GLP-1 agonists have been around for a while now, and it's been known to suppress appetite and lead to weight loss. It's just that, until recently, it was only approved for use in diabetics (it slows down insulin release so its less of a spike, because it slows gastric emptying). That and it was expensive as fuck. But now that it's approved for weightloss and insurance companies pay for it, everyone is hopping on.

As far as side effects? The main one is stomach cramps, akin to the feeling you get after you overeat. That's kinda how it works, it makes you feel fuller and you'll feel nauseous if you eat your "normal" amount of food. This is also why people need to slowly titrate the dose up over several weeks.

The main issue I see with it is that people who use it most likely won't learn healthy eating habits. Which means as soon as they come off the drug and their "normal" hunger comes back, they'll end up gaining the weight back. Either that or they end up needing to stay on the drug permanently. I'm sure it's possible someone could use it to lose a bunch of weight, come off the drug, and then stay at a healthy weight. But if they had the mindset to do that without ozempic, they most likely wouldn't have gotten fat in the first place.
