The lumpen in no way threaten the power of cultured elites, hence why they use the lumpen as a substitute revolutionary subject. Rappers and hip hop producers now get their albums hailed as the greatest ever made, have music theory books written about them with their "music" taught in universities and win loads of awards. Artists who make music that speaks to the values of the proletariat don’t get anything close to those levels of accolades.
Meanwhile China (a socialist nation) bans rap and gets its school children learning real music, namely classical. They don’t get kids to rap or give them MPCs to learn how to “sample” but give them actual instruments. That’s because real socialism isn’t about romanticizing the gutter but about advancing humanity.
I can appreciate this. Although I think America's original charm was a middle class thing, and tried to thread the needle of keeping some of classical alive and mostly uplifting pop and folk traditions at the same time. Not necessarily anything criminal. Just like with movies or literature. Just like politics in general. I think FDR was the biggest needle threader of them all. He wasn't against progressive policies, but put an American spin on it that prevented revolutions like what happened in Russia or something.

I'm simply asking you to explain yourself. When you say classical music's "heyday" was 1700-1900, you're defining it as the period when famous composers were alive. Yet, "heyday" implies a time of peak popularity or influence. Some of these composers are famous only NOW. Bach wasn't famous during his time as a composer and was quickly forgotten until his revival and he is only considered the greatest composer of all time in the modern age (post-revival), way past his death. Something similar applies to Vivaldi, Schubert, Mahler, etc. You clearly didn't think this through or you don't actually know what you're talking about.
