yeah. pop. exactly.
3 minute long ditties for 13 year old girls.

Strawberry Fields Forever is 4 min

King of Pop: Elvis Presley
King of Rock: Chuck Berry

he needed paul, paul didn't need him

Elvis Presley wasn’t a songwriter. He had a great voice and was a great performer but that’s it. And he wasn’t even the greatest performer of Pop music because Michael Jackson existed.

Michael Jackson isn't even close to being the greatest performer of Pop.

he needed paul

He kept releasing great music even after Beatles’ breakup

paul didn't need him

The lyrics [of I Saw Her Standing There] were written in a Liverpool Institute exercise book. Remember: The Recollections and Photographs of the Beatles, a book by McCartney's brother Mike McCartney, includes a photograph taken in the front room of his home of Lennon and McCartney writing the song while strumming their acoustic guitars and reading the exercise book. It typified how Lennon and McCartney would later work in partnership, as McCartney subsequently reflected: "I had 'She was just seventeen,' and then 'never been a beauty queen'. When I showed it to John, he screamed with laughter, and said 'You're joking about that line, aren't you?'"[1] According to McCartney, "We came up with, 'You know what I mean.' Which was good, because you don't know what I mean."

Paul needed John’s edge. Otherwise he would be writing corny granny shit forever.

I'm gonna repeat a post I read earlier because I can't say it any better:
I appreciate what Chuck Berry did for rock, but once you've heard one song you've heard them all. He really only wrote one song and then rerecorded it with slightly different lyrics his whole career.

they needed each other really. John took himself way too seriously and Paul liked writing nursery rhymes about bells and firetrucks and the queen. neither of them did well apart but Paul did far better.

in other words, he's the most consistent performer of all time.

Lol

That would be Burt Bacharach.

Elvis sang live. Michael lip synced. Elvis sang with his genuine voice and gave heartfelt performances. Michael put on a fake voice inspired by Stevie Wonder and was a complete gimmick. Everything about Michael was 100% fraudulent. Not a real artist or singer at all, just a glorified dancer. To even begin to compare their talent is really just an insult to Presley.

and even his overrated dance moves he stole from Bob Fosse. nothing about Jackson was original at all. just a total ripoff.

Everything about Michael was 100% fraudulent.

he was SOULFUL

he really wasn't though. all he did was squeal, grab his crotch and walk backwards. and lip sync. big deal.
Elvis was the definition of soul. Better voice, better singing, better technique. there's no contest between the two.

At least MJ wrote his own songs ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Not an argument. He was still 100% a better performer than Elvis.
Also,

speaking about authenticity when defending Presley

Don’t make me laugh dude.

Lennon>McCartney>Wilson>Morrissey>>>everyone else

based but Roger Waters is better than Morrisey

MJ was one of the worst performers. if you ever watched him, you'd know this.
his Super Bowl performance was atrocious.
his big famous live moment is just standing inert and not doing anything for several agonizing minutes while the crowd waits patiently for him to finally move. that's fucking boring.
you can't call him better than ANYONE, let alone Elvis.

Roger ruined Syd’s band

I'm no conspiracy theorist but there's a lot of MJ hate here in the last few years since Mossad agents started posting here...

If anyone irl told me Elvis was a better performer than MJ I would laugh my guts out of my ass.

is all of MJ's fandom on Anon Babble exclusively tied to antisemitism?
is there anyone who actually likes his music and isn't a nazi? because i've yet to see that here. it's always let's promote MJ because he hated Jews.

of course if Elvis recorded anti-jewish songs you'd be quickly singing a different tune along with the rest of the board.

Show us your music chart

and what exactly is wrong with any of that?

If we're talking about the volume of great songs, it has to be Bowie

thinking Michael Jackson was a better performer than Elvis

Good Lord

songwriter cope

Songwriters should be groveling at his feet thanking him for elevating their shit to a completely different level

one of the best voices of all time

charisma that's unmatched

knows karate

man of God

won't be burning in hell for all eternity

Piss off

just in terms of writing only
1. Chuck Berry
2. Bob Dylan
3. David Bowie
4. John Fogerty
5. Bruce Springsteen
6. Neil Young
7. Leonard Cohen
8. McCartney and Lennon (a slight edge to Paul imo)
9. Jagger and Richards

if you want it more pop friendly, take out Young and Cohen and add Barry Gibb and Phil Collins.

Jesus Christ. This list sucks.

Bruce Springsteen

above Lennon/McCartney

One of the things no one has ever said

Springstein tongues my anus. And Berry wrote the same song over and over again

more longevity and imo arguably more great songs
also i lowered lennon/mccartney for being a duo. they are not as great on their own. bruce springsteen wrote his songs solo.
i don't see your list. i don't think any of them suck, they've all written a lot of great songs. i could've added Taylor Swift.

springsteen sucks fat cocks dude. only Americans gives a shit about him.

was he writing ROCK songs though?

this Canadian gives a shit about Springsteen but you're entitled to your opinion.

reminder he lifted Come Together from the genius Chuck Berry's superior You Can't Catch Me

Nobody gives a shit about Chuck Berry

i actually value his singing over his writing. but he was pretty great at both

the Rolling Stones, the Beach Boys, the Beatles and Bob Dylan (and anyone who descended from those artists) would disagree. he was basically a one man Rolling Stones. he did everything there was to do in music.

there's no great artist that you can't draw a direct line back to Chuck Berry from. no exceptions. every major artist of the last 70 years owes a debt to Chuck Berry.

one man Rolling Stones

This isn't a good thing

you don't care for rock and roll, i guess.

Too bad he fucking sucks

Agreed, his voice is very moving.

If you tried to give rock and roll another name, you might call it 'Chuck Berry'.

- John Lennon
