Am I finally out of touch and old or has music objectively gotten worse in the 2020s?
Am I finally out of touch and old or has music objectively gotten worse in the 2020s?
both can be true
neither
you're a zoomer and music is just as bad as it ever was
no, music has objectively gotten worse in the 2010s as proven by picrel
but seriously, the answer is
These are not at all exclusive statements.
you stopped smoking weed/doing drugs as you got older. now music is flat and stale
Music is objectively worse.
personal streaming has les to less communal experience of music and the dissolution of ‘scenes’, exacerbated by covid
obsession with nostalgia has resulted in stagnation and bland rehashes of the past
overproduction, increasing focus on ‘vibes’ instead of hooks and anthems
Id say I'm pretty young and in touch, and music in the 2020s is definitely worse than before. The mainstream has nothing good, the underground only has a handful of good bands that still are nothing compared to bands of the past.
That might have some truth to it
Music has always been mostly bad, you're just remembering the good shit.
Look up charts for the most popular music of random years from each decade - then compare it to what people now consider to be the best songs of each decade. Often it'll be shit you've never heard of whereas the music that is now considered "iconic" for the decade might not even make it on the charts for the year it debuted.
OP definitely gives off old man yells at clouds energy, but I don't think music is any worse than it was say 30 years ago.
If anything, music is arguably better since instruments are cheaper and more varied than ever (even with the new tariffs on Chineseium), digital software is highly accessible, there are literally millions of tutorials, guides, and videos on how to play instruments and compose music by talented musicians and audio techs from all over the world, and there are so many ways to get your music out there without having to go through a record label.
Although I guess you could also argue that a lower barrier of entry also allows for significantly more slop to be pumped out, so maybe it's just a toss-up.
It has been obvious since before this decade began but there will always be people behind the curve
yes unfortunately
yes and no. Stuff on the top charts always sucked, but I personally feel like it became a bit "lazy" with the production. Some stuff off charts is really good and the underground artists can also be extremely good in comparison with the tops
Literally 0 (zero) new genres in the 20s
Literally 0 (zero) new scenes in the 20s
Why did you expect?
youtu.be
There's some good disco shit
personally I am a fan of 90s vocal acts. there arent as many unfiltered excellent singers these days. hes not wrong about autotune making it easy street to produce stuff
Literally wrong (wrong)
how is that hyper different from average trance?
Higher bpm
More melodic (and usually more upbeat)
Heavier use of specific instruments like piano
Harder with breakcore elements
Y2K nostalgiabait sounds
Might just be some bit rot in your mp3s
Rage
Windmill Scene
Nope it's the worst it's ever been
Speak for yourself faggot
Windmill doesn't count. HexD, Rage, Sample Drill, Sexy Drill, Digicore, Sigilkore, Krushclub. All fucking garbage. Creation is happening but it's all shit
i guess you're young, it's been getting worse since the late 1990's
objectively
childish take
listen to nothing 1970's music, any kind, for a month
then suddenly start listening to nothing but 2000's music, or 2020's
big difference
Digicore
God. It's like 2010's youtuber video game music. Absolutely cringe and lathered under 20 bajillion layers of irony.
They don't even sing anymore. Rap shit aside, even in regular pop songs, they'll hit maybe four notes the entire song and essentially just rhythmically talk. Taylor Swift is one of the guiltiest examples.
Most music made now is just a rehash of what was made 10 years ago.
Record companies are too scared to give new innovative things a chance, and current artists are too scared of branching out in case it doesn't resonate with their core audience and they get booted off the mainstream.
It's kind of like how AI is deteriorating because it keeps generating material based off of itself. Music will follow the same path.
music has objectively gotten worse in the 2010s
Early 2010s has some of the most fun music though.
Synths are cooler than shitty guitars.
fun music
Opinion discarded. Something can be "fun" but still absolutely mindless and worthless. Like having sex with your mom
It was getting worse in 2010s, but 2020s is the death knell of music. Zoomers ruined everything, which is a good and bad thing.
this mogs your boring guitars
youtu.be
Zoomers ruined music
And Millenials.
Skrillex
Yep. As mindless as I thought. No meaning for it to be played other than being the role of background music in a college student's party.
Also baitfag
No, millennials made some good music here and there, gen z has made nothing thus far that doesn't constitute as dogshit. Gen X is the last generation to have overtly produced good music.
you may not like it personally but his sound design is objectively good and unique which makes it better than anything else from the 2000s
Gen X is the last generation to have overtly produced good music
We can agree on that.
I think the bad music that Millenials made opened pandora's box for Zoomers to come in and fill the role once Millenials were out the door for being too old.
So no, they didn't make horrible music. But the bad music they DID make contributed to the poptimist movement and the eventual death of rock.
I personally don't like it because this dubstep and EDM shit marked the mainstream-ification of industrial rock.
Are poptimists mostly gays and trannys? I don't get why there would be enough people interested in it to matter
It is so much easier than ever to completely duck out of what is being watched & listened to in the present that I don't even need to stop and ponder such questions anymore.
I would still rather listen to newer music because im just bored of hearing the same old stuff. There is some decent stuff if you find what genres you like, production is a lot more interesting now
proven by picrel
its just some retard who thinks more tools makes worse results
sure buddy
the "but seriously" thingy right below was too much for you to process?
any given moment, any given year, there are always goobers who say THESE DAYS everything is worse and it's basically over, as opposed to THOSE (good old) DAYS who are just defined by them being 5-10 or more years younger BACK THEN
nope, inb4 some zoomer appears to tell us that like netspend and xaiversobased are the voice of his generation or kendrick lamar isnt just lame retread of conscience hip hop
i thought the 2010s were bad when rock died and music got wittled down to pop and pop rap. but the 2020s is just bland, its nothing.
imagine not liking this
