Why isn't Lady Gaga as popular as Taylor Swift? She actually as memorable songs that everybody knows.
Why isn't Lady Gaga as popular as Taylor Swift? She actually as memorable songs that everybody knows
*sigh* again, popularity and pecuniary success in the music industry have nothing to do with anything related to music itself.
Why is this so hard to grasp?
because right after TF/TFM she came up with out of touch stuff like Artpop and other dogshit
she fumbled it all by herself
why isn't Five Guys as popular as McDonald's? Their burgers and fries are much better
it does for who is at the top. Your logic only applies to up-and-coming artists.
when was the last time she had a solo hit? there is your answer
she was great at coachella though
She tried to ape Madonna or just bet too hard on one fanbase, and attempted to capture the gays with BTW, but alienated the more important fans. (Notice how taytay never made explicit anthems, she's just leaned support, hinted, and teased sapphistry)
Then alienated even more with Artpop, which cemented her career flop. And now she's stuck in former popstar hag purgatory, but without the previous career peak to carry her into older age. Also, she maybe went a little too hard on the occult stuff which probably melted her brain a bit.
I liked Chromatica, but Mahem felt too much like her trying to lamely re-capture the magic of her golden era.
actual music applies even less for who is at the top.
It's the music BUSINESS, not MUSIC business.
I don't get what's so difficult to understand here. It's not that financial success and popularity in the music business is mutually exclusive to musical talent/ability/songwriting/performance, it's that they literally have nothing to do with each other.
her coachella set was off the chain. What an amazing performance; I'm not even that big of a fan and was still impressed.
LGBT stuff isn't popular with moms and dads, for obvious reasons.
or with girls really, since it's heavily associated with uggos and crazies.
well I'm going off who is coming to the shows. The only thing that matters for that is how many good songs you have and your overall artistry. The business doesn't matter for that. Gaga has better songs that everybody recognizes and puts on a better show. Swift has been criticized for not having any songs that everybody knows. So it would assume that Gaga should be playing stadiums like Swift does but she doesn't.
her coachella performance reminded me of BTW and i forgot how decent of an album it was. It wasnt as big as those two previous ones but fuck everything she did after was bleak
she never heavily pushed that stuff like people do now. She basically just said that she supports them and that's it.
Lady Gaga is "Not Safe for Work"
This is a huge limiting factor on her commercial reach
White women prefer mediocrity
Because Taylor swift is the music industry.or some shit like that. to be honest outside of "you belong with me" and "look what you made me do" i cant remember any taylor swift songs right now.
Lady Gaga is the 3rd most streamed artist on Spotify right now. Retard
The only thing that matters for that is how many good songs you have and your overall artistry.
No. you still don't get it.
Eddie van Halen's dad said it the best, "people don't come to hear the band, the come to SEE the band".
It's an event, people want to go there, see and be seen. that's it.
people don't come to hear the band, the come to SEE the band
that just proves my point better then. Gaga is a way better performer and puts on a better show so she should be more popular.
I hate Taylor Swift
that's just because of the bruno mars song and she isn't playing sold-out stadium shows like Swift is. Her new album isn't breaking records like Swift was either.
I've heard lots of lectures from industry people (and industry wannabes), self-appointed experts on "artistry" and "musicianship", desperately trying to tie popular success to those very subjective qualities.
It's like getting a lecture in culinary arts from a night-shift manager at McDonald's. "oh you're a chef? you think you make good food? where's YOUR Big Mac? where's YOUR quarter pounder with cheese?"
Literally have heard "oh you think you make good music? where's YOUR dark side of the moon?" in the river of offal issuing forth from said self-appointed experts.
Gaga is a way better performer and puts on a better show
totally subjective. And has nothing to do with popular success. You're just mad because your tastes and preferences aren't as popular as you think they should be. Cry more about it.
