/gg/ Guitar and Base Player general

I thought I could get away with learning some scale patterns but I found out I only accidentally broke the ice on a chasm and I feel like that one girl from made in abyss moments before she got eviscerated and stuffed into a suitcase.

learned 3 songs by ear that ive listened to for years in a bout 30 minutes

no need to learn when things change because songs are already beaten into my brain

really good night. kinda upset i couldnt get anything going on guitar though. i wanna at least be able to play a scale before tuesday

drink some water, anon

You're learning. Sucking is part of the process.

Nvm I kinda got it

Whoa

You think you are clever with your little catchphrases? You don't even play guitar, yet for the past 10 years you haven't left. It makes me sad thinking about it. It would truly be a psychiatrists life work to study this creature. Anyways off to my weekly gig at the downtown club.

Cool your jets my guy. I'm not sure who you think I am.

Look

Anybody ever use finger picks? When I was in middle school I would wear them to class so people thought I played guitar (I didn't at the time). The administrators made me stop wearing them because they thought I would use them to scratch people. I would sit alone at lunch and read guitar world and act like I was practicing fingerings. Eventually my boyfriend bought me a real guitar for my 30th birthday, and I haven't looked back sense.

NTA I'm you in the future. You buy all the Marshalls.

What's the point of this?

sucking off guys behind the dumpster isn't a gig

Wait until you find out that F lydian is identical to A aeolian ;)

more proof that whoever invented musical notation is a fucking mouth breathing moron, its so full of redundancy and ambiguity its a wonder why we still use it

Ate a banana, ready to shred

Watch this

buddy im not just gonna watch im gonna participate

Yeah? Fine by me. Just don't get scared when I switch to 5/4 time.

Baste

this guy thinks i can't play out of 4/4
voca.ro/1lBiJxPLMFzE

how did i know it was gonna be this diaper shit before i even clicked it

Videos on playing muted strings? I'm having trouble

feels good to not be a faggot like most of you

yeah you've ascended, you're a super duper mega faggot.
All hail king of the faggots.

...
I've
been denied
all the best
ultra sex

I'll never be as good as Mick Ronson or Jimmy Paige, what's even the point.

2000s were a mistake

pretty sure the guy who wrote that song drank his own pee pee

Anything over 20 is diaper shit bro

lads what are the best guitar scales to learn?
So far I have
A minor pent/A blues
A aeolian
F lydian

I hear good things about mixolydian but these hardly seem different outside of locrian

Sounds like Joanna Newsom

Like, it's all contextual, man.

What synth you using

I feel like this would make for a magical evening if heard live.

Wait till you learn that every scale is just the major scale with different starting points

so far I have 3 scales

thats more than most guitarists ever learn tbdesu

I couldn't imagine the joy of hearing this live at a GC (gasstation checkout)

Good resources on playing up strums?

Learning the major scale in all 12 keys is a good one. Start with C major. Look into the circle of fifths. It's a very helpful tool for your scales/keys.

me im the good resource just ask

Over The Hills and far away by Led Zeppelin

Ok. How do I play an up-strum without it sounding so coarse

It's fun to abuse harmonic minor

If you can pivot between a major and minor mode you're beyond most.

Gotta flick the wrist a lil, remember ur fightin gravity not workin with it so you need that extra little bit

The more theory you learn the more soulless your music becomes

also you gotta change the picking angle slightly if you have the same angle as a down strum it will sound weird

for some people music is art, for others its math. its both kind of gay

Then how else can you create music, starting from scratch? I feel like you need to know a little theory, or at least why your favorite do what they do in their songs.

It is a Casio digital keyboard. Don't remember the model off hand. It was cheap but it's light and has 61 keys. I like cheap digital keyboards because you can plug them into a guitar pedal board and make great analog sounds. I have always liked the electric piano/flute/clavichord patches. They seem to respond well to guitar effects. And with a volume pedal, distortion, and modulation, you can make it sound like anything.

not an HH key

guitar is stupid and gay

Does this also pertain to the circle of fifths?

the current epiphone sg special is horrible. at least you used to get a rosewood fretboard and gloss finishes. now you get pale caca colored not rosewood and thin chalky satin finishes.

they did the same thing with the Les Paul special II.

the only bad thing on the old ones was the tuners.

Redpill me on the Trad Pro V.

and that's a good thing!

Actually sovlful. Mountain haters gunna be real quiet this weekend.

I got sissy hypno'd watching a bunch of LP burst reviews on youtube and leapt and picked up an edwards LP copy. Seething because the seller listed one in a nitro finish a week after I bought mine but the one I got still rips so I'm not too mad considering it was 1/6th the price of a real LP.
The thing has a hard time staying in tune, do I need to lube the bone nut?

Kirk recorded Metallicas best albums using fernandes and Tom anderson strats.

call ICE.jpg - 468x750, 264.19K

kirks lead tone has always sucked. when people think of metallica they think of James' awesome rhythm tone which came from a Gibson.

