Fantano/rym hate

I enjoy music so much more after I stopped watching fantano / theneedledrop and also stopped going on RYM.

I can actually listen to shit I want instead of trying to pretend garbage like TPAB is good.

Literally no one else’s fault but your own

Wow, I can listen to whatever the fuck I want and not care what some pretentious midwit on here or on YouTube has to say about it? Crazy.

You guys don't understand, I've met kids who've said TPAB was the greatest album of all time, and they couldn't even name more than 2 songs off the album.

The fantano effect is real man. I can't say I like Total Xanarchy without a bunch of retarded sheep looking at me like I'm insane or mentally handicapped.

It's all his fault, dude.

Never watched/used either of them, but it's easy to see how RYM in particular poisons all music appreciation and discussion for people who use it. Great decision to stop using it, OP. Never look back. It's utterly irrelevant and unnecessary.

young people are impressionable

Water is wet

never watched a youtube review

so what made you stop?

i remember when he was one of us
i hate getting older and i want to die

I'm a mature adult so I'm able to use RYM to catalogue my albums without having a hissy fit about other people's ratings or reviews

I was trying to listen to music that RYM and fantano said was great, and some of it I liked, but never as much as they said I should.
It's no fun endlessly trying to dig for something that isn't there, and it also isn't fun to actively avoid the music he said I should.

Total Xanarchy is probably the most egregious example for me. I loved Betrayed back when it was big. I was in middle school at the time and I had never heard a song like that before. It was the kind of vibe when you're pulling an all-nighter and are mentally friend, with nothing but the blue artificial light illuminating the room.
So I listened to the album and it was awesome man. Especially the second half of it. It sounded so broken and so atmospheric. I've never been able to find anything that matches it perfectly, and from the song "Basically", all the way to the end of the record is practically perfect. Color Blind is such a powerful closing not too. It's like he's leaving everything old behind and trying something else for once, kind of like "Pushing me away" by Linkin Park

After that, I stopped listening to RYM and fantano and just started going after stuff that I thought looked cool or sounded cool, and I enjoy music so much more

you still seem to be brain damaged by both. hopefully it will get better

One of the biggest reasons why I stopped was because I found out just how disingenuous music criticism is.

-Only 9% of dedicated music fans listen to the actual album. Most just listen to singles or playlists.
and even far less than that listen to the full album In ORDER.

-Most music reviews and takes are published within a day of release. I don't care what album we're talking about, you can't listen to a record and review it in under a day. That's just plain stupid. It takes time to grow on you.

-Most people who make lists of albums have probably heard less than 10% of the full discography that they're rating. In the case of ranking artists, they've probably heard less than 1%.

Sometimes people who give the records a chance genuinely do listen to the whole thing and genuinely do happen to dislike or like it, but most of what you hear online is from people who literally don't know what they're talking about. Like I said, I've met people who said TPAB is the greatest album of all time yet they failed to name more than 2 songs off the record.

music critics are resentful pseuds with english or other retarded humanities degrees who are jealous of musicians mostly. Once you understand this basically all music critic opinions can be predicted with reasonable accuracy. They're literal parasites and a very low form of life.

bald

glasses

don't recommend channel

How else am I supposed to find new music?

Why would you ever do that gay bullshit to begin with?

listening to critics

I will never understand this, I am perfectly capable of hating mostly everything on my own.

Music has literally never been more freely accessible than it is today. Maybe you should try actually listening to music instead of some talking-head onions YouTuber?

That's just the thing. It's so accessible that I can't possibly listen to everything being released. I'll have to separate the wheat from the chaff somehow.

If you can't figure out if you might like something after like 30 seconds you are beyond help

TPAB is alright. It just gets overrated like hell because of the politics in it.

WHAAAAAA HE WAS TALKING TO PAC ALL ALONG KINO KINO KINO IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY BLACK

who mentioned politics? lol

/thread

Holy shit, you can ignore the opinions of wannabe ecelebs and grifters and form your own? What a profound concept.

