Nice try. The nature of your claim necessitates for you to be able to analyse music. If you're not doing it from scores then you're just stating an opinion on what you think you hear. If you have no access to a score, you cannot make those claims, yet you keep making them.

Show your work.

you need a score to be able to hear independent voices in music

/shreddit/ accidentally reveals its musical incompetence again.

Bro he doesn't even understand why he's wrong and exposing himself as a brainlet. He can't even buy a clue at this point.

By now you should know that he is literally incapable of admitting he is wrong, ever. No matter how dumb of an argument he is making, he will double down when you call him out on it, thinking it makes himself invincible to mockery. Same thing he did when Jute Gyte publically denounced him or when he accidentally scrobbled an escort website and SFM dogporn.

So pick one of those classical pieces you insist on posting in the metal thread and analyze that.

Forget about the score then. Your claims remain. Back them in any way you see fit, other than "bro just listen to it"

Don't waste your time, just listen to Ulcerate instead

It’s like timeghoul went to school to study music

I got into death metal around the time the pandemic hit stateside. I found the dark, crushing soundscapes a fitting source of catharsis for all the negative feelings associated with cooping yourself up in a small house wondering how many people you know are going to fall ill or die. Plus, it just plain fucking sounded good. Having subsisted most of my life on hip-hop and indie, it was such a relief to fall in love with rhythms, guitar playing, and vocals that were unlike anything I'd ever heard (much less enjoyed) before. And the more I immersed myself within death metal the more awed I was by the sheer creative possibilities the genre offered (Demilich in particular played a major role with this). All that being said, I can't imagine a more apt candidate for my death metal album of the decade (thus far). Pandemic music? I can't fathom a more horrifying, claustrophobic, sickening audio portrait for losing your sanity to. "Plain fucking sounded good?" You could probably remove about half of the guitar and drum work here and this would still be a four star album. "Sheer creative possibilities"? Ad Nauseam fully deliver on every front imaginable in songwriting, production, and musicianship to deliver what might be the most thrilling and cutting-edge take on experimental tech-dissodeath I've heard yet.

you literally looked up "synonyms for harmony" and just found the fanciest sounding word not realizing its archaic and youd sound like a goof using it to anyone that actually knows what theyre talking about

If you're completely unfamiliar with Ad Nauseam, they play a very technical, experimental sort of death metal that puts a lot of emphasis on jagged rhythms and twisted, dissonant harmonies, in the same general ballpark of bands like Gorguts, Deathspell Omega, and Ulcerate. But to my ears this doesn't really sound like any of them. There are elements pulled from each of them: the twisted introspection of Gorguts, the abject horror of DSO, the atmosphere building of Ulcerate. But there are elements present in those bands that aren't here either. Gorguts' introspection focuses on the grotesque nature of human existence (here it comes from a place of, I think, loss of sanity). There is the abyssal terror of an album like Fas, but the melancholic, tragic feel of DSO is completely missing from this album. There are slow, atmosphere-building sections and an emphasis on texture like Ulcerate, but those sections and textures don't really sound like sludge or post-metal. While I think, like most good bands do, Ad Nauseam build on what has come before, I also think they've created something very unique, whether in terms of feeling, sound, or atmosphere.

There are two things about this record I need to emphasize up front. First is that if this isn't the best-produced death metal album I've heard, it's very close. One of my favorite things about 2010s and 2020s extreme metal is how all the creativity out there in terms of songwriting, musicianship, and atmosphere is equally present in terms of production techniques. Some bands sound slick and polished (Ingurgitating Oblivion, Hour of Penance), others are tunneling new paths into the murky abyss of lo-fi (Sepulcher, Krallice, Serpent of The Abyss), others are calculating exactly how fucking metal electronics can sound (Frontierer, Pyrrhon, Plebeian Grandstand). The production on this album is different than any of those. It sounds crip, immersive, and hi-fi, but without any shine or embellishment. The are no tectonic guitars or bullet ricochet snares here, but everything sounds three-dimensional and clear no matter how chaotic the music becomes. It works especially well on this album because the band put a lot of emphasis on textures (moreover, it's not just the riffs the guitars play that sound fantastic, it's the guitars themselves). Listen to how to how the guitars just sound at 1:12 of Inexorably ousted sente; you can almost reach and out touch those tremolo swells. Fuck, even the fucking silence on this record feels more immersive than it ought to be. The other reason the production works so well on this album is my second point, which is that this album has the best-executed guitar polyphony (harmony achieved by interweaving but separate instrumental lines) I have ever heard on an extreme metal album.
(3/12)

which aborted albums are good?

oooo this set him off lmfaoo

That's not to say that the polyphony is the most complex or theoretically advanced or whatever (I am no musician and I listen to a lot of experimental tech death; for all I know there are a dozen tech dissodeath albums I've given three stars that are much harder to play than this album, have more radical approaches to harmony, whatever). But it is to say that it just sounds the best. The lead guitars are usually split in stereo, so one guitar line plays through the right speaker and the other plays through the left. Do other bands do this? I'm sure they must - in fact I put on Ulcerate's Everything Is Fire to check and immediately heard similar techniques - but nowhere near with as much clarity and emphasis as is done here. Because of the crystal-clear production, the listener can identify each separate guitar line with ease. It’s chaos made listenable in a way I’ve never quite heard. The songs constantly sound like they're tearing themselves apart. The left guitar will play what could be pained gasps for air of a drowning victim, while the right guitar plays deranged, schizophrenic howls. I can't do it words. If you enjoy highly abrasive, dissonant music the shit is just fucking crack. Listen to Coincidenta oppositorum, right around the middle of the song when each guitar is ferociously lurching away from each other, literally splitting the ligaments and tendons of the song in half. It's all so exquisite, grotesque, terrifying, and shockingly listenable. I've never really hard another death metal album that feels so much like it was engineered from the ground up with separate-but-equal guitar interplay in mind, and certainly not one that made multi-tracked head-spinning technicality so easy and enjoyable to digest in a way extreme dissonant metal rarely has been for me.
(4/12)