Multinational asset holding firms like BlackRock and Vanguard are major shareholders in all of the 3 major record labels (Warner, Universal, Sony), who in turn own most of the subsidiary labels that release all the music available in the market. These firms have massive contracts with the US government and own the infrastructure behind the American prison industrial complex and its involvement in the Middle East conflicts. These firms engage in widespread social engineering and profit from fanning the flames of the modern culture wars.
The music that they push with their funding decisions has nothing whatsoever to do with talent or artistry, and has everything to do with political and demographic manipulation. The music industry is nowhere near as profitable as it was before the streaming era, but it is still as influential as ever among youth. Firms like BlackRock and Vanguard are more than happy to invest their capital into directing the behavior and spending patterns of young people everywhere even if they’re not selling millions of albums anymore.
this. exactly this.
It's called the Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, but really it's just the Science of Business. (Like college degrees - you get a Bachelor of Arts in Music, Bachelor of Science in Business).
Case in point: if the Grammys actually meant anything except "oh you sold a lot and made people really rich", then when they took the Grammy away from Milli Vanilli, they would've given it to the guys who actually sang the songs.
‘Abracadabra’, her solo song is at #20 in Billboard Hot 100 right now
I understand where you're coming from, but the problem is people like you think that popular music is just pure marketing and that's it. One artist is better because of marketing and that's it. It's a combination of both marketing and putting out good stuff.
investment companies make investments
incredible, also:
The music industry is nowhere near as profitable as it was before the streaming era
time to update the pasta
that graph says global and is only going up because of third-world countries having more access to music.
She actually as memorable songs
and they're all from 2008-2009, Taylor has 18 years of hit albums/songs while Gaga has 3, simple as
This thread wouldn’t exist in the first place if people would actually bother looking up now she’s doing right now, it’s just a “Why isn’t X like Y” shit thread
nope, 95% of revenues are still coming from developed markets, and it doesn't matter anyway since the top artists are all on US labels
Lady Gaga is doing pretty well right now
Why isn't she as popular as Swift?
UMMM ARE YOU STUPID? SHE JUST ISN'T OK! DON'T MAKE DUMB THREADS!
The real reason is that she wants to have zero spotlight on her. She started getting into more witch craft and magic so she's simply just trying to go off radar since it'd interfere with it
because little girls want to be Barbie doll and not hideous Jewish hag
only fags like Gaga
Her music isn't as good
Anything in the Billboard top 40 is a "Hit" song
Gaga's entire new Album has charted
Not just the singles
Swift is lowest common denominator Gaga isn't. Simple as. Gaga has spent her career courting various audiences and so is widely respected. Her primary fanbase however is a bit more niche. In fact she's only now back on top by returning, or even having pandered to that niche audience of girls and gays
Swift on the other hand nailed the most marketable demographic (white women) and her success reflects that.
Taylor Swift is for teenager girls, she makes about ex bfs and breakups.
Lady Gaga is for fags, she makes for partying/gay clubs.
Everyone’s happy but the spotlight is on Gaga now.
Lady Gaga promotes Race Mixing
I just think the quality of music people tend to enjoy now sucks. There are simpler melodies and it's mostly beat driven. Even with a guitar playing musician like Taylor, it seems like there isn't much going on. I haven't heard much Taylor Swift, but what I have heard doesn't even have much melody. Try to hum Shake It Off. There isn't much there and the Chorus isn't much different than the verse. She doesn't seem different than a lot of other stuff out there. Gaga is almost like an 80s artist. Has a knack for hum-able melodies and ear worms. But people must not be into that. They're completely wiggerfied at this point. Or if it's rock even, it's still beat heavy ooga booga chugg shit. Still wiggerfied.
She basically stopped making the music lady gaga was known to be and flew to hollywood to get a free oscar
This, i put her in the place katy perry is right now
She's more successful artistically, she has an academy award, she does more varied nad interesting things
swift just churned out the same garbage over and over and over and over