You sound like a redditor.

I know nothing about this guy. What makes him such an authority on music? Is it because zoomers need someone to tell them what to think?

go back there. Maybe Fantano has his own subreddit you can moderate lul

IT'S LIKE I'M REALLY BLACK

lmao

I said YOU sound like a redditor. Not me.
You go back there!

Similar to RLM, he's fine if you just use him to figure out what's just been released, then take his opinions with a heap of salt

Problem is these days he ignores everything except rap

OP that was your fault you decided to take his word as gospel. Any retard with a half functioning brain realizes that RYM charts and music reviewers only serve as a vehicle to discover new music. That's your fault you forced yourself to like an album someone else did as a desperate means of developing your music taste instead of trying to seek out music yourself.

Me, myself, if I don't like something I'll turn it off and put on something else. Pretty odd concept, huh?

If you want good taste, just listen to what your favorite bands like. They'll always tell you their influences. Then you find more favorite bands, and learn their influences too. It's a big rabbit hole.
That said, you gotta have a favorite artist to begin with. If you started from some shit suggestion by this guy or some other nerd, then you'll only be dragged into hell.

Any retard with a half functioning brain realizes that RYM charts and music reviewers only serve as a vehicle to discover new music

You missed my point, I'm saying that it's a terrible medium for doing this.
I enjoy music more now that I don't use them to discover new music anymore. Re-read my posts

instead of trying to pretend garbage like TPAB is good.

Why did you feel the need to pretend it was good to start with, you retarded faggot?

Because everybody everywhere was insistent that it was the greatest thing ever. I was just trying to talk about music with people and the conversation would always wrap back to TPAB.

It's way easier to pretend like you agree instead of actively disagree and start an argument every time it gets bought up, shoot me for trying to fit in,

RYM is still the best music database but that's it.
Lil Xan is still trash OP, same with almost all hip hop.

Like the usual response always says, rym is a great tool. Just ignore the fag community and follow users that actually explore music you like

See who inspired your favorite artists. Then go from their inspiration to the other bands that they inspired. Boom, just got you like 6 more bands you can listen to.

How is this Fantanos fault though?

I know people are giving you shit for ever believing what this guy says, but these are the same people who believe game reviewers and movie reviewers.

Usually, reviewers like Fantano completely suck. It's impossible to rate every genre fairly as there will always be a personal bias from the reviewer. I'm glad you stopped listening to that crap though and found your own tastes.

Still, reviews are a good place to start from, just make sure to get MULTIPLE reviews and not treat one guy's thoughts as gospel.

I can actually listen to shit I want instead of trying to pretend garbage like TPAB is good.

unironically uses wojaks

I guarantee you haven't heard the tape front-to-back before

I won't waste my time listening to a guy that was just the product of a trend, I know it's trash without listening to it.

I know it's trash without listening to it.

nooooo you don't, man!
C'mon, ignore what fantano and the internet says and give it a try. It might take you by surprise like it did me

I don't watch Fantano neither I pay attention to RYM scores or reviews.
Everyone was there when the "sadboy rap" was a popular thing with the likes of lil peep or xxxtentacion, all of them were trash and lil xan was no excuse.

Kendrick sounds like Fred Flintstones
I dont know what it means either

RYM being invaded by zoomers made me stop using it.

at least on rym they actually listen to new music instead of seething about an album from fucking 2015. holy boomer

Total Xanarchy is garbage tho, you deserve it

RYM makes me hate music
I go to the "top 2025 albums" and I listen to 5 of them and I think "how could anyone listen to this unironically"
pretentious garbage

They're literal parasites and a very low form of life.

That's what I aspire to be in life. Would like a job of getting paid for just writing opinion pieces on music.

why would you even do that if they're not in genres that you like normally?

i stopped watching reviews and using rym when i got into what.cd forever ago, and now red. much better place to discover music with the collages people make