LTD EC-10

these have little effect on the sound of the guitar. if your guitar sounds like shit (bad wood like poplar, basswood etc) even a Gibson PAF (best pickup) wouldn't change that
do yourself a favor and shop smart. Save a little more money and buy a real guitar from a guitar brand, not a Chinese sweatshop

body wood has no effect on tone.

basswood and ash are in fenders

Pickups make some difference. It can be quite a bit with a more transparent amp.

I'll give YOU wood for YOUR body

I fw bucker, vader, single sz bucker lookin hot, rails aint good to me but I take her back, minis on god, 90s ok, actives is guitar BBL, all that tron shi is jangle so aight

Basswood isn't bad. It's just soft. If you're prone to take off the backplate a lot or something, it'll wear down.

Poplar is 20% harder. Goes to show how many fucks these companies give. They'd go back to resonwood if it wasn't pure crap.

iirc the new dan electros are still made with masonite particle board
but
they have the new old-stock lipstick blades mmmf

Funnily, Fender America actually used poplar for awhile. These were kind of the "dark days" during the 80s, but they got their shit together when Fender Japan was kicking their ass.

my mij squier strat is basswood

Or take off the neck to adjust the trussrod.

itt: people with bASSwood guitars coping

I KNOW THE PIECES FIT BECAUSE I

Spent half the day cleaning, googling and diagnosing why my acoustic amp now makes a humming sound with everything plugged in, I didn't think to try another guitar or amp first, turns out the acoustic guitar isn't grounded properly.

erf.jpg - 640x538, 97.72K

imo mahogany > alder > ash

Seething

Not a good sign. As your online consultant I advise you to put the poly one up for sale and buy the one you really want.

Further to my point I also advise you to buy the nitro one and try both out side-by-side, so you don't get double burnt and get a lemon.

most MIJ fenders are basswood, even now. the vintage reissues are basswood

most MIJ export model fenders are basswood

ftfy.

all MIJ fenders are export models

He sold one of those Tom Andersons a couple years back. Cool guitars.

Wood absolutely does affect tone. It is mechanically impossible for the material that a vibrating string is attached to to not affect the way it vibrates in some way
Electrical components still matter way more, and your fingers matter the most

Let's talk hand care. What's your regimen?
Skin care?
Stretches?
Nails?
Do you protect your hands?
There are stories of Lenny Breau walking down the icy streets of Edmonton and slipping and falling flat on his face, because he didn't want to risk his hands breaking his fall. Where are you with this mentality?

Do you not know about the Heritage series or are you taking the piss?

PTSG.jpg - 499x750, 65.43K

Ok sure you wanna get into the nitty gritty that doesn't matter in the grand scheme? You are way too close to the trees to see the forest my man if you are considering this.
Here we go.
1. Ambient temperature, its true, sound waves travel differently depending on the temperature of the room.
2. Humidity, again, its true, water in the air affects the vibrations in the air.
3. Your mood, its true, how you are feeling at the time dramatically shifts your perception of your tone.
4. What part of your finger you use to fret, more meat = different timbre, you can test this yourself.
5. What you use to pick with, again you can test this easily in 3 seconds if you have a guitar.
6. How far you are from the speaker/room construction. An amp outside sounds tiny unless its huuuuge.
7. How hard you pick/fret
8. How old your strings are/ string material.

All of these things affect tone, none of them make any difference in any songs you will play and definitely not at all if you use ANY distortion what so ever.

None I wash my hands with dish soap.
I bite my nails and then peel them to trim them.

Do you leave your callouses alone? File them? Tenderize them? Harden them with needles?

Never touched em, eventually the skin just gets thicker without getting that white dead look and before you know it it feels like you are wearing gloves on your finger tips. The skin on my fretting fingers is significantly thicker but I've lost a great deal of light touch sensitivity.
Used to get blisters and white hard dead calluses when I started

my dick is callused

That's my experience, too, Anon. They used to peel off but now they're like gloves on my fingertips.

my butt is fartin

PRS on blowout everywhere.
No one wants them.

For me it's the circle of minor seconds

See what I mean?

This one is perfection.

PRSStarla.png - 96x143, 15.33K

gibson tries to modernize

boomers seethe

many such cases

original.jpg - 682x1023, 212.74K

is made in japan

sold in other countries

export model

it's a bit small

if the pickguard was less gay and the pickup wasn't slanted that would be sick

its because some of them use the god damn gibson bridge, anon
or, most of them, anyways, thats why you see a minimum of 3 degree angle. some are even 5 degrees, have not seen any 10 degree angle ones but im sure they exist.

Does it matter if an edwards was used by a REAL power metal band??

I agree with you entirely, my favorite sounding guitar of mine is a shitty partscaster made from a cheap aftermarket neck slapped onto squier body made of mystery wood
I just like being pedantic sometimes
