weird some people hate on him so much
He's kinda pretentious but his music is not

Based. Queens will play and Bright Lights are also peak

some Porcupine Tree albums are good but most of his solo shit is just >muh technicality with no soul or emotion, and i hate shitting on things for being technical, but in this case it's justified, same for Marillion or any other nostalgia prog band, it's funny, cause the same hipster types that shit on ELP for being "technical wankery" will like Steven Wilson, at least ELP had some emotion and their music was somewhat unique.

It's just weird some people hate on him so much

Welcome to the world, anon.

I think only Grace For Drowning and parts of Raven are overly technical, he has also made like 3 prog pop albums now

Also speaking of wankery, have you listened to The Aristocrats with Govan and Minnemann? It's pirely technical but in a fun playful way

They hate on him because he is popular, same with Opeth, Dream Theater and Tool

We talked about king crimson for months on end. It's time for a change.

DEX IS SETH

I've got wild staring eyes

Suspiria, any Werner Herzog film you can find, Mädchen Mit Gewalt, spaghetti westerns
Solaris is superb, I love it

This board is known for having shit taste in music

Hating SW is just a trend that has been around for decades.
Do think much about it and just ignore them...

This is how Steven Wilson haters looks like btw

pervert.jpg - 686x386, 30.75K

Steven Wilson raped my album mixes.

He doesn't have enough "street cred" (ask the blacks in your neighborhood what that is).

He is respected by a lot of classic prog artists and collaborated with Fripp or Ian Anderson

Ask the blacks in your neighborhood how they feel about Fripp or Ian Anderson.

what do the blacks in my neighborhood think of Kōenjihyakkei?

The blacks said you're a faggot.

dey fuck wit it fr fr

Now that we can't say Animals is the best Floyd album which one /prog/¿

Wall 2nd half > WYWH > Meddle > Wall >= Dark Side > Wall 1st half > Animals
But skipping the setup doesn't make The Wall better so Wish You Were Here is the better overall album
And Echoes their best song

But Animals is the best Pink Floyd animal.

Roger is a better animal (horse)

Wall 2nd half

But the first is better?

first half is better in singles but i have yet to find a double album with pay-offs as satisfying as the wall's 2nd half, it's what makes the small interludes worth it and ties the whole thing together

pretty much every double album i've heard is worth it's length

really now? keeping it prog, tales from topographic is just 4 songs and 666 has a couple of callbacks tacked on all the seats were occupied
both are great and are also "worth their length" in my opinion but it's not the same you know

not the same as what?

it's like every song, apart from providing context are also building up to the breakdown that will happen in the second half. so in other albums if you take out a song you could make it worse by messing up the pacing or missing lore but you could also make it better subjectively if you think it's unimportant or filler. in the wall i feel like if you take out a song the wall is gonna be missing bricks by the time it all comes crumbling down
it's hard to explain

It almost makes it the whole way, but unfortunately runs out of steam after Slippermen.

it falls off immediately after disc 1.

Disc 2 > Disc 1

side 4 > side 1 > side 2 > side 3 (3 is still really good though)

Superlambp.png - 1000x1000, 577.09K

please don't post that stuff on my comfy prog thread man
but Koenjihyakkei is amazing. i think it's the best Yoshida's ever done which is saying something
favorite tune from them?

Burning Bridges is phenomenal. Wish Rick had more leads

Stay is also fantastic.

What is Kita doing?

frippertronics

holy shit, it's.. it's...

Merci_Magma.jpg - 300x300, 39.18K

shit

shit

recommend me some really obscure Prog albums, like shit literally nobody has ever heard.

Dark Side Of The Moon by Pink Floyd

wow thanks, never heard of this band.
now this is exactly the type of shit i was looking for, thanks.

i think country is better than prog

which country?

country rock

never heard of a it, where is it located?

you should try Prog Country then.

any Country-Zeuhl?

i posted this a few threads back, i found it first.

any /prog/ bands with heavy distorted bass like in Wetton era KC or Magma's Udu Wudu? currently listening to The Great Deceiver live albums and this shit is tastyyyy
pic unrelated

Ruins, Korekyojinn, Univers Zero

anything similar to 2010s Swans but prog?

decent.

OOH OOH BABY

Long Island, NY

Oh neat, someone else from NEO. Hello fellow 330 friend.

well fuck me for leaving my house to go see a Genesis tribute band

opens with some of their 1983 album

"ok guys we know some of you want to hear it - we got some deep cuts for you!"

proceeds to play One for the Vine off Wind & Wuthering

ok ok not bad I prefer Trick of the Tail for my Collins but OK

proceeds to play a shit load of Abacab and Invisible Touch

"ok now some of you anons may remember this but there's actually a guy Peter Gabriel that was previously in Genesis"

oh thank fuck they're gonna go right into Watching of the Skies or some cool shit

proceeds to play Solsbury Hill

fripp.png - 783x798, 585.47K

Did anyone around you look displeased?

Kek

na people had a great time honestly, the crowd really enjoyed it. what've I've learned about this kinda stuff is that I need to learn to appreciate these tribute bands since once the 60 years olds pass away the tribute bands will die out with them. The only way I can experience live Yes, Genesis, Steely Dan etc is through these tribute bands so beggars can't be choosers and I'll take what I can get. I'm just being silly to get some (You)s, it was a good show but god damn I do NOT like any Genesis after Duke and that has been reinforced

peter.png - 366x490, 539.42K

Should watch Musical Box (the band) if they play near you. They pretty much only play Gabriel Era stuff with the original props.

thanks I saw them hell over ten years ago at one of the this Yestival and they were great. I've come to appreciate Genesis even more since then so I need to see them again. That Yestival was awesome by the way. why can't we get more stuff like this? I wonder if Cruise to the Edge is still a thing - a cruise ship with smelly prog nerds? sign me up

yestival.png - 679x852, 771.32K

Great Italian zeuhl right there.

I'd recommend Dün and Potemkine
Also, it's worth listening to Magma's live album Bourges, 1979. The bass on there is killer.
