They were completely insane and so were Black Curse. No one complained when both played less than 45 minutes because of how intense both their sets were. Best 10€ I have ever spent.

I think Dying Fetus are boring as fuck. I know I sound contrarian because of how popular they are, but I'm being honest. I have tried repeatedly to get into them but I struggle to, they're so dull.
They're like a stereotype of death metal, all of their songs are aimless riff salads that don't go anywhere. And their attempts at sounding 'technical' are just total shit, they just go from chugging riffs to these random scale runs/tapping and back. They encapsulate the laziest kind of metal songwriting. Their 'hardcore'-ness probably puts me off as well.
I don't mind the song 'Grotesque Impalement', they have some alright songs but I could never sit through an entire album.
People hate on the 'nu-OSDM' because they sound like hardcore bands trying to sound death metal. But to me Dying Fetus have already been doing that for ages, and they're just as shit

I love Dying Fetus, brutal/techdeath is what I even think of when I think "Death Metal" OSDM sounds almost quaint by comparison but I can like some of it too.
So they got their start in grindcore, so did Carcass.
Jeff Walker says that most of what we know as grindcore is just badly played Death Metal (not a direct quotation). A band matures and learns to play their instruments and they stop doing grindcore.