The riffs themselves are some of the best I've ever heard. They're rabid, hideous, terrifying, self destructive things, but have a strangely meditative quality to them. The best way I could put it is that they're cerebral, but almost completely lacking in sanity. The contrapuntal guitar playing emphasizes this quality: the riffs often suggest two or more frenzied, conflicting inner voices warring for supremacy. They're also just heavy as fuck. The guitar tones themselves aren't as innately heavy or filthy as a band like Dead Congregation or Convulsing, but they don't need to be; Ad Nauseam are skilled enough composers that the riffs themselves fuel the heaviness and brutality. I especially love their take on doom metal in Horror vacui; I struggle to think of another band that has used such gnarled, deformed chords to create such crushing doom. But as much as I keep lavishing praise onto the guitar work on this album, I'm not even sure I can honestly claim it's the major source of sheer musical pleasure for me. Because in my heart and soul, I am a lover of rhythm, and this album is grounded in some of the most enthralling drumwork I've ever heard courtesy of resident genius Andrea Stefani.
(5/12)

Best part of arguing with /shreddit/ is that at some point they WILL enviably prove I'm right with (zero) proding from myself.
Its literally just 2ez, really I mean it, I do nothing and win.

First of all the drums are just as well-produced as the guitars. You can hear every nuance of every blast beat, every polyrhythm, every jarring meter change. As with the guitars, the drums themselves aren't necessarily the heaviest sounding out there, but they don't need to be: again, the heaviness and brutality stems from the deranged ferocity of Stefani's playing. What's really remarkable about it is how the drums strive to dominate and control the direction and flow of the music (often succeeding) to the same extent each guitar does. Remember all that stuff I said about how the guitars are weave in and out with each other? Well, that was only a half truth because there are a lot of moments in this album where I think the guitars are actually subservient to the drums, and for that matter where the riffs are subservient to the rhythms. The drum pattern at 2:38 on Sub specie aternitatis sounds like it could be a fucking rehearsal mistake, but the whole band commits to the pattern. It’s a shocking, beautiful rhythm, and there are countless moments like that on every song. This album in general is one of the strongest rhythmic powerhouses I cam think of. On The Corner? Velocity Design Comfort? Nespithe? This album is right there. My favorite thing about the drums is how surprising and unpredictable they are. There is arrhythmic chaos, staggeringly creative blast beats, and surreal patterns which would sound like endless mistakes if heard behind a thick wall, but every transition, every drum fill, every time signature change sounds perfectly logical, if too mangled and disfigured to be called natural. It's a gnarled, disfigured, scarred sort of beauty, and it's one of the main reasons every listen sounds like a first spin.
(6/12)

im not even being mean it just sounds like that guy in school that says shit like "mlady" and "forsooth" to sound cultured

I’ve lavished heaps of praised on the guitar and drum work on this album, but the vocals and bass are well worth mentioning as well. The bass playing is fantastic, but I think it could be mixed more prominently. [2024 edit - i don't really feel this way anymore, the bass mixing is superb] Bands like Exlimitir, Pyrrhon, and Oksennus have raised the bar for how bass playing should be produced in death metal albums and I think the bass production here is just about the only area where I feel the music gets a little short-shafted. Again, that's not a knock on the playing at all, but the aforementioned bands have done a lot to prove that bass guitar can be mixed right at the forefront without any sacrifices to the rest of the instruments, so it feels like a bit of a missed opportunity that Matteo Bernadelle's playing is often overpowered by the rest of the band. As for the vocals, I actually think they're one of the biggest steps up from the debut. Nihil quam vacuitas ordinatum est is a phenomenal record, but there were moments and elements I felt sounded too...didactic? Intellectual? It was dissonant and grotesque, no doubt, and far better-composed than most tech death, but I often felt like the band sounded too in control of the music being played. That's not the case here; the best way I can describe the difference between Nihil quam vacuitas and Imperative Imperceptible Impulse is that the songs sound like the members were infected with rabies and forced to compose/perform as their sanity slipped away. This applies to the vocals. On the first record, they sounded fine but didn’t really stand out, either. Here Andrea Petucco's singing provides some of the darkest, most unforgettable all-star moments on the album.

Ultra is superior ;)

Correct.

Wtf?

One is around 5:02 of Coincidenta Oppositorum when his murmured growls gradually mutate into a tortured howl. At 3:54 on the title track (my favorite moment on the entire album), he lets the instruments build and build to a brief moment of silence, which he breaks with a truly schizophrenic roar of "every breath I inhale is FIIIIIIIIIIIRE!" I could almost believe him. He has a much better sense of timing and delivery this time around, and his singing is more dynamic; not only does he seem to employ a wider array of singing techniques this this around (I love his shrieks and ritualistic croaks), the vocals are equally captivating during the slower, atmospheric stretches as they are when the songs sound like they're about to self-destruct. This is important because not only do I think this is a more ferocious effort than the debut, but I think the slower, atmosphere-building sections are much more gripping than the debut, as well. In fact, with this album I think Ad Nauseam have taken a leap forward from one of the most interesting bands in the realm of tech death to holding the throne of best songwriters in extreme metal.
