The beach boys' Today! pre-dates the release of Rubber Soul. The beach boys were pretty much already doing pet sounds like stuff on the b-side on today. He was, if anything, inspired to make a cohesive theme, but that's not something the beatles should be credited with since he likely got an American copy of rubber soul with a different track list.
